    I just subscribed! I can't wait to check out all of your content. I am a 57 year old woman who decided 6 months ago, to re-learn piano (keyboard) after taking lessons as a 9-12 year old 45 plus years ago! I'm not shooting for a chance to play Carnegie Hall, only to amuse myself, just for fun, (and an occasional family member I force to listen) 😅.

      Don't make it sound like 57 is too old to learn piano! Keep up the good work!!!!

      Flatten the 3rd and the 7th and do exactly the same thing....ie; root, flat3rd, 5th, flat7th and 9.
      So for the C minor chord;
      C, Eb, G, Bb, D.

      As Boy Bergs said, it will be an m9 chord (1-b3-5-b7-9).
      For example, play an Am9 (G-B-C-E) and then an Fm9 (G-Ab-C-Eb), sounds great.

    • @MrBoybergs
      @MrBoybergs 2 года назад +5

      @@Jesusistheway5724 oh right; relative minor. And that's why I don't have a RUclips channel. Thanks for the diplomatic response 🙂

      The chord shapes for the relative major sound great. For example just play the shapes from this video with am and dm instead of C and F. It will be 2347 instead of 7125.

    This is an incredible lesson. Really was one of the most inspiring and easily explained example of improv. I'm a bassist and guitarist and I've never had any lessons, but this was so lovely to hear, I could have looped parts of this and just chilled out. I took what you've done and made a small melody in my DAW using this... I can't wait to watch more of your videos... I can't believe I've just found your channel... I'll check out your lessons and other material... thanks for sharing...

    i love to play the piano i have for about 30 years. however, i still can't play from sheet music. oh, i can read music. but somehow, my hands and my eyes don't care for the task, and i don't posses the short term memory so i can remember what i did last time in order to play it again and make corrections., i end up hearing the same song many times trying to read it. and i rather don't like playing other peoples' music; i'd rather just put in a CD if someone wants that. so, instead of playing Beethoven, Fur Elise... again (music student's have been playing that jewel for a mere 200 years, conventional stuff. ) or anything else, i make it up. and this technique is just the new thing i've been looking for. and this demo is the only way i could have learned it. well done

      To play minor chords, every note stays the same except for the third of each respective chord. So for the C chord play E flat instead of E. For the F chord play A flat instead of A.

  • @moo639
    @moo639 2 года назад +1

    Since neither of these chords is dominant, it's helpful to know that they represent I and IV major seventh chords in the key of C.

    • @blmus
      @blmus 2 года назад

      so I was wondering. Assuming this is all in C, wouldn't it be simpler to say this is a IV major and then III minor progression? F major and E minor? When he uses the 7 and 2 terminology that's confusing because it's saying you're using 2 keys to play in, but that's not really what's happening I don't think. I think the chord shapes part was helpful but the theory was offputting

    Jonny, this is great stuff. As I was thinking about this, these chords look like inversions of C Add4 and G Add4. These would be the 1 and 5 chords of the key of C. These are also the notes you appear to be playing with your right hand. This seemed like a simpler way to remember the notes. Thoughts?
