  • This tutorial will help the viewers to get preliminary knowledge about single moving reference frame (SMRF) problems.
    In this tutorial, we have analysed only 2 cases,
    Analysis 1: Outer domain rotation with respect to the absolute reference frame.
    Analysis 2: outer domain rotation is with respect to the inner domain reference frame.
    Single moving reference frame problems are steady-state analysis where the entire domain is considered as moving reference frame.

    Hey, Thanks for the video.
    Initially, you set the wall-inner-domain motion with respect to absolute and RPM of 50.
    later on, you changed its motion to 'with respect to Adjacent domain ( which is inner_domain)', but kept the speed Same as 50Rpm, I guess it should be changed to 0Rpm, otherwise the Inner wall will be moving on 100rpm.

      @AnsysTutor  4 года назад +1

      As the outer cellzone is already fixed so, both absolute and relative to adjacent cell zone will behave as the same in this case. Making the velocity of the inner wall to zero will stop the rotation.

      @@AnsysTutor so why in the second case where the outer cell zone was not fixed, you didn't change the setting of inner wall ?

    Hi, @16:11 your inner domain wall was set to relative to adjacent cell zone (inner domain) by an angular velocity of 50RPM. this should have been 0 since the inner domain is already rotating, you were correct the first time, not sure why you decided to change. anyway this is not going to alter the results at all because the wall has negligible "tangential" effect on the flow.

    • @AnsysTutor
      @AnsysTutor  2 года назад +1

      Yes, both option have the same effect.

    The two bodys was not formed as a part, and there is no contact interface set in Fluent. I think these two domains actually are not connected in fluid at all.

    To do SRF, the appropriate body forces should be included to account for the non-inertial characteristics of the rotating reference frame. How did ANSYS apply that or is the outer cell zone autonomically included when doing frame motion in outer domain?

    Hi, why is outer BC set to moving wall, rotating with zero rpm and not simply stationary wall. 2nd, why is there an animation recording if this is a steady solution, there is no movement to see - correct? Thanks for the tutorial, great channel.

    • @AnsysTutor
      @AnsysTutor  5 лет назад

      setting it as moving wall with zero rpm means its fixed , if you will not assign it , the outer will also rotate. the rotational speed is constant, so it can be taken as steady state analysis.

      @punkisinthedetails1470 5 лет назад +2

      @@AnsysTutor Thanks for clarifying. But surely you can assign it as stationary (the radio button above rotating option)? The absolute and relative options still confuse me in general. Do you have a link to tutorials that explain or illustrate the difference and when to use (or not) Many tha ks again

    Hello, very nice tutorial!
    I need to simulate the 3D flow over a rotating sphere. I think that this method could be adapted for this case.
    I was thinking about creating a cylinder and put the sphere in it to use this method.
    Do you think this could be a good approach?
    Thank you in advance!

      Yes , this method can be used.

    Hi. Thanks for your video. In your first analysis, the velocity of outer domain is zero. Is this because the absolute velocity of outer domain is zero?

    • @vivekjk6729
      @vivekjk6729 2 года назад

      Yea i think so. if thats the case, then might as well keep the inner fluid domain stationary right?

  • @vivekjk6729
    @vivekjk6729 2 года назад

    so the case 2 is more practical right? as we want to see the effect of rotating inner domain on the stationary outer domain.

    Can we combine 2 bodies to be one part and do SRF? Will it be the same?

    • @chadakarnsirasitthichoke9359
      @chadakarnsirasitthichoke9359 4 года назад

      In the case of a mixing tank, if SRF is preferred, two bodies should form a new part as a shared topology (conformal mesh); otherwise, it will have a mesh interface that appeared in Fluent. Is that right?

    • @AnsysTutor
      @AnsysTutor  4 года назад

      You can do boolean to make it one body.

    Dear ANSYS tutor;
    Currently, we would like to set a reference frame velocity BUT we don't want to set a constant velocity, we need to update the velocity by a VALUE calculated through an User Define Function (UDF), which is converging during the simulation.
    Do you know how to modify the reference frame velocity so I can use variable/changing velocity that is in my UDF?
    Thanks.

    I have done geometry and meshing part but i don't know about setup part(how to give velocity, rotation).so i need your help.

      if your working on savonius, it is not the wings wich give the movement but the wind/water, you should try 4 farfields walls
