Film preservation is so important. Making sure we have a record of our history. And then there are so many lost films we don't even know about and may never find.
@@marswantsmovies Dear Melissa, You are more than welcome. Your research is resurrecting a considerable number of forgotten works to a modern audience, which is a worthy goal and deserving of notice. Frank.
Another very enjoyable episode! "Gold" is the only one of these films that I have seen (Kino BD), but being a Universal collector, I'll have to get "The Vanishing Shadow".
Thanks! I don't know why you are not getting more views, I am not aware of anyone else attempting what you are doing here. This is interesting work you are doing.
Thank you so much for your support. With all the channels available on RUclips I'm still amazed so many around the world find me and the channel is growing with each new video.
As always, a great video. Of course it gets a thumbs up from me and I've been subscribed since episode 2. I have a copy of The Vanishing Shadow and it's part of my sleep sounds (among about 50 classic sci movies and 70+ serials) that I use every night. I think I see or hear The Vanishing Shadow about once every 6 to 8 weeks. Flash Gordon and Tailspin Tommy serials is also in my rotation.
I enjoyed The Vanishing Shadow. One of my favorites I watched for this episode and I've been singing the Flash Gordon theme from the 1980 film the whole time I was writing the literature section.
Perfectly timed drop.....my day off. As a history nut with a sci-fi bent,I can't find many more videos anywhere as suitable for my particular interests. Impressive work.
I believe the movie MAGNETIC MONSTER used stock footage from GOLD, rather than existing sets and props. Much cheaper that way. Nevertheless, this installment was worth the wait. Keep it up!
Like the other people commenting, am thoroughly enjoying your tremendous video series! Also looking forward to watching the number of subscribers to your channel skyrocket as you progress, which will be a fitting reward for your efforts - Take care, see you in 1935!
Thanks for Geld/Gold. I love a pretty movie, even if the story is dumb. And for The Vanishing Shadow. I'm rediscovering movie serials and this one looks great!
Another great episode Melissa! Your going to be busy with post WWII. Believe it or not, the Soviet Union made some fairly decent sci-fi to promote the space program.
Hello. It's interesting that you mention Soviet sci-fi. I'm covering a Soviet film for my 1935 video. I enjoy looking how different countries create sci-fi stories.
The cover for the Blu-Ray is quite something. I'd love to have time to make videos about the posters and advertising for films. There's some great and not so great art out there.
still the best documentary on SF ever made.......I m really curious How far you will go in time...Starting the fifties/sixties...there will be truckload of SF films...I hope you will not snub Japanese films....Starting with GODZILLA 1954 lots of great scfi films....Including the Godzilla films of the sixties and gems like THE MYSTERIANS, ATRAGON and others....keep up the good work..I m looking foward to each new episodes...I consider myself a great specialist of Fantastic films genre from the silent era to today but with each ep YOU make me discover films I didnt know.....congradulation...
Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to covering the Japanese films coming up in the fifties. When I get to the point where I can't cover all the sci-fi films of a single year I may have to split the year into parts so I can discuss everything. I don't want to leave any sci-fi film behind.
This series is wonderful. Thank you for your hard work putting these together. Please consider putting up a Patrion. As I understand it the amount they take is considerably less than what Google does. Cheers
I was debating between setting up a Patreon or RUclips membership but I'm going with Patreon. I hope to have it set up by the time I publish my next video.
@marswantsmovies You could certainly do both as many folks don't want to go to a second place to donate as Patrion is clunky and not as well supported as the behemoth that Googles RUclips is. Cheers
"The Vanishing Shadow" had impressive visual effects for the time! The original Star Trek series is not usually held up as an example of visual greatness, but considering these were more than 30 years apart it makes the disappearing/reappearing scenes in "The Vanishing Shadow" look truly amazing.
I enjoyed The Vanishing Shadow and the quality of the effects really helped sell the craziness of the story. They didn't have a lot of money and used it wisely. A lesson Hollywood today should learn.
Glad to see you've hit over 2,000 subscribers with this video!
Wonderfully thorough. I wish more original footage was available.

Great channel, fantastic voice!
Thank you kindly!
Another great episode. Thanks!
Dear Melissa,
Another excellent production. I'm glad that your subscriber numbers are on the rise.

This series is so well made, amazing! Every episode this far has been perfect. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you. I'm starting on 1935 today.
Glad to donate to such an incredible series. I learn something new in each of your episodes.
I learn so much as well. I love discovering and sharing films that are rarely talked about. Thank you for all your generous comments and donations.

The films of 1935 are a great mix of sci-fi sub-genres. It's going to be a lot of fun to research and write.
Thanks you for your thoughtful research and observations. Another winner!
Thanks so much.
Thanks for Geld/Gold. I love a pretty movie, even if the story is dumb.
And for The Vanishing Shadow. I'm rediscovering movie serials and this one looks great!
The serials of the 1930s are sometimes more entertaining than the features.

Talking of false advertising in films, you should see the poster for The Wasp Woman.

The tv idea in the first film sounds a bit like the one in the 1933 comedy 'International House'
It does sound similar. It is amazing how television-like contraptions were already plot points in the 1930s. Creators were thinking ahead.
@@marswantsmovies The BBC started TV broadcasting in 1936.
