    Well, in my opinion: A good competitor also needs the skill to know how to cut off other competitors. We do so in carpfishing tournaments. Cut your neighbour off, casting further than he can. Requires skill and knowledge. No problem with that. Part of the game!

    You are a great fisherman. I enjoy you’re content. However, I would have rather seen a video that said, “I was wrong” instead of “here’s my perspective.” It’s never cool to cut someone off on the water no matter what the perspective is. Still hope everything goes well with ya. Also, props to you for this not being something you’re “known” for. One incident doesn’t define your reputation in fishing.

      I get both sides. But honestly what professional angler has never cut off another angler, or been cut off by another angler
      I mean it’s not like this is a regular thing for Wheeler. And there’s been more tournaments with people pulling up on Wheeler this year than there has the other way around

      That’s pretty poor sportsmanship. If you are that good you will find the fish regardless. The lake is public navigable waters and you’re acting like it’s your spot. Put a pretty poor and you chose poorly and are trying to justify your position now. You didn’t need to play defense you already was in the cut. Also you stated that’s the way it’s always been in bass fishing. That’s incorrect in the 80s etc you didn’t have livescope and ffs…..now you can see more underwater, which in my opinion isn’t fishing. Also, furthermore in back in the times you are touting about another competitor would have taken you out behind the woodshed. There was way more respect back then now it’s just childish games and how much money can you spend on boat electronics.

    I don't know how much things have changed since I quit tourmament fishing, but the rule was when I was fishing was you could not cut into within 50yds of someone anchored while fishing. If it was 100 yds away, no issue, even fishing the same bank. I've fished events that the majority of fisherman were within a 1/4 mile of each because it was the most consistent place to catch bass. Guys relax and let the men fish!!

    I don't think that many understand how far you guys travel, how much time you spend under the sun, and how stressful winning must be when your sans family. What some do not understand is how you still came to the event post trailering, and took a fifth of your travel time home to speak with fans. Most other professional anglers bolted after they lost. You stuck around, made the sport better, and fans happier. Congratulations angler of the sport 2024, and beyond!

Just because you can should you?It cost Jacob angler of the year and Becker won angler of the year because of that fish. It also cost others money because it knock others down a place in the standing. Jacob could have gotten mad about that but chose not to. I've seen both sides now, and I appreciate the honesty, but to do it again, go to the other competitor first and ask if it's ok to slide in front of them that close. Sometimes we assume other competitors are seeing us when catching in prefishing, but much of that is usually limited unless they're very close in proximity. I give folks about a 1/4 mile, less than that I communicate with them first. Your the best in the game right now, keep it up!👊

      I see your point and I agree with you on no cutting. But !! Here's my thoughts.
      They both knew fish were in that one small depression right?? Matt couldn't figure out the bait or technique JW was using. They both knew there wasn't any fish down the grass line . They were in two specific spots. So Matt is running the grass line where he knows they aren't .. why?? Because he left the door open for JW to come in so he could see what he was using to get those big ones to bite. So I think he played JW.. like I said it wasn't about the fish. They both knew exactly where they were and weren't.. It was about how to get the big bite..

    Jacob no doubt you are a great fisherman, arguably the best of the day. We can debate this issue back n forth till the cows come home. Optically what you did looks bad, plain and simple! 100% it's a competition, however that spot, is NOT your spot if you're NOT on it, those fish are NOT your fish until you catch them and put them in the boat! Tournament Fishing be it justified or not is getting a lot of bad press. I would hope you with the platform and voice you command in this Industry would want to step forward and go out of their way to try and do the right thing for your brand, the sheild you wear, that its most definitely under the microscope of the Internet fishing world and the Fishing Industry as a whole. If you truly feel how all this went down, the look you received from it and you're copacetic with it, more power to you, but you've lost me as a follower.

    If it was me pulling in an area where another angler is fishing, I’d idle up to him and say hey, I found these same fish, been in here two days, whatever, and ask how we can work it out where we can both fish our stuff and not get in each others’ way. Seems like the tension and negative stuff always happens when the second guy just heads in with the trolling motor down and does his thing. I always try and get the lay of the land and talk to the other boat if I pull in to an area. Just my perspective. Especially when you’re fishing against the same guys all the time. You have to learn to work together to an extent.
    Not at all judging Jacob. Just seems better to talk it out on the front end. Similar situation with Adrian and Neal at RedCrest. The long distance boat to boat conversations never seem to go well.

      Bud you obviously didn’t hear what he just said, Becker caught 0 fish on this spot so why even bother asking for permission! Also Becker was trying to figure out what wheeler was catching them on! 😂

    • @nedyarb2000
      @nedyarb2000 8 дней назад

      But with live scoring these anglers know if/how/where they are catching them. JW saw Becker fish that spot and not catch anything. Then Becker saw JW on that spot catching numbers. JW was protecting his spot that Becker saw him on.

    • @along44ride
      @along44ride 5 дней назад

      @@nedyarb2000 Thats JW's ploy... Becker confronted JW and asked him to come look at the weigh points on his electronics. It desnt matter if Becker used FFS , a Bird on the Bank or saw a guy catching fish there. JW doesn't own the fish or the river. There are now rulles on distance in the MLF rule book. They just cant entangle fishing lines. By the MLF rules Becker could have parked right in front of JW and continued to fish. This also means if you have a favorite pro angler and someone like JW is leading in the points, you as a spectator can " Block and protect the fish from being caught by the pro you dont want to win. If MLF do something about this rule, guys are going to group up like NASCAR and bicycle racking and they will help the lead team member by blocking the guy that they are trying to beat. There is going to have to be some rule change or other guys are going to start using the lack of rules to their advantage like JW just did

    Agree with you 100%! With increased pressure on all bodies of water, if you put in your time and find spots you fish them. If Matt actually knew that spot he had the ability to go straight there and fish. He chose to run the grass line 200+ yards away.

    I don't understand why the rules won't allow two anglers having a dispute to peacefully work it out by themselves.
    To be fishing at the top level, there's a level of respect and professionalism that must be followed. We don't want GOVT in our lives telling us how to live and there shouldn't have to be a ton of oversight in this sport either.
    I realize this is very competitive but, when two anglers need to get on the phone and talk about a certain area where a problem occurred between them. Well let them work it out and keep the peace. It's good to have a higher authority to call if needed.. But all in all it's between them.

    I didn't know any of this, but what you said about social media. That is what I see and have seen for years. I've had that done to me and saw where people dogging " what i knew was thrown at me and didn't even know why." I fish for the fun and compete for the same reasons. I really can't stand the bandwagoners that jump on the post and didn't even fish that. You don't need to explain it. This world is full of opinionated people, and they are being selfish, submitting their comments without knowing the truth. I see it more. Thanks for sharing, bud.

    At least you worked it out with Matt. I’m not a tournament angler, but home lake is Lake Champlain and I’m fortunate enough to live here and know some spots that took years to find and I’m a weekend angler. Every time a tournament is here you guys find stuff quicker than flies land on sh@t lol and I always give leeway given it’s a tournament. I watched it and you seemed plenty far and seemed to protect your spot. I’ve seen others do it and it’s a different story with a tournament on the line. Other opinions of losing respect I can respect as it’s an opinion….in my eyes you and Matt discussed it….it’s done. But social media…..meh…no worries. Tight lines

    Man here’s my take on it …. Anyone that’s not in the field competing against you shouldn’t speak on it in the first place. Your peers opinions are the only ones that should carry any weight at all. Bc they are the only ppl that can relate and fully understand hate transpired. Social media keyboard warriors should just enjoy the content ( or not ) period. Nothing else. But this is the day and age of the most inconsequential ppl having a voice and a say in matters that they have zero knowledge of and that is totally in no way their business. Social media is destroying the world imo. We should revert back to the days where a man has to think about the consequences of his actions and words before he speaks or does things. Bc if these ppl knew that they’d have to be ready to fight if they pissed someone off; I bet 99% of the keyboard warriors would fade into the crowd instantly and not say a word ok things that don’t concern them. But now days these folks can say the foulest shit anout someone simply bc they’re bored and they know they don’t have to face any possible consequences over what they say. I’m ready to go off grid and start my own tribe or some shit just to get away from this horrible world of ours.

    I watched the video clip and have seen a bunch of the social media comments and stuff. Personally, I have no problem with what you did. It wasn’t a violation of any rules. You made a good point in this video, this is competitive bass fishing at its highest level and not only that, but it’s how you make your living, so naturally you’re gonna compete to the best of your ability. I’m glad you posted this video so that your side of the story could be heard.

    Thanks for addressing, although imo there was no need. I like Matt and you are my favorite by far. I personally agree with what you did. U have to be a savage to stay at the top of the game. Matt missed the juice within the juice and why wouldn’t you protect that when given the chance? It’s all good JW! It’s lonely at the top. U have people that will literally throw shade and use any and every avenue available to them and in some cases even clean out the “bilge” and create their own avenue. Last I checked, it hasn’t affected your and your crews bank account and the bell continues to ding even if you guys chose to let it speak for itself these days . Keep up the grind!

    Here is how it is in competitive bass fishing as far as I m concerned. When the boat touches the water on tournament morning until the weigh in. There are no friends it's every man for his self. If you try to be friends out there you'll got home checkless. Wheeler you didn't do anything wrong you just played the game the same way Matt would have if he were in your position. Good job J Wheels.

    I read the MLF rules today and there is no rule about cutting someone off or how close they can be to another boat. " As long as they don't impede or snag the other Fishermans line. In other words, Matt could have tied up to your boat and fished right beside you. What the rules constantly talk about is being " Professional " and Non-Confrontational or verbally confrontational. I guess it would be considered defense if another angler were to find you fishing some place and parked their boat in front of your boat and blocked you, since there is no rule in MLF as to distance as long as it's wrapped in the words " blocking " and they have no verbal communications with you, that way it could never be considered as confrontational. If you blow up on them for blocking you, then that is a rule violation. If we thought FSA changed the sport, pandori's box has just been opened on the new game of defensive blocking with no rules on the distance. Let the new games begin

    It seems like tournament strategy. Was it legal in the tournament? I recall Herren and Tharp had a similar affair? I also recall Tak rolling in during the GT World Championship in 2019...He's definitely old school and he wasn't alone! I don't think "cutting off" ever came to mind. Based on the intensity of this tournament, I would believe that anyone fishing for $100k, who had the winning fish located, would NOT give up that spot. Also, the "Bent Pole Pattern" has been around in MLF / Score tracker. It's part of that format! If Becker knew JW was lighting up the tracker on that bank (which he had to of) then perhaps he should have rolled over to JW and ask if he could run that bank too? I didn't pick up malice from either...just intensity.
