The kitty is like the most viable monster unit... Having it follow around another unit to try throwing fights last onto something the unit is trying to engage is devastating.
I want those "pledges" to all be good, and not "just bring Nurgle." And I want this army to be more diverse than just Belakor, 9 varanguard and some furies. The return of the dark apothesis, the banners, the Legion of the First Prince return out of left field so I could rank bloodletters side by side with mortal chaos devotees... It feels like "Timmy" is back in S2D, which I thought it lacked with the index!
@@Scarycrow89 Pledge to Chaos makes sure the reinforced killer units will remain in the game, so i wouldn’t have much hope there. LotFP will be a nice fluff army :) as are all armies of renown
Ya exactly. I love seeing the OBVIOUS interactions that should've always been more present in the game come, like negating Crits. Slanesh Mark feels very good. Maybe it's a sign of things to come for the Slanesh army and they will also somehow have access to it. I like the new mechanics, I'm sure we'll see some warscroll changes as well. Excited to see.
this makes me sad when i think of my skaven book, but gives me hope that maybe ogors will have more thought put in than just "hurr durr mortal wounds on the charge!"
I just started playing AoS and my first AoS army is the StD. I like the changes to the marks as at the moment it seems to be just bring Nurgle or Khorne on knights however I absolutely hate that the base rule of the army is now completely different. I don't want to have to go out and buy and paint an expensive model that's not even part of my main army for my faction rule to work. So for the foreseeable future my StD army just doesn't have a faction rule. I'm actually just going to play the index rules over the battletome at this point.
Been playing Slaves since 2nd edition and play against them a lot now--i want to see the 3+ armor lot keep their power but to bring stuff like Theradons, Fomoroids and especially Darkoath up to par.
I'm glad for the banners back! Pledges seem really good, and getting the buff for the rest of the battle seems bonkers good. Limiting it to one pledge per unit makes it more reasonable, but 3d6 charge and +1 attack are both very good. Making Eye of the Gods terrible again is a bummer though. Maybe the Demon Prince will actually be decent and we can run him without feeling embarrassed.
That's kind of too bad. I have Warshrine and Soul Grinder. The Warshrine, I like the model a lot. I was going to answer your first question about what I'd like to see in this book, and the answer that came to my mind was ' A useful Warshrine'
As a S2D player and played against, I really like those changes, can’t wait to see the synergies and all! My only concern is: Will Tzeentch be playable as a God patron or will he suck’s again? I’m king of tired to pay for the 2nd Ed Tzeentch abusive +1 to save.
Pledges being once per turn may sound like a downgrade, and rather than giving marks during list buildings does have a positive, is that you can give the Pledge depending on the situation and Slaanesh/Khorne are more viable than their marks are, very interesting to see how this goes. Not to mention that there may be ways to have 2 or more units getting pledges ( Daemon Prince comes to mind ) The banners giving additional bonus is also interesting as Varangards do not have a banner but Chosen does, making Varangards less auto-take. I heard a lot of complaining but from my end I'm excited to see those changes and we don't know all the rules yet, so I'm positive about this.
I'm happy for the S2D crowd to get new rules and stuff. But man as a SCE player it feels so bad knowing that everyone else gets flavourful new rules and we are stuck with what's essentially just our index for this whole edition...
Hope the new rules make the darkoath a bit more playable. I do like the idea of a low tier hero achieving apotheosis but I can see myself spending 12 months list building to set this up and always somehow just failing.
the change from marks to pledges is interesting, I wonder what they are gonna do with that. I am a bit disappointed by the new eye of the Gods rule, but a lot depends on how usable a demon prince is. Speaking of, unless Varangard knights and demon princes change a lot on their profiles then the first thing I thought of was a Demon prince of Slannesh a 10 block of knights with the slannesh banner and a 6 block of Varangard who you mark slannesh turn one. you then have three incredibly hitty hammer units that can fly across the board and 3d6 charge into the enemy.
One of lists was 8 units including 2 daemon princes and 3 pledges between them feels bad… buuuuut with reinforcing I can get it to 2 DPs and 3 units, a banner giving 1 a pledge and the other two getting 1 turn 1 and turn 2… This will definitely push me to taking a few big units rather than a many smaller ones… I wonder how subfactions will alter this, maybe a subfaction for the wheel of value, or Bel’ and DPs handing out pledges… will be interesting
Before I watch the video here are my 2 cents: it would be great if they get something signature for their troops which feels a bit more suited than "we all have really good saves, fight twice and crit Mortals on our models - besides, we can also be fast if one puts us on a horse"
Slaves getting hit with a massive genocide for edition launch followed by another one for their book (as an "early" book faction) is devastating for me but... The rest of this preview has me screaming with joy.
Isn’t the slaanesh banner basically the same from 3rd edition? As a fairly long time slaves player I liked the new eye of the gods table from the initial index and now they have just got rid of it and basically turned it into let’s get a daemon prince in turn 3. It felt nice to be able to roll for destroying a unit with your unit and actually gain something for it. Or not depending on the dice roll. Also making pledge khorne equal an extra attack regardless of if you charge or not probably makes it a lot of armies auto include for damage output now
For some time now, losing warscrolls makes me more frustrated than getting new units makes me exited. So, it's a net loss for me. Eventually so many of my models will be invalidated that I don't even have to bother staying up to date with new battletomes.
So its looking like army rules got a lot worse in terms of mechanical power for a slight bump in mechanical flexibility. We also lost some of the warscrolls with potential for giving the army actual flexibility and gameplan pivots. I always thought EotG was cool because it was your dudes piling up a bunch of boons by wheeling and dealing to keep winning. Now we lock in and ride with a single god at the safest rate possible. Hope all the Warscrolls are absolute fire, because this feels like a very punishing tome.
so by losing the Warshrine, was this StD's only access to a Priest unit??? I understand that this model is somewhat older and seems destined for ToW relegation, but I kind of wanted to try this with a full Darkoath army. Maybe the idea of a center piece model like a Chaos Mammoth shrine will come back to into AoS now?? would be so cool
Bring back cabalists or at least make the daemon prince a wizard 1 and/or the sorceror lord a bonus hero for drops! I dont wanna be forced to take belakor to have more than 1 cast unless i only take sorceror lords and not the other awesome heroes.
Been playing StD since their first book in V2 This reveal is mostly a throwback to V3 rules. Ensorcelled Banner is basically the same concept. Okay Pledge to Chaos is the new Mark of Chaos. More versatile but slower. Okay New Eye of the Gods + Dark Apotheosis is straight out the monkey’s ass steaming pile of 💩 This change is almost offensive. Worse in every single metric. I am baffled. Curious about Legion of the First Prince.
As a S2D main, this doesn't give me a fuzzy feeling yet. I don't like the EotG changes, they should've kept it the same and just made it only heroes. If things don't change for the better, I'm probably shelving S2D for AoS4. Feels bad so far.
im playing slave since v3 and the change v4 were subtencial but fair diférente way to play the regiments (first prince legion, despoiler ect...)but i feel that change is a big nerf ,i honestly wait for a review of that bt see if it's worth buy it even putting away this army, for now to maybe the next version!
Going to have to wait impatiently for 2 weeks now for them to have more clarification on how it all works. Though I can see this being kinda fun i f you were playing Path to Glory and stick it on your little hero making his way through the story.
From games I've e played against belakor varanguard players, this doesn't seem to change much because chosen and varanguard are doing all the work anyways. I feel like you can still use that play style, so I dont imagine them changing their lists much. We will see how this goes with the rest of the book though.
The two first army books/codexes are always garbage. It is the launch box curse. I think those rules are written very early in the process, so they can get printed for the launch box.
I had a fairly large Slaves to Darkness force (around 8k points). AOS4 invalidated around 100 of my minis. I dropped the army then and haven't looked back. I didn't understand their choices then and don't understand them now.
Main thing i'd like to see is meaningful subfactions, the index battle formations are uninspired and lame. The new EotG they're describing is more like it used to be, and worse than the index by a mile. Jury's still out, but at least with EotG i think theyre throwing out the best change the index had.
As someone just getting into Slaves… I just want the cool fringe stuff to be more viable, I love the evil kitty for example
Yeah I want the monsters/beasts to be better and the DarkOath
the kitty is perfectly fine, itll only ever lose viability if they change its ability
The kitty is like the most viable monster unit... Having it follow around another unit to try throwing fights last onto something the unit is trying to engage is devastating.

They didn't even get that part right cause their whole battle trait for that is just the shit D3 roll that a bunch of calvary units already have

I'm just excited they're finally releasing Abraxia as a solo model.
You should be able to pledge to the Great Horned Rat now!
In lore I think if you ever pledge the Great Horned Rat you just instantly turn into a skaven
@@alphamav3rickgaming Look up "Cult of the Yellow Fang".
My thought was to lock that to armies led by Archaon just because he knows it upsets The Big Four, and THAT brings him a scintilla of joy.
Been playing Slaves since 2nd edition and play against them a lot now--i want to see the 3+ armor lot keep their power but to bring stuff like Theradons, Fomoroids and especially Darkoath up to par.

I'm playing the war shrine this weekend lol
Haaa

I’m hoping for someone to be a priest and pray some marks or apotheosis points.
I want to see Archaon become more viable in the future. Right now he feels overpriced just to be overshadowed by Bel'akor.
I'd love for them to redo the old on horseback model, instead of the giant dragon statue he is now.
As a S2D player and played against, I really like those changes, can’t wait to see the synergies and all! My only concern is: Will Tzeentch be playable as a God patron or will he suck’s again? I’m king of tired to pay for the 2nd Ed Tzeentch abusive +1 to save.

It feels a little weird that they're just the cavalry army, but maybe thats just me.
Wtf, I just painted my warshrine
Hope the new rules make the darkoath a bit more playable. I do like the idea of a low tier hero achieving apotheosis but I can see myself spending 12 months list building to set this up and always somehow just failing.

i do think that the banners are a bit strong the slanesh one giving pretty much two of the overall abilities

Would like to see fight twice go away
so does this mean the eye of the gods table is gone?
Yes
thats saddening

And then to find out the warshrine is removed from entirely

Thin down the ranges... on the armies that have anything to thin down. If Fyreslayers lose any units, they won't have an army.

Nope
Finally releasing Abraxia
