Thank You for the history lessons on Hollywood's movies. Looking forward to your episode on 1949 !
@marramraabe: I too have been checking, and realise something is wrong. Moreover, my subscription was not auto-deducted in December, and now January... What's up, Melissa? We miss you. Last episode seen was this #28 (1948), and is marked as "3 months ago" (i.e. October) which does not sound right. Has the RUclips admin disconnected the channel, as I can no longer log on via my subscription...
When you ever come back?
13:51 just a little note, since I'm from Czech Republic 😅it's not ,,Karl Keypek" but ,,Karel Chapek" no "eys" just spoken as it's written 🫶🏼
I've always believed that "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man" works better if you view it as The Wolfman 2, it's really a continuation of that story with The Monster as a side character. If you watch the film like that, it's an enjoyable film
I keep checking in on Fridays... we miss you!

Those knights to the right of Flash at time 6:41. Those costumes were used a number of times in Three Stooges shorts who were also with Columbia. Just search oh, elaine.
My grandad was in the general strike in the UK. He was a coal miner in the north of England. The experience soured him on the whole concept of trade unions in general and strikes in particular. He ultimately died of "black lung"; it took the government about four decades to finally offer his family compensation, which amounted to a couple of grand. By then, of course, most of the family that could actually remember him were dead.
Great first episode. Looking forward to more.
DO YOU HAVE ANY UPDATES as to the status of your (truly great) history series? I have a fairly extensive archive on this subject/genre. I might be able to help/add to the information of certain films and shows I've researched quite extensively, perhaps in straightening out a few errors that keep getting repeated. Just a thought. Good wishes in sorting out whatever issue(s) you have been dealing with. We all look forward to your (hopeful) return. Soon?
Hi, I've decided to take a break until January. I've been working and can't concentrate on the channel. After some time off to get refreshed and situated I can start the series again with 1949.
Are you still producing content ?
I'm taking a break until January. I've been working a lot and will have time again to work on new videos in the new year. Have a wonderful holiday.
Is the year 1949 coming up soon?
Hopefully next week.
@@marswantsmovies great I am looking forward to it
@@marswantsmovies Whew! I was afraid you had quit!
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Vagely remember some of those episodes🤔. Remember ( Casa Blanca ) Claude Rains invisible man😳.

Your channel is amazing. Keep up the good work.
😴😴😴 had to put it on x1.5
The only addition I would’ve put in and it’s not a big deal sort of, but I would’ve put in the Time Machine novel by H.G. Wells of course because he started the genre of time travel which has become a staple in modern cinema
However, I love your analysis. I’m gonna continue to watch your episode of you’re amazing.
Another fine job with well selected clips;
A shame DC didnt let Republic do the Superman serial The flying FX would have been much better than cartoons
A good case of "what could have been". Republic did a good job with The Adventures of Captain Marvel in 1941 and the studio had so much more experience producing serials.
Thank you again for a great video. I look forward to your shows. This week I really needed it. Just went through two back to back hurricanes. Keep up the good work.
I hope you and your family are well. I'm so glad this channel provides support in a difficult time.
The Superman serial looks fantastic. I'm seventy six and had no idea ! I grew up with George Reeves. I was aware of the Flischer Animations, but this Serial disappeared, TV use to show serials, back in the. fifties. I remember , "The Phantom Creeps". Radar Men. and some Roy Rodgers serials as well, (or was it Gene Auttry/) No station I know carried the Superman serial. Did DC comics have a roll in this ?
Gene Autry made a sci-fi serial in 1935 called The Phantom Empire. It's on RUclips. It's one of my favorite series I covered in previous episodes. I'm not the biggest comic book expert, but I believe Superman was under National Comics control in 1949, and the company eventually became DC Comics.
@@marswantsmovies.. Yes I remember the Phantom Empire.
it's clear that Cold War anxieties (and agendas) were pervasive sources of drama for all of the arts and much of culture. But they also gave us space travel. I'm sorry you couldn't get Chemie und Liebe (sp?). It looks like a lot of fun. I just can't wait to see the next chapter in this story. It's so rich and your research is so thorough. I really appreciate the links, but I also want to find out more about everything else you mention.
Chemie und Liebe sound like a crazy story. Who would think to turn grass into butter and make a movie about it?
As always, I have learned a lot from this channel. I have to mention something cultural that happened in 1948 that is far too often overlooked,Fats Domino recorded his first album that year and was the first person caught red handed playing Rock and Roll music outside of the nightclubs. It didn't seem like much at the time, but it was a watershed event that cleared the way for the wilder music to be accepted by society. The difference between that album(THE FAT MAN) and anything else recorded that year is noticeable, and that's even taking Cab Calloway and Louis Jordan into consideration. If it were to be recorded today, it wouldn't even be noticed by the most jaded hipsters, but in 1948 it was a masterpiece of boogie woogie. I can't wait to see what you have been working on for 1949, these videos are well worth waiting for. Thanks again for your help filling in the gaps of my understanding of historic cinema, you have opened my eyes to some truly wonderful movies.
Thanks so much. 1949 is a fascinating year. There's some features, serials and even some television. So many changes in culture from rock and roll to television are on the horizon. The late 1940s and then the 1950s are going to be a lot of fun to discuss.
Thanks for another terrific episode Melissa and Glenn!
Great episode as ever! Let's see, those things mentioned in this episode that are in my collection, some of which are part of my regular viewing cycles...Mysterious Doctor Satan, Superman serial, Atom Man Vs Superman, the first season of the Superman TV series, the Superman cartoons, Unknown Island, Godzilla - Gigantis The Fire Monster. Sadly, most of the Mexican films I have are tied to wrestling. I have quite a few Santo movies, Wrestling Women vs. movies and a few others, several of which are English dubbed like 1959's Caltiki The Undying Monster. I admit I don't have anything (yet) from Czechoslovakia or Finland. I've seen Der Herr vom andern Stern but don't have a copy of it yet. I've heard of Krakatit but haven't seen it. Will have to watch it soon. I've never even heard of Hormoonit valloillaan but will check it out. I looked, I couldn't find a free copy of Chemie und Liebe, sorry. You can buy a Blu-Ray or DVD copy on the FILMVANDAAG website however. You can also view it on fernsehserien.de though that's not available in the USA. I personally haven't heard of or seen it. See you in 1949!
