I modified the template from RBGuns to make the styrofoam mold, and love it. Show some love and check their work. :)*
Pls reply Hey grant i always love your videos They're always fun and awesome Even when they're dangerous you seem to make it look safe I hope one day I'll be like you, but anyways Keep up the good work :) Stay awesome...
See it sadly wouldn't work because if the trigger doesn't move so the pistons in the engine would not push and other parts would not work for other and longer reasons but good idea
***** It would fail. Aluminum isn't strong enough. Though I think you could create an all-aluminum engine, aluminum simply isn't resilient enough to stress or temperature. Also an aluminum frame would be weak. There's a reason cars aren't made in all aluminum.
***** They do make Engines out of almost entirely aluminum....they actually performe well when it comes to saving weight, but they have to be VERY well taken care of or they wear out quickly.
Three questions: 1. How intricate can you be with the foam models while keeping stability? 2. Can you use any glue to glue separate pieces together? 3. Can you use craft styro-foam from a hobby shop?
Awesome idea and results! Thanks so much also for the link! What adhesive did you use between the layers for the foam? Was just wondering what works best for vaporizing under the aluminium.
technically you could glue the styrofoam layers by melting them with really diluted acetone, but i really have no idea if this would even work, it's the first thing that popped into mind. Can someone confirm?
Davide Dopesick It'd be very difficult to do as even a tiny amount of acetone will destroy a huge volume of foam, and as the acetone flashes off it will set as a very high density compared to the surrounding material. On the other hand common PVA glue, hot glue and 2 part bonding resins will all work fine, so your local hardware store (or even supermarket) certainly has some good options to join your foam.
I love how people are saying "How dare you teach kids how to make guns!" And completely miss the parts of the forge and would most likely be out of their reach to actually do unless if they had parents that would help them out.
RanndomUndead Ironically enough, you also missed the part of, "A bucket of cement, half a fire extinguisher, and a blow dryer." After all, you need to make that forge too if you ever hope to even begin crafting these toys for yourself. :)
Well, I'm a blacksmith in hobby, just never played with aluminum or casting. I figure using my forge and casting ingots in heated cast iron bread pans I have would be smarter. I never agreed with his use of non-stick cookwear.
Better to just get something more solid aluminum than those soda cans. They are so thin that they tend to burn in the foundry rather than melt. Random aluminum chunks from the scrap yard cost next to nothing, use those :)
Anyone who has the equipment to make this should try making a lightsaber mould. You could then spraypaint parts of it black, leaving the ends aluminum, which would look awesome!
I used your guides to make family members some custom charms this last christmas and they turned out well (with some trial and error) Thanks for the videos!
+Poppy Outram or imagine casting real parts like real gun frame or lower reciever and all the parts then just sticking a real barrel on to it and there you go you got your self a real working gun...
john frank This gentleman knows what he's talking about. Aluminum is surprisingly light, especially when contrasted against similarly shaped objects made of other metals.
Sadly, I'd wager there are very few that would catch the reference. However, I see what you did there and raise you a "It's dangerous to go alone - take this!"
***** And just how did you gather that little gem? And do you mean the way I write, since I've done no talking at all? Please enlighten me. Enlighten the world with your uneducated brilliance.
I work in a steel foundry and we use this technique on certain castings. We have a 20 ton casting that uses a foam insert to create the mold. You pour the steel in and voila, 20 tons in the shape of Styrofoam
+Matsimus Gaming no he just finds project pages from other sites and reads their instructions. everything he does has been done by someone less popular on youtube. hes not dumb. definitely not a genious though lol
Well no, he plagiarizes from those less popular (who probably plagiarized from someone else). I prefer the people who say "I did some research from sources x, y and z and this is what I came up with." He is however very good at condensing a subject into a quick blurb anyone can follow.
Ha. I guess. I don't think the kind of aluminium being used is strong enough to be effectively used for a lower frame, and you definitely can't use aluminium for the slide. You would be better off using a strong steel. This technically isn't illegal either. You can make and manufacture your own gun without a serial number in your backyard if you want. America yay!
Wandelgart King Maybe. I don't know what level of hardness you need to make a proper gun frame. You wouldn't want to be doing any casting anyways. You would likely want to mill it out. Plus, you'll still need some steel parts. The lower frame is what is considered to be the gun anyways and it isn't illegal for you to make your own gun either.
+MrPsychopathicManiac hui It can be done, but if it's the first thing you've made using this method then there's lots of room for error. My first styrofoam casting didn't go well, and I made some mistakes and learned from them. So before you try making your diorama this way, I suggest that you try making some other objects this way to get some experience with it.

Sure. Forge it on your free anvil, in your free forge, and you're going to get a great hollow grind with those 30 dollar stones. Yes, you could get a sharp piece of metal that looks like a dagger, but I'm talking about a decent knife that an artisan would craft.
I'm not 100% sure, this guy should have at least had links for aluminum casting safety, I strongly recommend googling safety before you try this, I'm just gonna but a $30 melter and probably spend more on safety gear
Most europeans call ot styrofoam, I call it polystyrene but I think its a generational thing since when my parents where young styrofoam was the pretty much the only brand of polystyrene

Next time on King of Random, we learn how to raise the dead.
WHAT WILL THE STYROSLICER DO TO YOUR HAND PLEASE TRY IT
how did he cut the handle off?
Probably with a hammer, I don't think it would be very tough.

This is lost faom casting, most engine blocks are made this way nowadays
+Rex Holes cool info thanks
+Fresc222 lost wax and 3d printed green sand.
+Rex Holes True, jewelers use wax and its called lost wax casting.
+Rex Holes totally opposite, none are.
Holy crap. I can make daggers
Nice dude
+MegaAwesome 23 out of aluminum? LOL you can buy a cheap dagger out of STEEL
+MegaAwesome 23 Absolutely, if you want to make a prop or toy. for a useable dagger expect to pay $400+, or $2000+ for the tools to make a decent one.
Sure. Forge it on your free anvil, in your free forge, and you're going to get a great hollow grind with those 30 dollar stones. Yes, you could get a sharp piece of metal that looks like a dagger, but I'm talking about a decent knife that an artisan would craft.
Also, you don't cast steel into a blade.
If you keep the ‘volcano’ bit of the items attached, you have a cool little statue!
Cool videos man, thanks.. :--) (*time to build a time machine!)
You actually shouldn't put water in the sand unless you want to possibly get molten aluminum exploding in your face.
+Dustin James Adams Thank you or the heads up!!
Wouldn't a light coating of water evaporate when the molten aluminum contacts it, but still give integrity to forming the funnel to pour into?
I'm not 100% sure, this guy should have at least had links for aluminum casting safety, I strongly recommend googling safety before you try this, I'm just gonna but a $30 melter and probably spend more on safety gear
+Dustin James Adams But you do have to remember you can put anything on google.
You see the video where the guy pours aluminum into a bobcat SKULL!?
TBTPortfolio nope
No but I want to now
So cool!! Thanks for the recommendation
Rest in peace, King. You truly were my inspiration growing up
Welp, time to make a sword using this technique. Maybe a maul as well. Oh, the ideas I'm getting!
Going through the comments only to find lotsa "How to get the bottom piece off?"
Really people ಠ_ಠ
Why do Americans call polystyrene "Styrofoam"? That's a brand name, and it's not ALL made by that company.
Its the go to name. Literally almost everyone in the world uses it. I haven't heard one person say that other word you used...
The Sinful Gamer I suppose it's like us Brits calling ALL vacuum cleaners "Hoover". :)
its the same aluminium americans call it aluminum
Most europeans call ot styrofoam, I call it polystyrene but I think its a generational thing since when my parents where young styrofoam was the pretty much the only brand of polystyrene
Or tissues "Kleenxes"
my mind has been blown... this is awesome!!!

Someone should make the magnum from halo.
TheNintroller YES
You aren't 'turning' the styrofoam into aluminum..... just replacing. correct me if im wrong
You are absolutely correct.
Actually burning the foam with very hot aluminum.
Isn't this just Sand casting?
No it's magic!
I waited all day for this
