The comment on how audiences didnt seem ready or comfortable with sci fi is interesting. I have a story to share when you cover The Shape Of Things To Come from my Grandmother.
But essentially a sense that people would lose their place in all the technology.

It's clear that by now, movies had become established as a primary form of entertainment.
I all about movies, but it was the sci-fi movies that initially sparked my interest.
Just the ability to enjoy entertainers from a hundred years ago as shadows on a screen feels like science fiction to me.
Thanks for the link to the pre-code Connecticut Yankee. I don't think I have that one.

No one can say you have not done your homework. I am a fan of sci fi films and 20th century movies in general especially from the 1930's to the late 1950's. You have brought forth some really interesting historical movies & plots that never seemed to go out of vogue to the hollywood writers, directors & producers. I never realized that Will Rogers made all those movies. I just assumed he was famous for being famous and his ability to stand up in front of a crowd while getting witty & keeping their attention riveted.

I'm looking forward to when you cover the serials of the later 30's. (Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon) Back then, a kid could spend a Saturday afternoon with cartoons, a serial and double feature with a box of popcorn and a soda for 15¢. Problem was not many kids had 15¢.

The studios made the serials with no budget. Re-used sets, same music. They were awesome! I can only imagine being a kid in the late 30's waiting for the next installment. Must have been like watching Star Wars once a week for 15 minutes at a time.

@@georgemarcouxjr6192 When I was a kid in the late 1970s and early 1980s, at one cinema in town every summer they did like a Saturday kids film series. It wasn't quite the same as seeing installments of the old serials, it was instead completely different films, but with the same kind of idea -- get the kids out of the house for a few hours for just a few bucks. I can't even remember what all we saw, but I do remember seeing the original theatrical release of Battlestar Galactica (including its original theatrical ending with Baltar losing his head), and some other stuff such as the dog movie Benji.
We had a good time going to those, but I can see how the added thrill of seeing chapters of serialized Batman, Superman, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon stories would have been more exciting!

Another great video in this brilliant series! One remark: the photo at 29:30 is not from F.W. Murnau’s “Nosferatu” (1922) with Max Schreck in the title role. It shows Klaus Kinski as Nosferatu in the remake made by director Werner Herzog in 1979. But please go on with your otherwise good work! Can’t wait for the next episode!

PLEASE EXCUSE THE ALL CAPS DUE TO VISION PROBLEMS (AND NOT "YELLING" ;-)
THIS HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT, DETAILED AND BACKGROUND FILLED SEIRES. I CONTINUE TO SUBSCRIBE AN LOOK FORWARD TO THESE EPISODES AS YOU PROGRESS THROUGH THE YEARS, COVERING FILMS THAT HAVE BEEN IGNORED FOR FAR TOO LONG. I FIND IT VERY REFRESHING, FOR EXAMPLE, TO SEE LENGTHY COMMENT ON PROJECTS LIKE "THE END OF THE WORLD". "DELUGE" I SASME WIL ALSO BE FORTHCOMING. I HOPE YOU WILL ALSO INCLUDE "NON-TEOP NEW YORK" WHEN YOU GET TO 1936, EVEN IF THE SF CONTENT IS THIN.
MY ONE OTHER SUGGESTION IS ONE RELATED TO GRAMMAR: WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT PEOPLE I HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER USING THE MORE PROPER "WHO" RATHER THAN "THAT", AS IN "HE WAS THE ONE WHO INVENTED ....etc" RATHER THAN ""HE WAS THE ONE THAT INVENTED....etc". SOMEHOW MANY PODCASTERS AND REPORTERS HAVE SLIPPED INTO THIS RATHER CLUNKY GRAMMATICAL HABIT OF REFERRING TO PEOPLE AS IF THEY WERE OBJECTS, NOT LIVING BEINGS. (AND I'VE ALSO ALWAYS FELT THAT ANIMALS COULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED TO BE "WHO's" RATHER THAN "THAT's". TO ME, MY DOG IS A "WHO" NOT A "THAT".
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR EXCELLENT WORK. I'M SURE THAT THESE EPISODES ARE QUITE TIME-CONSUMING TO RESEARCH AND MAKE!!

Thank you so much for your notes. I'm discovering many films of the early science fiction era as I research each video. We concentrate so much on the 1950s to the present. There are so many gems in the 1920s and 30s. I will try to be more mindful in the future about grammatical errors. I'm a one-person operation and try to improve with each video. Cheers.

@@marswantsmovies MY NOTE RE : "WHO" V. "THAT"IS MY ONLY SUCH THING I COULD BE PICKY ABOUT. EVERYTHING ELSE YOU'VE DONE HAS BEEN SPOT ON EXCELLENT. SO, REALLY, IT IS BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN SO DARN CLOSE TO ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IN YOUR RESEARCH, COMMENTS AND VISUAL PRESENTATION THAT I BOTHERED TO MAKE THE MINOR "TWEAK" SUGGESTION AT ALL. AND, BTW, THIS PARTICULAR GRAMMATICAL HICCUP IS SUPER COMMON, A TREND THAT SEEMS TO HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE LAST 10 OR SO YEARS. (AND NOW I FEEL LIKE I AM VERY MUCH BELABORING THIS POIINT, SO I'LL JUST SHUT UP NOW. HA! ;-)
AGAIN, APOLOGIES FOR THE ALL CAPS. MY VISION IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE/AM UNDERGOING TREATMENTS.
      GOOD WISHES.
