I am an under bike kind of guy. It comes from 35 years of riding, at the start of mtb we learnt to let the bike dance under us and ride loose, we were the suspension. So my under bike is my pace rc627 hardtail and my over bike is a Transition Scout, which is still under bike by most peoples standards. My bikes are picked for their ability, to punch above their specs and blur genres. I will happily take either down double black diamonds or on a 50 mile xc ride. Great set of videos really enjoy them!
Thanks so much! The Transition Scout is an awesome bike. I've never gotten hands on the Pace RC627 though. It is pretty cool to have so many options out there.
Good question. I used to like the safety of overbiking but for my last bike I gambled with underbiking and got a Forbidden Druid V1 (although I did overfork it). I've never regretted it; although that bike is way more capable than its "trail" designation. Like riding a hard tail, it forced me to pick better lines and was allot more fun than my enduro bikes. Keep up the great content!
100% yeah there is definitely some protection in over biking, but if you’re aware and intentional it’s more a matter of riding in the style the bike is suited for. I was on the hardtail EMTB recently and the line choice was mentally overwhelming but it was also a fun challenge!
Moving to the Seattle area at the end of this month and just wanted to say thanks for all the videos! You've given me a good idea of a lot of places to ride at. Would love to ride with you at some point!
For sure man! Where are you moving from? I was just watching your vid on Trestle. You'll love it out here. My email is in my bio here if you want to connect when you're here. Cheers!
@@SDpov Honestly, if you ride the main areas around Seattle (Raging River, Tiger, Duthie, North Slope Capitol Forest, Port Angeles Dry Hill, Galbraith in Bellingham, and then honestly most of the higher elevation unsanctioned stuff) you'll be good. Tokul is incredible, but really the main winter spot and is lower elevation, so it gets pretty minimal traffic from May-ish to November-ish)
With how good the Spire rides the mellower stuff and absolutely handles everything else I’d take being overbiked in the PNW. If I lived in the Midwest or really anywhere outside of BC/PNW I’d take the underbiked option. I don’t always love the middle of the road bikes. They don’t anything great and I find them a bit boring to ride.
100% 100% ... I feel so at home on the Spire personally. The closest I feel to wishing I had a smaller bike is usually on Happy Hour hitting some of those tight turns, but even that is in a way just a fun challenge. (I want to try the hardtail EMTB on HH sometime)
@@sasquatchmtb Happy Hour was a trail I thought the Spire would suck on. I actually feel like it absolutely rips HH. Super happy with how the Spire rides the tight tech. The Spur prob does do a bit better there tho. Although it’s chunky enough I like the extra squish.
Back in the day I had a bunch of older bikes and not a great deal of trails to ride so when my duel suspension was out of action I'd take my hardtail out on some of the rougher trails to get a totally different experience. I'd be totally underbiked and would usually end up with flat tyre's 😂😂😂. But had a great time anyway

;)
haha my rule with tokul is to start riding the other places exclusively once past May 1st
It belongs to the blackberries now haha
I just had an urge to ride PNWHEEL though.
@@sasquatchmtb PNWheel does slap for sure
Moving to the Seattle area at the end of the month. Any other local expert tips on areas to avoid for overgrowth?! haha

I was just riding a hardtail emtb with 130mm travel fork down some rowdy trails and boy it is a different experience for sure!
How about properly biked?
Ride that fine line brother.
I prefer to be biked
@@sasquatchmtbYes being biked is ideal. I vote biked. 😂
