Dear that country wasn't just for you! When a place is not for you, the universe will just be against you somehow! Just like the UK was not just for me! I had 2 masters degree from the UK! In 2012 and 2023. My husband as also been travelling to the UK for holiday since he was about 14. But somehow it just didn't work for us. Canada as been a better place for us! I think people need to understand that a place is good for someone doesn't mean is for you! Everyone's journey in life in different.

I moved from the UK to the US about 10 years ago and I prefer the US but both countries have their pros and cons so if you're happier in the UK and have your family etc then that's fine and what matters.
I think trying to live on $1800 in NYC is crazy lol, how did you do it?
About the social benefits in the UK, to me they only matter if you're low income. Sorry but the amount you get from universal credit, state pension etc is so low that it only makes a difference if you remain a low income earner in the UK with little to no savings.
The NHS is the main benefit in the UK to me, if you have good insurance in the US you get better care but you have the risk that your insurance is tied to your employer and you still have to pay with insurance etc. aside that I lived in the UK 13 years and in the US 10 years so far and I've made so much progress in the US compared to the UK.
Either way as you also said there pros and cons to both and you can be happy in the UK, don't mind Uncle telling you that you're naive 😂

Some people love to give unsolicited advice and project on others. Do not project your dreams, desires and fears on others. Just because you like something does not mean it will be for others. Wisdom will teach you that what’s for you is for you and what’s for others is for others. Just because someone does not choose the path you would choose does not always mean they are being naive or stupid. You will never know people’s entire plans and reasons why they gravitate to one option over another. Respect people’s decision, after all it is their lives not yours.
