Watching this interview has offered me a clearer perspective as to how Nigeria's political landscape operates (what some might call “politricking”) and why it will never, I repeat, never serve the interests of the collective. (Nigerians). The truth is, behind closed doors, the major parties negotiate and strategize amongst themselves to maintain power for the foreseeable future. In other words, they’re merely two sides of the same coin. The most cunning individuals within these parties are the ones who decide how power is distributed. It’s never about building a functional or prosperous nation. This explains why our corrupt leaders stash their money abroad; (Using every method known to man) they fully understand the destruction and havoc they’re leaving behind. (After spending so much, what do you expect) What I see is an individual solely pursuing their own “Emi Lo Kan” agenda. What’s even more concerning is the amount of support they manage to garner, which is currently fuelling the chaos being experienced. But honestly, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as it mirrors the mentality of the average Nigerian, me included. We’re all part of the “Emi Lo Kan” mindset. ("It's my turn" or just "waiting my turn"). This brand of politics should really be reserved for social clubs or student unions, as within the context of a nation, it only serves to benefit greedy, selfish, self-serving individuals leading to the destruction of a nation-state. Unfortunately, in Nigeria and Africa at large, we continue to produce these compromised and corrupt leaders, which is precisely why we remain struggling for relevance on the global stage. These are the same kinds of leaders who, centuries ago, sold our ancestors into slavery for material gains and temporary pleasures. As the saying goes, “The government you elect is the government you deserve.” We must either unite, act decisively, and elect credible selfless leaders, or face a future where we find ourselves living in an underdeveloped country, struggling for survival or reduced to working as beggars and slaves. I tire hmm!!

I think what happened between Wike and Fubara was the hand work of some external ambitious politicians. Wike was open and willing to support Fubara for his re-election but something happened. Politics as we all know is a game of compromise. The political structure in Rivers State as at then was to accommodate Fubara's political interest as well as that of Wike. Wike's interest is not in Rivers but at the national level. But when Fubara started dismantling the structure that was to accommodate their interests (Fubara and Wike) as masterminded by external forces, that to me I feel was the beginning of the problem. That structure I believe was their understanding. The structure will guarantee Fubara's re-election and Wike's national political interest. Removing the ladder after climbing particularly when it was designed to serve other interests was ill advised.
