It's a joy watching these old series way better than today's programs all the actors are out of TV series I enjoy, Terry and june' the rag trade's and on the buses all great
Great to see James Beck AND Arnold Ridley!!!!! Just about a year or two before wonderful Dads Army started . We’ve lost a huge amount of talent, never to be replaced
Having said that, I’m sure Dads Army’s first series started in ‘67 so it’s the same year as this show . I think Dads army had a Hiatus of a couple of years thereafter, before a second series was commissioned . What a waste of those two years without Dads!!! Just imagine, we’ve probably been denied a glorious extra 12 episodes in those two years !
I reckon Reg Varney must have had 'free breakfast' written into his television contracts. I've never seen an actor eat as many has him in all the programmes he's been in.
It always makes me laugh that he played a 53 year old man who lived with his mum in 'On the Buses' and yet was portrayed as a sex symbol that all the 'birds' were after!
Well Done June You were a great comedy Actress that was always working with the comedy greats Mainly the men Frankie To Julian After seeing the Many Faces of June Whitfield on BBC 2
What's amusing is that 1933 Morris would have been a classic back when this was made. It'd be like owning a Ford Capri today, even if it wasn't in the best of condition it'd have still been quite desirable to a collector. But script writers and tv people don't know about these things, they just see something as old as junk, because they're use to buying new cars as soon as they come out. Quite a good sitcom, never seen it before, heard it mentioned by older people many years ago,so thought I'd look it up on yewtoob
I actually did a quick search on the British Newspaper Archive website to see what £40 bought you in 1967 and you actually had quite a choice of mid 50s cars. Standard Vanguards, Ford Anglia 100Es and Consuls, Hillman Minxs, A40 Somersets. Probably not in the best condition by that time but certainly better for everyday travel than the 20s Morris shown here.
Can’t remember this, although was 11 in 67, they all now dead in this episode, a sad fact of life, Reg with his inflated ego, Pat with man’s legs, I once fancied June, Peter was a strange man, strange cast for this episode.
Why would that be? Peter Jones played a "better spoken" white-collar manager with pretentions at the same firm as Reg Varney who played a blue-collar worker on the shopfloor yet, against our expectations, was poorer off financially (owing to improved wages and conditions in the 1960s achieved through the increasing power of the trade unions?). The casting seems correct to me.
I've really enjoyed this episode I wonder if you've got any more from this wonderful series beggar my neighbour believe there's eight episodes that survive which is the complete series 2 and the first two episodes of series 1. Thanks.

Couldn’t bare Dad’s Army due to the captain’s inflated ego, and Beck was a bragger, Ridley owed money, so had to work later in life, hence Army.

@@betaman7988 40 quid was a lot of money back then, not many working class people could afford cars. Those semi detached houses look middle class.
Great viewing! What better way to start the day? Thank you.
It's my first time watching this it's amazing

Good theme tune.
Union flag 🇬🇧 is upside down
How times have changed Police don't have time for petty crime
Or any other sort unless its mis gendering someone on twitter or anti lockdown protesters.
Episode should be entitled......A Change Of Husband
I would've put Reg Varney and Peter Jones roles the other way round in this.

good comdey
The Subtitles have gone crazy
Have only seen one episode of this before, and june whitfields husband was played by another actor, forgot his name though
Robert Gillespie, James Beck and Arnold Ridley in the supporting cast - not bad work from the casting director
And Arthur English as the salesman
Some cast!@@tomhaskett5161
Where do you get all this archive material I'm looking for any Ken Dodd shows and Dick Emery from the 60s if you can help.
PM me.
The flag would possibly be OK if it was the correct way up. Nothing worse than a patriot that doesn’t know their own flag.
You havnt got a load of pakistanis in there paying 3 quid a week rent ? Can you imagine him saying that today? Is that cop walker off dads army?
What is that car? A Morris 8?
Sorry but the logo in the top left hand corner is way too big and too distracting. Shame that otherwise I would have watched beyond 4 minutes.
Shame they always use canned laughter if it's funny then we can giggle
