Finally someone understands how powerful the Testament theme is, I don't know why so many people put it so low on tier list, I feel it's a pretty dramatic and powerful song that presents the current state of the character well.
I believe it's because of the delivery and pronounciation of the lyrics that throws people of in a way that feels the wrong kind of wrong instead of a right kind of wrong if you know what I mean

I'm at 11:00 and so far your tierlist is almost a carbon copy of what my thoughts on the music were back when I first got into it on release of Strive. What I didn't have back then though was the understanding of all the musical references - thank you for putting those in, I can barely believe how similar Hellfire is to Stone Cold Crazy.
Daisuke is a music lover for sure and you can tell how much love he put into every track. And yeah it's funny how you react to the tracks when you don't know the context of the characters they represent! I'd love to know which opinions would change after playing the game
The Town Inside Me is a really cool track, it's a blues track through and through, but disguised as pop. It makes sense though, his preferences are strongly towards the old school metal/hard rock stuff, so it's unsurprising he wouldn't like a bluesy-pop track.
I think that the beautiful thing about Like a Weed is how it plays into the two key figures that influenced Testament's life: Dizzy and Kliff Undersen. I also like how it plays into Testament being non-binary, with changing from male pronouns to female pronouns to male pronouns over and over again. The Town Inside Me also delves into Bridget's gender dysphoria (Feeling out of place, being stuck in a gray haze) and her finally accepting her true self. I think that's the beautiful part about Guilty Gear Strive. All of the character themes express their personality and their own struggles and triumphs very well. Even some of the more one-note characters are fleshed out in some form (Potemkin grappling with the fact that he may one day not be strong enough to protect Zepp, Leo dealing with major PTSD from fighting in the Crusades and watching many of his men die, Ramlethal overcoming the Universal Will conditioning her to believe that humans are inherently evil, etc.) so I don't really mind a few themes like Disaster of Passion and Perfection Can't Please Me if we can have some more themes like Like a Weed and Mirror of the World.
I think you're absolutely right, even though I went to the video with virtually no knowledge of the characters, I did feel like every one of them represented the character very well! Regardless of what I thought of the track
That's a very interesting point! Though I feel like it's how Daisuke composes tracks for Aisha, cause I like the quality of her voice, delivery is clean af and much of the times it's a great contrast from the low-end mixes of the heavy tracks. So if the Aisha effect exists, it's not her fault I'd say. It might just be how the tracks are composed around her. Excellent observation though!
Not gonna lie, I don't have a lot of knowledge on all the classic metal Guilty Gear references, so seeing you recognize sounds and pointing them out was really interesting to me! Great video bro
For Referance, Potemkin's theme (Armored clad Faith) is a scathing review of his home country before him and his friend staged a coup on the dictator, as for the I'm a fool parts, its his self doubts on whether or not he actually made change, but how he knows that he needs to have faith that future generations that will enjoy the fruits of there labor, so he needs to hope and pray. As for Zato, the end part talks about how he got all emotion stollen from him by his demon, but he can feel one emotion, he doesn't know what its is, but all he knows is that he gets when he is near millia, which is why he is willing to stay in her shadow. i love how you caught so many of the influences and references!!!!!! im a huge gg fan and music fan and those are one of my fav bits of this ost oh but trigger disrespect will not be tolerated. the laid-back beastie boys influence is such a cool contrast to the other character's themes
ive been watching tons of reactions to GGST ost but you are the first ive seen to pull up this ammount of refferences to other songs ngl, great reaction! just kinda sad how short the video/parts of the songs were
Drift, Zato's, and The Circle are definitely my top 3, I was a little bit sadge to see them relatively low but I respect it (also would've loved to see requiem make the cut, one of my favorites for sure and I'm always interested in peoples' opinion on it)
Yeah sadly I didn't say anything too relevant for me to include in the video. The VODs available if you wanna take a look, you can see the full reaction to all of them there. And honestly?? Some of the tracks grew on me, today, the circle would probably be S
The vod is in the description and has the full reaction to all of the tracks! I decided to compress the length of the video so it becomes more acessible
for the context of Armor Clad Faith, the character fought and overthrew the tyrannical government he and everyone in his nation lived in as a slave. Hence the mention of society and role of a clown being in the lyrics, as no one believed he’d be able to do such thing
An edited reaction with a totally "objective" opinion, musical references and an overall fresh take on the ost tierlist?? I like that, even if I find it criminal to rate Drift anything that isn't S. Overall good video dude, you have good taste and good music knowledge 👍
I respect your tierlist!!! pretty funny video too lolll, its sick to see someone put alone infection in s tier as its one of my personal favourites from the game. One reason for that is how its all brought together in the end!!
Not putting Let me Carve your Way in S tier is a crime but the rest of the tier list is rlly good- I love the The Circle appreciation cuz I really think it doesn't get the love it deserves
a while ago i just realized that axl lows theme mimicks suprisingly close to paradise city and now i cant unhear it. bro is just a one huge gnr refrence also giovannas theme is literaly sabotage by beastie boys
Let Me Carve Your Way is actually fitting for a character LIKE Zato-1. And actually hits harder if you've recently had yourself loss. Like, if you've lost a loved one or someone very important it's just...whoof... The song is more or less an psychological breakdown as Zato refers to that loss of emotions from when he was CLONED after his original body died twice. (First time was when the Parasite on him, Eddie (The literal SHADOWS HE USES) consumed him, then later when Millia, his FORMER LOVER, was forced to put him down in a mercy killing which actually put him down proper) The clone had all the memories but none of the emotional weight of them...EXCEPT when Millia comes into play, then it's all so clear (HE STILL LOVES HER DEARLY) but is willing to just act as the shadow if she isn't willing to start back up anything. 'Man who can make anything' is a reference to 'That Man' (Asuka) who had that nickname due to his incredible knowledge and capabilities with magic, being one of the creators of the Gears themselves. That last bit of the song is when Zato is finally calming down and getting to the set of memories that just make him feel again. The song is one of the longest on the OST and you will NEVER hear that last bit during a match because match timers are too short and fights don't last that long. So it usually is left to sucker punch you if you're just listening to the OST by itself or if you're doing practice and Let Me Carve Your Way is the track playing in the background. Hellfire is basically Leo basically demonstrating SURVIVOR'S GUILT. It reveals that the reason he's in the fight right now? It's that he fucking WANTS YOU TO KILL HIM. He's just not gonna LET it happen, it'd be a disservice to the men who'd died under his command. It's literally why he's strongest when he's in the stance where he's got his back to you, as if saying 'Kill me, I fucking dare you!' Drift is as Chatoic as Happy Chaos himself, it every bit shouts his (Startlingly positive) brand of Nihilism, namely that since nothing is all that special? It's ALL so beautiful! Moreso pronounced during his bit where he just goes full Disney Princess. Mirror of the World is basically Baiken's Story, one of a very limited amount of people in the world of Guilty Gear: Japanese. She lost her home, her family, etc. And grew hateful, wanting to murder 'That Man', the start of the song is a discordant attempt to do the Buddhist prayer of Enlightenment, only becoming more meaningfully complete by the end with her new lease on life both because of her experiences (and knowing folk like Anji and kind of adopting Bedman's Sister, which is forcing her to heal and grow). Thus the lyric of her being a Time Exile and it being refuted by the end of the song.
Nah mate, you didn't call Drift C tier, I know it's a difficult song to keep up with and it breaks a lot of conventions so brain feels uncomfortable while listening to it for the first time but listen to it few more times, your brain will get used to the chaos and you will be able to hear actual beauty of it. (Which is oddly thematic to the character)
A lot of the songs become worlds better once you know the backstory of the character it correlates to. For example Leo whitefangs massive amount of survivors guilt, or fausts song being about his mental journey through losing a young patient during one of his surgeries.
did you uhh... come back to this yet after learning each characters' story? i'd love to see an updated list where you finally know the backstory of each character to see if there's any changes to the list
Wow, there’s a lot of western rock references in these themes, I wonder if there was a precedent for it from the guy who named one of his characters Axl Low?
respect for putting pottemkins theme B tier. Probably the most consistent S tier. as for the lyrics, you really just gotta know the haracter. He is not a joker at all. He do his job beliving in the people he serves beause he know thats the best he can do to help other. But he is still unsure if thats whats best for his country. a lot more deep but thats the part of his story his theme is based on.
I think the reason some tracks hit hard for you and others dont is because every track is carefully curated for its character. Their quite literally one to one with their character. Some characters are canonically at their best, making their themes less hardcore, while other characters are really deep into suffering, which is why they have so much grunge and anger in their osts.
I’m surprised by how many influences you picked up in the tracks. I think the guitar riff for the verses of Rock Parade sound really similar to American Idiot. Also, I think that Crawl had a lot more old school trash inspiration like Metallica and I’ve heard Kiss of Death described as biker metal. Idk if that’s a real thing tho.
Ngl I find watching him react to guilty gear as a whole really fun, his knowledge is so patchy, he knows inconsistent amounts, albeit decent amounts, and just thought johnny was a deez nuts joke lmfao. (may's theme really fits, but that demon deserves C tier.)
A few of these songs feel har dro evaluate because they like to tell the story or mental of the character. Drift is a rough comparison, but I think it reflects Happy Chaos's mental after decades of insanity.
Yeah I understand and I feel like it's very cool that they do that. I tried to give the perspective of someone who doesn't know the characters to show how the songs stand on their own, it's a cool experiment. Maybe one day I'll get to know the backstories and evaluate the songs differently!

I grew up with my parents playing living on a prayer on loop. Small wonder i love roar of the spark so much
This video is seriously brilliant. Every similarity I picked up on you can name effortlessly, and you picked up on ones I hadn't even though I know the songs well. Ez sub sir! Would love more guilty gear ost content if you feel like there is more to do.
Bro your references are spot on!
Thank you! It's cool that many of those references stand out, makes it all the much more fun to listen to them
i love how you caught so many of the influences and references!!!!!! im a huge gg fan and music fan and those are one of my fav bits of this ost
oh but trigger disrespect will not be tolerated. the laid-back beastie boys influence is such a cool contrast to the other character's themes
It's definitely very fun to listen to!! I can't wait for more characters to come out so there's more new music to hear!
I love all the musical similarities to other songs you pointed out.
I can't wrap my head around some of these being B or lower, but Out of the Box being A. I guess we just wouldn't get along musically, but that's okay.
ive been watching tons of reactions to GGST ost but you are the first ive seen to pull up this ammount of refferences to other songs ngl, great reaction! just kinda sad how short the video/parts of the songs were
Drift, Zato's, and The Circle are definitely my top 3, I was a little bit sadge to see them relatively low but I respect it
(also would've loved to see requiem make the cut, one of my favorites for sure and I'm always interested in peoples' opinion on it)
Yeah sadly I didn't say anything too relevant for me to include in the video. The VODs available if you wanna take a look, you can see the full reaction to all of them there. And honestly?? Some of the tracks grew on me, today, the circle would probably be S
@@takarin64 having tracks grow on you is a great feeling. had that happen for both Goldlewis's theme and Jack-O's
amazing, a gulity gear music video that only has small tidbits of the actual songs
The vod is in the description and has the full reaction to all of the tracks! I decided to compress the length of the video so it becomes more acessible
Wait... What about Necessary discrepancy and Requiem?
high quality content, nice eddits, hope you will get lots of views
Thank you so much!! Truly appreciate it!
9:15 bro he died and literally has no emotions cut him some slack.
Oh my God I'm so glad someone else pointed out the huge Full House vibes in Out of the Box lmao it's so uncanny. Love that song tho
for the context of Armor Clad Faith, the character fought and overthrew the tyrannical government he and everyone in his nation lived in as a slave. Hence the mention of society and role of a clown being in the lyrics, as no one believed he’d be able to do such thing
Mirror is 100% S for me. I don't think it has any weak parts.
An edited reaction with a totally "objective" opinion, musical references and an overall fresh take on the ost tierlist?? I like that, even if I find it criminal to rate Drift anything that isn't S. Overall good video dude, you have good taste and good music knowledge 👍
Appreciate it a good bunch! Hoped it was a nice experience! Yes it's totally """objective""" hahahaha!
I respect your tierlist!!! pretty funny video too lolll, its sick to see someone put alone infection in s tier as its one of my personal favourites from the game. One reason for that is how its all brought together in the end!!
Oh yeah alone infection is amazing, the lyrics are super aggressive, really gives in to Faust's vibe
I love the cat in your profile picture :) very cute and makes me happy
Such a wide breadth of musical knowledge
Thank you! I try to listen as many different types of music as I can, it's fun to deconstruct music like this!
Best ost tier list I’ve scene for sure
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Not putting Let me Carve your Way in S tier is a crime but the rest of the tier list is rlly good- I love the The Circle appreciation cuz I really think it doesn't get the love it deserves
Man!! and imma be honest, it grew a lot on me, can't get it out of my head, it's got the best chorus out of the entire OST so far
Bro has the hottest takes
Don't let bro cook he overcooks
Just let me cook ONE MORE TIME
homie actually put Disaster of Passion in C tier
he knows to bully May mains so he gets my sub
Alone Infection for the win.
Thanks for these song reccomendationsss
All good! I hope to do more of these so I can share more of the music I love! It feels great to see everything connecting when it comes to music!
No way he put Town Inside Me that low.
May, Happy Chaos and Bridget were done dirty but this video is great
a while ago i just realized that axl lows theme mimicks suprisingly close to paradise city and now i cant unhear it.
bro is just a one huge gnr refrence
also giovannas theme is literaly sabotage by beastie boys
also also circle makes me fucking cry.
Disaster of Passion not S tier, Trigger and Drift at C??? Man's is burying me v_v
but great music reference knowledge though.
(First time was when the Parasite on him, Eddie (The literal SHADOWS HE USES) consumed him, then later when Millia, his FORMER LOVER, was forced to put him down in a mercy killing which actually put him down proper)
The clone had all the memories but none of the emotional weight of them...EXCEPT when Millia comes into play, then it's all so clear (HE STILL LOVES HER DEARLY) but is willing to just act as the shadow if she isn't willing to start back up anything.
It's literally why he's strongest when he's in the stance where he's got his back to you, as if saying 'Kill me, I fucking dare you!'
Drift is as Chatoic as Happy Chaos himself, it every bit shouts his (Startlingly positive) brand of Nihilism, namely that since nothing is all that special?
Imma be honest chief, it shouldn't be surprising that the Japanese franchise has some "anime" songs in its soundtrack
Did he not realize that "Who do you fight for?" has the Vocal structure of Come Together?
Nah mate, you didn't call Drift C tier, I know it's a difficult song to keep up with and it breaks a lot of conventions so brain feels uncomfortable while listening to it for the first time but listen to it few more times, your brain will get used to the chaos and you will be able to hear actual beauty of it. (Which is oddly thematic to the character)
Im so glad you pointed out that perfection cant please me is just dont stop me now i felt insane for so long
Most of these songs lyrics make sense if you know the characters lore.
Not yet! I'd like to eventually do it though, seems like a fun idea!
1:35 glad to know i'm not the only one hearing living on a prayer
bruh, you knew so many references to the songs, nice!
Im surprised u didnt mention the come together refrence for Nagoriyukis theme
Omg I TOTALLY HEAR IT!! Daisuke is a genius! Hahaha
@@takarin64 i didnt notice at first too. Its put nicely in
i live for music react content and this was excellent, ty steamer man
I really wanna do more, maybe SF6 character themes??? Could be fun!
Sorry if can I ask for the intro song's name? I heard this song for a while but lost track of it but now I found it here, thank you
It's Mewmore's remix of MvC2's Clock Tower!: ruclips.net/video/ZR6liu10mDM/видео.html
@@takarin64 Thanks again
I was expecting you to point out how nagoriuki's theme sounds like the beetles
Yeah, really missed that one, this OST is a love letter to rock music in all their forms, I got some, missed some
I am so weak for plinging noises in music (especially rock/metal) and ky's theme had me on my knees, absolute S tier for me
Wow, there’s a lot of western rock references in these themes, I wonder if there was a precedent for it from the guy who named one of his characters Axl Low?
finnaly a good tier list video
Finally, a good comment!
Alriiiight, imma go sub, bro knows his shift
Aight bro, you know i got u
Dude you can tell what drift is all bout based on the fact the character it was written for is literally named Happy Chaos
Half the songs I'm like "hell yeah mate good choice" and the other half like "How fucking dare"
the best reaction i have seen so far
Appreciate it! More soon!
huge respect for putting Testament's Theme on S tier
but the others...😭😭
We can't have it all, can we? :(
@@takarin64 fair enough
Оборачивайся по ночам за Потемкина
The ending of Armor-clad Faith makes it S tier for me..... I also play Potemkin
missing the best part of rock parade is CRIMINAL
Drift and Mirror of th World not being S tier is actually criminal. A war crime, even. Throw this man in the slammer.
You're not alone! Didn't know people liked drift that much 😭
6:10 if you know potemkim lore and how he was a slave and a revolucionary for his people it makes the society part a little least weird
respect for putting pottemkins theme B tier.
The more I watch I worse your opinions get, it's amazing
8:56 Zato holding a sandwich that eddie wants
A few of these songs feel har dro evaluate because they like to tell the story or mental of the character. Drift is a rough comparison, but I think it reflects Happy Chaos's mental after decades of insanity.
Yeah I understand and I feel like it's very cool that they do that. I tried to give the perspective of someone who doesn't know the characters to show how the songs stand on their own, it's a cool experiment. Maybe one day I'll get to know the backstories and evaluate the songs differently!
