    The struggle of wanting to reread my favourite books, but being afraid of not loving them as much as I did when I first read them. Not fair! 😪🙃

      Don't be worried. I have only been disappointed once. Which is pretty good going I think.

    I have discovered the joys of rereading in recent years. This year I want to reread, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Bleak House, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Mansfield Park, Wicked, Les Miserables, The Waste Lands, Salam's Lot, Mistborn, all of Kate Morton's books, Tooth and Claw, and Crime & Punishment. Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby have been reread three times by me and I think I have reread The Forgotten Garden twice.

    In January I re-read Middlemarch, Ulysses and Gravity's Rainbow. The Golden Notebook and If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things are also books I have enjoyed reading and have Doris Lessing's The Good Terrorist on my TBR pile of books this year.

    I love the idea of a TBRR! I enjoy rereading although I do sometimes get the fear of 'what if I don't like it as much as I remembered'! I am planning on rereading all of Sarah Waters 💞

    I love rereading books and it is fun to see which ones are on your list! Some (but certainly not all) of my favourite books to reread are Great Expectations, The Old Curiosity Shop, Oliver Twist, Cranford, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Dracula, Frankenstein, all of Thomas Hardy, Age of Innocence, all of E. M Forster, Mill on the Floss, Madame Bovary, Little Women, a bunch of children's classics like The Secret Garde, or A Little Princess, The Country Child and Lark Rise to Candleford. For more modern books, anything by Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, or other classics like 84 Charing Cross Road, I Capture the Castle, The Woman in Black, Cider with Rosie, Lolita, Remains of the Day, Never Let Me Go, anything by Tolkien and all the Harry Potter books! For starters. lol Happy reading and rereading!!

    There are so many books on this list that I'd like to read for the first time or reread myself! I'll leave a Voxer message.

    I love to reread books! At this moment, I'd like to reread books I read for the first time on audiobook last year and now I'd love to actually read (with my eyes) to completely get the full meaning and emotions.

    I love rereading, Austen for sure. But I also love rereading Mercedes Lackey especially her 500 Kingdoms or Elemental Masters series, as they are light fairytale retellings

    I love to reread books (about 20% of the books I read in any given year are rereads) but this year, I decided to hold off on rereading until December and spend the whole month with my favourite books. To say that I am excited for the end of the year is an overstatement :)

    Really enjoyed this video - I love re-reading and find it a great comfort. Recently, I re-read Affinity and Girl with a Pearl Earring and appreciated them even more! I also want to re-read The Wonder at some point, as I read it on your recommendation and it's now a favourite :-) Incidentally, I'm currently reading The Moonstone for the first time and really enjoying it.

    This is so interesting to me… This whole thing of changing tastes. I’d love to explore that some more. I think about it a lot. I recently pulled down a book I’ve had since I was extremely young and had always regarded as one of my very top favourites. I’m not sure why I hadn’t re-read it much sooner - but I know part of that was a sense of wanting to savour it and wanting lots of time to do it justice. So I finally re-read the book last month. Shock! Horror! My attitude toward it had changed entirely! I wrote quite a long discussion of this in my book review journal. The only conclusion I can make to explain it is… drumroll… I’m older now! My tastes have changed, my experience has increased vastly, I read in a different way, I am much less romantic and starry eyed, I believe - I hope - I’m more mature LOL - in short it’s just an age thing! I’m pretty sure I’m right. One’s experiences in life alter your taste quite considerably in some cases. Nevertheless I was devastated to realise that I was going to put this old favourite in the donation bag. Which I have done and I’ve moved on - I’ve buried the dead so to speak. But it still all fascinates me. I appreciate your insights on this phenomenon as well. I do think your age has affected you though as well. Your place in life, the amount of time you have to just dwell on things… Perhaps I’m wrong but I do think that those early single years are unique in terms of one’s reading life. What do you think? Thanks for a great video.

    • @katiejlumsden
      @katiejlumsden  2 года назад +1

      Maybe sometime I'll do a video about changing tastes . . . Rereading is definitely very interesting at different ages. There are definitely books I've enjoyed more revisiting when a bit older, or in a different setting, or thinking about it different.

      I re read a child hood favourite and hated it, I have re read two I have been dissappointed in, well, to date anyway. I do agree more mature views come to play. It is a fascinating subject and one to ponder upon.

    • @janetsmith8566
      @janetsmith8566 2 года назад +1

      @@maryh4650 yes very fascinating! Especially to me when it’s a book I read as an adult and yet 10 years later I have a completely different view of it. Just analysing why that should be interests me. I suppose with every re-read you also are picking up different aspects of a story as well so that comes into it.

    Loved Les Miserables..5⭐️ for me. I read it with a reading plan. I just love the main story but could have done without some of Hugo’s tangents..lol

      @mgabrielbenitez 2 года назад

      Hi, Nancy! May I ask what was your reading plan like? 'Cause I'd love to read Les Miserables sooner or later, but I'm a bit scared of its length 😅 thanks!

    • @nancyabbott2660
      @nancyabbott2660 2 года назад +1

      @@mgabrielbenitez Sure. I wrote out approx 30 pages a day with daily dates and chapters and stuck to it daily. It took me two months but reading it more slowly I seem to remember it all very well. I do that with all my classics and make it my first reading of the day. I’ve read 16 classics last year and up to now doing it that way. I always have 1 Classic going with my other books( usually 2-3 others). The other books I just read regularly and switch off. This has worked very well for me. I just looked back…I started it early May and finished mid July. It is daunting but having patience and reading it this way it wasn’t so daunting for me.
