Thanks, Bill! This one's out of my price range regardless, so I don't feel so bad now. I'm a huge Redbreast fan and the 15 Year and 12 Cask Strength go back and forth as my favorite iteration. Looking forward to your comparison of the whole lineup!
I've had the 21, 15, and 12. And overall I actually prefer the 12. If I had to expand on my statement, i would say that the 12 is just SO good for what it is, that the price point being taken into consideration that I don't even consider buying the other two again. (I would agree with you, put in a "try it at a bar" category)
price doesnt equate to taste, money has no correlation with taste . taste is taste regardless of what you paid for it. money is 100% subjective. if i make 400k a year 250 bucks is chump change if i make 40k a year its incredibly expensive. if you give me a bottle of this for 1 dollar, it doesnt change the taste .
Great review! Redbreast 21 is $349 in Ohio. I prefer Redbreast 27, depending on the Batch. Have you had Dunville’s? They are really releasing some great whiskey! Donald is right, you have to let the older Irish breathe a bit.
As always thank you for the honest review Bill! I've seen your other Redbreast reviews and was surprised you weren't a fan of this one, but given the price point it HAS to be perfect every time. Thankfully the 12 year cask strength is less than half the price......
Great review, thanks for posting it. I love the Redbreast line, and I’ll be on the lookout for this one and see if I get a better batch at a good price.
I was also worried about the very same thing: does it worth the money? I have had RB12, RBCS and RB15 and in my humble opinion the basic RB12 gives the best of the buck and till the day is still my absolute favorite.
I had the 2020 release of this and it was amazing. However, this is a lot of money for a whiskey and it is not that much better than the RB12CS. I'm shopping more for great whiskey at a great value these days. Good review.
I pay $245CAD and it is worth it. My much older bottling is an absolute yellow plum and dried apricot bomb, whereas some of the newer Redbreast 21s seem to lean more into the pear and slightly tropical fruit forward. I suspect that in the newer batches they are blending in far less old stock in there than in previous years due to the glut of older Redbreast releases in the last few years.
This was easily in my top 5 whiskies ive ever had. Unfortunately, the price was high and continues to rise. Also, the sweetspot for this one was relatively short. Had to wait a while for it to open up, and now the heel has gone flat. Either way, it was exceptional and the 12, 15, and lustau are more affordable. Cheers Bill
$230-250 sounds like a good deal..i can't find it anywhere for less than $300, heck it usually runs closer to $400. I probably would've bought it for $230 but now...well now I'm not sure. Have you reviewed Irishman 17? I've heard people compare this to that, and I love Irishman 17 for $150.
Back in the day i bought two bottles of RBCS 12, for $60 each($120 total)..now they're almost gone tho :( i shared them with my bourbon drinking friends to show them what a good single malt could do and lure them to the scotch side. They loved it but they're sticking with bourbon. And now i don't know if i want to get anymore rbcs12 at these prices which are double what i paid
Not worth the cost! that is starting to become the norm to me. I havent gone back to mine in a long time i need to try it again. I loved it but it was fresh open bottle. For the cost i would have rated it a lot higher if it was cask strength.
Hey Bill, maybe you should add another level to your rating system. "Mooch it." If you've got a friend who has a bottle that you're thinking of buying, then mooch some off him/her. Here's hoping it opens up more for ya

The 27 I had tasted all mango and papaya. If I could be guaranteed to get that flavor profile, I'd spend the 650. Favorite drink I've ever had.

Now please review Yamasaki 25, i know you can afford it Bill
Join the Patreon and maybe I can :)
Always appreciate the honesty 👍

It's an awesome value for the money
Thanks Bill 💸
When are you going to review the Dreamcast?
I've tried to buy the last few. Haven't been drawn for the lottery

I was underwhelmed as well and I only paid $140 about 4 years ago.

I havent, I'll need to look out for it
The 12 is good enough for me!

I agree was a letdown for me too still enjoyed it but for the price had high expectations
I must just be very unlucky. The two bottles of RB 21 I’ve been able to try tasted like burnt transmission fluid.

I like to think that one is covered by "Try It". Plus, the whiskey Vault kind of has a monopoly on mooching :)
here this one is $399 + TAX. I’ll PASS. Thank you Bill!
Hah, daily sipper. Sounds like you've got the kind of cash to support me on Patreon 😉
It’s $400 tax included where I am. Ouch!
Oof. Not worth it
$380 in Ohio on OHLQ 💀
You must have gotten a bad batch because you are dead wrong about this one…..
You swallowed within 5 seconds, your not doing this bottling justice by downing it like a cowboy
I'm filming a video. There's cuts, I drink off camera, I take notes ahead of time. I spent 3 weeks with this bottle before filming
Said it many times. RB is over rated.
