  • America is in the midst of long overdue changes around gender and power as it re-examines ideas about masculinity. But too often the conversation focuses on what men shouldn’t be, rather than what they should be. Jordan Klepper looks at Andrew Tate and breaks down how a void of role models has harmful consequences for young boys.

Keanu has had a hard life and it has given him a lot of humility. He and his wife had a stillborn child and it devastated them. Then his wife died in a car accident. The opening 10 min in the first John wick movie where his wife left him a puppy literally happened to him in real life so that scene hit close to home for him. He split his money he made for the matrix films with the entire production crew and even wire transferred money to a makeup artist in the crew before that so she wouldn't get evicted; she wouldn't get paid on time during production and was going to become homeless. He stayed with a homeless man for a few hours on the street and gave him money for food. The man is a saint.

Thank you for this segment. I'm a martial arts instructor and I teach young boys and men. I agree there is a crisis of masculinity but people like Andrew Tate are making it much worse. Yes men are aggressive and aggression shouldn't be a thing to be feared but the message that aggression is only for getting more money, more cars, more fame, and more women. Is dangerous and shallow. Both that it breeds misogyny but also that when many men are unable to get the cars, fame, money and women they become even more disollusioned and angry. That is where we see so many young men descending into incel culture and engaging in destructive behavior. The aggression and strength isn't about getting what you want but also about protecting your family and community. About improving yourself to be a better person who is admired than just satisfying your base desires. People like Andrew Tate like to talk about being either wolf or a sheep but you can also be a sheep dog. Someone who is strong and uses that strength to help and protect others.

I couldn't agree more. Like I don't remember Bruce Lee ever being called out for misogyny (maybe Im wrong), but with few exceptions (like Segal who I dont think was ever a real black belt in anything but pie eating contests), more should be in dojos learning effective ways to let out their anger and learn how also to control it. Teaching fighting is not always the answer, but also once you do know how to fight, the need or want to isn't as provoking.

The loudmouths are the ones who know they can't defend themselves, so they resort to guns, and big talk to scare others away.

My son got a notification from his (Tates) Twitter and I GRILLED him on the way home (he had just started 7th grade at the time).. Turns out he wasn’t following him and didn’t really know who he was yet.. As a single mother and an engineer and someone who tries to raise my kid to respect everyone (including women), it was a hard lesson to give. I made him watch some of his videos and explained how what he was saying was wrong and/or misogynistic.. I really hope he didn’t end up liking him after that, but I know how young teens can be..
