I've played both, and while I had fun with rivals, think I still like OW more. The gameplay design in marvel rivals is fun and fresh, but I also think the map and sound design in overwatch is still much better. I'll play both going forward, but I don't think this is going to supplant overwatch for me.
@@cheeziobodini I agree about the graphics looking cleaner and some parts of map design but don’t forget ow had numerous changes to maps that were quite dull that took a long time to change I.e gibraltar - I love the chaos that can happen on a marvel rivals map with destruction
Unironically I hope rivals does not kill overwatch, mainly due to the fact that marvel rivals is only as good as it is because it has to compete with overwatch, if it kills overwatch it will eventually become a new overwatch with lazy updates and little effort. But if overwatch survives and becomes a better game then marvel rivals has to become an even better game than it is now, giving us an amazing game to play.
This is essentially 'Overwatch bad, marvel rivals good because I said so.' You can 100% carry on your hero in overwatch at any rank no matter what role you play. Obviously there are characters that are a bit undertuned or overturned, but Marvel Rivals has that as well. All ages can enjoy overwatch as much as rivals, I don't see why they wouldn't. One thing that marvel rivals has over overwatch is existing ip
I dropped overwatch because of the clear greed of the company. When I first started playing you could get every skin in the game for free just by playing. Then they released “overwatch 2” which removed that and was basically an update to overwatch 1 where they screw the consumer over.
Yes, rivals will probably have its peak right now, its honey moon phase. While yes, only time will tell if it surely will "kill" overwatch, I still think many players will come back to ow in matter of time. Either rivals will dominate or will just fall down like paladins did.

@@CaseyGumball I completely forgot about that game - and I actually played a lot of it! Because I’m Australian it didn’t really hit our market well as much as US but yes I actually thought that game was cool tbh - just so hard to compete in the moba market

Amazing first video! 10th subscriber I think It would be nice if you did more videos when the game comes out. Info and stuff, update patch notes in the future etc. This is the best video that compares the two games. Congrats and I hope you grow along with the game 🙏
Its very hard to get people to move over permanently from a game they've invested thoudands of hours in, ir hundreds of dollars in. Sunk cost fallacy will keep OW alive.
I was a hardcore OW1 player back before they started going insane with the reworks and changing the characters base playstyles so often; I had like a solid 80% winrate with Sym 2.0 and then they butchered her and made her useless. Then Sombra. Then Tracer. After a while I just couldn't be bothered to figure out new ways to win on my favorite characters only to have all of my effort be made pointless by a single update or balance change. I really enjoy Marvel Rivals, I hope that things stay strong and a bit hammy because honestly? If someone ults you to death they either earned it or you don't know what their ultimate does, which means you're not playing the game seriously and shouldn't expect a lot of agency because you don't know much yet. Overwatch 2's monetization nonsense made me never even try it; $20 for a skin? are you insane Blizzard? I'm glad there's a new game to play that isn't hot garbage like OW2.
As much as I loved OW I just got so burnt out on it. I dont even like Marvel but this game looks polished, but more importantly it looks fun and fresh. Ill be there Friday!
I was never a big superhero fan but my friend and I talked about OW2's problems and he suggested the Marvel Rivals game. I watched all the trailers and loved the artstyle so I decided to play the game. I love it! So much fun. Maining Spidey and Venom.
This is such a ridiculous hottake. I jumped between them both this past weekend. They can coexist. 1st person squad shooter vs 3rd person squad shooter. Similar but very different in many ways. At least in overwatch they understand support mains need love too. Rivals got a long way to go with updates before it gets there.
I honestly believe it's too late for Overwatch.. it has been out for over 8 years which is just wild.. I think it has had its run and people were wanting another game to compete with it .. I am so pumped to play Marvels tomorrow !
@@OtisMarvelYou said in a other comment that they are like the same games, how are actually saying that people are burnt out of it? Rivals is just a much more modern and polished version of that game and like you already said a good competitor. This game, won't, in fact kill Overwatch. But it will definitely warm up Blizzards and Team 4s balls. Overwatch needed Rivals, but like I said it won't definitely die of it. I would wish more professionality from a channel like yours. Some takes are just pure hate speech and absolutely unprofessional, looking up some numbers would've been great too. I will show You an example: You said they are the same, again they aren't. And thats an objective thing Rivals has 3rd person, only open queue, destructable environments, is played on a 6v6 format, has team up abilities, no role passives or heal passives and very different built maps.... Dude its not even difficult to see and compare that, is it? I like Rivals it's a good game, really and I hate the things Blizzard has done to Overwatch, but your video really isn't good or professional, sorry and just looks like rage baiting/hate speech to me.
Will it? Unlikely, Overwatch has been around for a long time for 8 years and they say that especially Gundam evolution that died a year ago. This would be good competition to improve overwatch
gundam evolution was a joke of a game and it was very far fetched it would kill anything i would say this game will bring way more players in the long run
@@xlbthedemigod5662 I think marvel rivals has a much stronger foundation then gundam the reason OW stayed relevant for so long is because it’s the only game in its market - it really has nothing to compete with bar paladins and that says enough I think
Gundam felt more like a cod lobby with overwatch elements. It was tons of fun albeit jank, the characters were tons of fun Zaku 2 melee is what I dream of for a overwatch melee dps. The big thing that killed it was the devs announced they weren't going to continue work on it after a few months, the player base left literally overnight.
@@OtisMarvelthere’s also Valorant. But if Overwatch 2 is better than Val, then marvel rivals is just Overwatch but better in *every* way, then of course marvel rivals is the top dog of this genre after 2 days.
This game won't kill overwatch it will hurt it but overwatch has it own fans and the games play surprisingly diffrein overwatch is currently at its best and rivals will force blizzard to work harder and make a better game it won't kill it it will help it
@Thetophatrat I think the main part you said is “force blizzard to work harder” and that’s a scary thing to say because a company as big as blizzard should already be working at a maximum for such a well established game - I agree Overwatch will still remain technically but so many Overwatch streamers who were the head honchos of the game are already invested into marvel rivals (flats, necros, jay3) which is not a good sign.. again the future will tell all but marvel rivals is just a super fun solid game
I played a couple games of rivals. As much as I believe the competition to Overwatch will only create a better product in the future, I just don’t get the same feeling with rivals as I do with OW. The gun play just doesn’t feel impactful.
@@claridge7549 I get where you are coming from but the game has a different feel and I think the chaos in the game makes it more fun.. I see where your coming from though - I think the game will only getter better and smoother in time though and it’s already in a great spot
@@OtisMarvel The chaos is fun at the start because the game is new, overwatch 1 was the same way. Overwatch classic let us see how terribly balanced OW1 was at the start yet people enjoyed it at the time because everyone still sucked at the game and you could mess around tons of fun and broken abilities. I agree that Rivals already has a much better starting point and it definitely learned what not to do from overwatch's wonky balancing history, but IMO most of the fun right now comes from the novelty. I do think it'll surpass overwatch in the near future and I hope they keep improving the game but I don't think it will kill overwatch
Marvel Rivals will kill ow about the same time great value cream sandwiches kill oreos. The system requirements alone will be too much of a barrier to entry for a lot of people. Once the honeymoon phase wares off, people will start seeing all the flaws of rivals. People cried from the rooftops that xdefiant was the cod killer, and xdefiant is shutting down soon. The game has it's fun moments, but it's just going to be the game people play when the want a break from ow.
@@xIronwafflexx I think comparing marvel to xdefiant is a wild take - firstly xdefiant has no foundation prior to release .. marvels does and it’s in a completely different genre of game.. 6v6 hero payload shooters are at a minimum.. yet games like xdefiant are heavily saturated
@@OtisMarvel Xdefiant had Ubisoft IPs in it. R6, Splinter Cell and etc. About MR They need to fix their engine for me to launch game again. OW engine feels BUTTER SMOOTH. Very responsive, and can give stable 144 FPS even on shit PCs. MR is struggling to give stable 144 even on good PCs. While shooting in it feels like shooting Mei Icicles. It is too clunky, but has soo much movement. + Ultimates that just nuke an area dont help with perceived quality of a game. The only thing good is Arts and designs. The actual gameplay is shit
@nurikkulanbaev3628 bro overwatch aint gonna bow down to you for bootlicking it. MR feels fine idk wtf you on. haven't had any issues neither have any of my friends, no lag, no imput delay, runs really well. If "nuke ults" are an issue, literally just move/run away its not that hard. The game is fun even in competitive ranked currently. Not shitting on OW btw that game is fun too.
6:50 YEEEEEESSSS! Someone gets it. If the game gets too competitive it hurts the casual player base. That's exactly what happened with Overwatch, at least in my opinion, after it became "an e-sport" the game's quality started to decline
The one thing that over watch dose better it how clean and easy the maps are on the eyes marvels has really good and detailed maps but can be confusing for casuals games that play like twice a week
This is like saying fortnite will kill insert first person game here Use fortnite as the example because they're both in third person and you shoot things
I don't think Overwatch is going anywhere, but this may change Blizzard on how they go forward with content. Maybe they give us all the heroes free without jumping through hoops to unlock them. There is a lot that can be done to improve Overwatch and Marvel Rivals showed some things they could take from.
You should really take a look at the stats before talking. Even back when you made your comment OW2 had spiked down hard. Recently, it hit a milestone of 18k players at 6pm on a sunday lol
@@hardboiled2987 What stats? They have 33k as of 24 hours peak today which is pretty much the usual 24 hours average of OW2. Steam count is the only thing we can rely on when it comes to OW player count since we cannot see battlenet count. Also, Rivals peaked to almost 500k. OW2 never had 500k player count from steam. It is clear as day that the majority of those players came from another shooter outside OW2.
I always found paladins to be better than overwatch. so yeah, there have always been alternatives. It's simply the case that marvel ip is big enough that it could be sticky, and 'that' is what can kill overwatch
@@abeidiot I think paladins is a great game too nothing bad about but doesn’t compare to Overwatch in terms of graphics and lore wise / storyline’s etc. I think marvel is the in between we all needed .. it’s a mesh of paladins meets ow with a Fortnite esq graphic feel imo
Also you are right about OW is only for playing competitive. Even in casual, you feel like sht when you dont play certain meta hero, and they even force role queue on it so both team'll be the same no matter what
Hey I know this is a new channel but I just wanna say this video was really well put together and was really informative from someone who has never played overwatch. Hope your channel grows, man 🙏
It Will not kill overwatch, but it will reduce overwatch playerbase. Who ever thinks that Marvel Rivals will fail, clearly do not understand how good asian devs in listening their player which is lack in western devs
I was trying to pinpoint why I stopped feeling Overwatch after a while and I think subconsciously the "wokeness" is what put me off of it. It seems very forced and contrived. I still enjoy the game and play it, but nowhere near as much as I used to in the earlier years.
@obvv7714 "Wokeness" in this sense means trying to promote things that the fanbase on average doesn't agree with. Maybe research before you ASSume. I've been outside. Sounds like you need to grow up though.
I say this a good thing though to provide Overwatch another competitor to the hero shooter genre so maybe Blizzard will get a kick up the backside to their updates to the game and the way it's monetise. I like both games but Overwatch needs that motivation to improve the game with competition if the remaining devs trying to salvage it want to continue making money off it and keep the player base active.
I believe in PVP games we need updates as soon as possible in a week time if needed like in league of legends, overwatch is dying because the devs are taking too long to update the game and looks like is worse than it was in overwatch 1...
The thing is that nothing will honestly replace the world story and characters of overwatch for me. I dont play OW but I enjoy the story build from the sidelines... + never cared for marvel anyways... Except maybe wolverine...
I didn’t even have this much fun when I was playing overwatch one they really outdid themselves with Marvel rivals. I didn’t expect it to be as fun as it is.
My opinion is that Overwatch killed Overwatch. The monetization in Rivals is the nail in Overwatch's coffin though. A $5 battle pass that doesn't expire? Sure the skins are expensive, and with an IP like Marvel they have the weight to pull that off, but the pro-consumer nature of their battle pass is just... *chef's kiss*
Games great, however the game is already suffering from people malding in quick play. Ive hit Diamond in OW and Apex and i can honestly say this game is awesome and pure fun. People are entitled to play the game with whatever mentality. But this is the most casual pvp games ive played since team fortress 2. Lighten and have fun folks
we played a few rounds but got bored very quickly. Also it felt very cheap and mobile game like. I think this game is for the fortnite kids crowd. Superheros over gameplay.
A few rounds is basically learning 1-2 heroes if not only one.. doesn't feel like you can really enjoy a game if you only put it 30 mins into a game tbh but hope you enjoy whatever else you decide to play!
6:00 I don't get this opinion. The maps look fantastic, the royal palace especially looks phenomenal. The style is much cleaner and more comic-orientated and it works for a super hero/villain skirmish. Marvel Rivals nailed the aesthetic better than overwatch. I always hated the perfectly pristine metal that looks tacky. The maps are perfectly pristine which makes no sense as cities exposed to the elements, and all that. Thematically Overwatch is awful. You don't get this with Marvel Rivals, because the style is thematic.
@@jumpkicking I don’t think you can say marvel rivals nailed the aesthetic more then ow .. just remember marvel rivals released in 2024 and ow released in 2016 .. for a 2016 game ow is amazing in every facet.. I wouldn’t be going out of the way to say marvel rivals is better for 2024 game vs a game that released 8 years before it
@@OtisMarvel Overwatch's visuals are simply tacky. Everything is far too clean, the metallic elements on characters are glossy shiney, unblemished metal, every bit of metal on the maps are polished and shiney, despite the fact that thematically anything exposed to the air would be weathered. Metals would be weathered, as would half the perfectly pristine elements in the game's design. Characters have perfectly shiney metal that looks like plastic and no wear to them. I remember playing Mumbai and the street was utterly chrome, despite being an open air place, same for the Hollywood map. Even Junkrat's grenades, the metal on his wheel, and the textures on his clothes are far too pristine, the only element that has any wear is his face and his hair. It all doesn't feel right. For a fact it has no thematic to it. Unless it wants to look like some sterile plastic. It's the same issue I had with FFXIV, half the textures are far far too pristine. If you don't see it, you don't see it, but what ruined it for me was the fact it's too unclean, there's no wear, it's too plastic. It's not that the visuals are not clean and smooth... it's that it's TOO clean and smooth. It reminds me of the countless tacky sci-fi games where everything is shiney and there's nothing thematic. I get that a game is a game and they can take artistic liberty, but it's something that just doesn't look right and artistic design is no excuse for messing up thematic elements that are tied to reality. This is not a product of time, because 9 years prior to Overwatch was Team Fortress 2, that game has textures that are a mix of cell-shaded a almost painted look. There are imperfection to everything, sometimes in the form of what looks like brush strokes of paint on the matte texture, and it works to give it that simple, but painted design. The maps are grungey, because thematically a bunch of mercenaries fighting over gravel would be. Team Fortress 2 nailed it's thematic aesthetic. For all the fire, acid, explosions ect, in Overwatch there's just no "wear", no "corrosion". Even half of the character's skin is all shiney and it looks like they are plastic. It doesn't sit right with me. What they get right, they get right, but overall it just looks tacky... Marvel Rivals has wear on the maps, and the incredibly painted comic style suits it well. It doesn't feel tacky, because with the comic and painted style, you can see wear on some of the metallic elements. It's both incredibly bright and clean in terms of colours and rendering, but also there's painted wear on things and shading that makes it feel much more vibrant and down-to-Earth. It also lends to the feel because this painted style fits comic book characters well. The design scheme they went for really pops, it suits the narrative of comic book characters, and the metal elements have scratches, dints, rust, and wear to them. Just looking at Thor's hammer, where there is the circular bit on the top of the hammer head, there is some brown streaks to resemble rust or wear. For some characters the metal is painted like with captain America and given it's a high-tech piece, sure it's pretty pristine. Things can be pristine, but when everything is, it's just awful. Again looking at magneto, his armour is scratched and dinged to f***. The design for Marvel Rivals is phenomenal. It does the Ip some real justice. It looks incredible. Part of that is the fact it's a new game, but also that a game released in 2007 managed to nail their aesthetic.
Overwatch lost me when they switched to OW2. I’ve been playing Rivals the last few days and it reminds me so much of the early feel of OW classic. I hated how they went all in on the competitive side/trying to make money off the pro scene.
Your points about the balance and frequency of patches are purely emotionally driven and disingenuous. Overwatch 2 has experienced one of the most balanced eras in its history, with frequent updates and hotfixes addressing issues effectively. I also disagree with your statement that people only play Overwatch for the competitive mode. Overwatch is an incredibly casual-friendly game, with Quick Play and Arcade modes attracting significantly more players than competitive. Regarding your point about flankers, it ultimately comes down to game design. Overwatch flankers, such as Tracer and Genji, have some of the highest skill floors in the game. I agree that Overwatch places a greater emphasis on team play, but this doesn’t necessarily make Marvel Rivals a better game, as that judgment is purely subjective.
I personally believe that Overwatch and Marvel Rivals can coexist; healthy competition will benefit fans of both games. I understand that some may be disgruntled with Overwatch, but dismissing the game as soon as a competitor emerges is dishonest. I’m genuinely excited to see another company challenge Blizzard’s dominance. I prefer Overwatch’s art style and its incredibly polished gameplay and animations. NetEase has significant ground to cover in this regard, as Marvel Rivals suffers from clunky walking cycles and janky attack animations that lack both weight and wind-up. While they’re snappy, they don’t have any oomph.
frequent updates and hotfixes? do you know the main reason why the game flopped so hard.. I dont know how many hours you have in the game but generally people aren't on overwatch to play casual .. hence why PVE mode got cancelled on top of that. Flankers Comment I can agree with .. thanks for the support though and honestly good comments.. appreciate it!
@@OtisMarvel The frequent updates and hotfixes I mentioned refer specifically to Overwatch 2. I’ve invested around 1,200 hours into the game. In contrast, Overwatch 1 stagnated significantly due to mismanagement from executives and the development team being forced to work on a half-baked sequel. From my experience, I’ve known and observed many players who only log into Overwatch to enjoy Quick Play or participate in the current event, rather than engaging in ranked play. As for the PvE mode, it was unfortunately scrapped due to development challenges and an overly ambitious scope. While I hope Blizzard reconsiders this decision in the future, I personally never had much interest in PvE.
"From my experience, I’ve known and observed many players who only log into Overwatch to enjoy Quick Play or participate in the current event, rather than engaging in ranked play." The game was made for competitive, I think your comment above shows why the game is where it is..
Tried it for a few hours. It's fun but there's something about the polish, optimization and look of Overwatch that pulled me back to playing it. I don't see Rivals doing any kind of damage to OW2. Only Blizzard itself can kill the game.
They already did, it's dead in it's grave if you compare it's player numbers from launch / first two years of the game vs. now. I'm pretty sure they have like half the player base they once did.
I hate hero shooters and their self-fart-smelling characters, I hate competitive play, and I hate F2P/F2W. If a game can flip that all on its head, then somebody is doing something right. Next-level character designs, lore-embracing gameplay, a PvA.I. mode for a casual scrub to enjoy, and absolutely no gatcha. I got Baldur's Gate 3 a few days earlier. Was nice to get it for free, but Rivals was definitely worth the $50. If Lucasfilm signed-off on a Star Wars game in this exact vein, they'd have the most successful thing since The Old Republic at it height. But they won't😆
What do you mean?????? It's called season 0 because this season is shorter than a normal season only being 1 month and it is the starting season and the release phase of the game.
These are two different games. Rivals is faster paced with a larger roster of characters and gameplay elements. Overwatch plays a lot slower and methodical at times. Honestly, the ONLY thing that has been actively killing Overwatch is Overwatch.
I personally think Overwatchs combat is more engaging, and all together smoother, but then again this is my very first Third person shooter, so it could be I'm not use to it yet.
The combat feel on OW is certainly unparalelled, but I honestly gave it up to go play Paladins for a while just because the game was such a balancing nightmare and all of your skill expression can be wiped out with a single update. So glad I spent time practicing and getting better at one hero only for it to not matter at all because too many people whinged and the team changed their whole kit to something else e_e yay...
Marvel rivals is just the "new" thing. Like everything from Netflix to overwatch ...the game/apps changes with updates. 2025 is marvel's rival year, but 10 years from now, i bet marvel rivals will be offline and overwatch will still be around with a small loyal community. Everyone is mad at some of the decisions of blizzard, but give it time, they will be mad at rivals too
I think Overwatch needs a refresh. The fact they brought back the original Overwatch into the game trying to harp back to the good old days was nice however it didn't make me want to play lots. I think Blizzard needs to look forward not backwards. Some of the ideas were fine like the Push the Robot gamemodes however it was pretty similar to payload maps. I think some of the fan created gamemodes were more fun i.e Hide and Seek, McCree One Shot and Road Hog Hook Off. However to me Quickplay became pointless and Competitive became too samey and when you're being let down by poor teammates or people leaving midgame it just sucks. Now Marvel Rivals i think its a great idea but for it too last long term we are going to need a variety of gamemodes come out and i think patches need to be very minimal for characters. If people complain so what don't listen to people just hating on characters. Yes develop counters but don't ruin characters
I love this game but I do feel like the fact the fact that toxic people are already sinking into the game this early is not a good sign. I feel like unless NetEase cracks down on toxicity, the game is gonna eventually fall into the same place Overwatch 2 is in right now, and it’s gonna make people turn away from the game! I also will say the balancing is a bit rough, it seems like the game’s design philosophy is “Nobody’s broken because everyone is.” I don’t feel this is the best direction when it comes to balance considering overtuned heroes and strategies are what is killing Overwatch so it’s best to avoid that, I’d say maybe lower the damage values for certain characters and maybe tweak some of the movement abilities as they can feel a bit off at times! Other than those two criticisms, the art style, voice acting, and animations are incredible!!
You're always going to have toxic players in a hero shooter, the game is designed in a way that when players don't work together you have no chance of winning, so when you have most of the playerbase still learning the characters and many of whom have never played Overwatch, there's gonna be a big lack of teamplay and cohesion, which is extremely frustrating to a player who has already learned the game and just wants to start winning some games.
Basically every game that is popular with some type of comms have toxic people.. you can never not have toxic people because that is what our world contains.. especially over the internet.. some of the most popular games have toxic players - League, Valorant, Csgo, Dota 2, - it is what it is

@@SuperRamos619 people will move over eventually if they don’t do it straight away - the game is just way more fun

Didn't Blizzard already do enough damage to OW?
Nope, because overwatch 2 ps4 and xbox one players still exists.

Depends how you view engaging.. some games in overwatch I feel like I have wasted 30 minutes of my life.. and that happens a lot in that game!
The combat feel on OW is certainly unparalelled, but I honestly gave it up to go play Paladins for a while just because the game was such a balancing nightmare and all of your skill expression can be wiped out with a single update. Overwatch is a great game and quite different from Marvel Rivals, it’s much more competitive focused and first person it ain’t getting killed.
Marvel rivals is just the "new" thing. Like everything from Netflix to overwatch ...the game/apps changes with updates.
2025 is marvel's rival year, but 10 years from now, i bet marvel rivals will be offline and overwatch will still be around with a small loyal community.
Everyone is mad at some of the decisions of blizzard, but give it time, they will be mad at rivals too
Overwhelmingly negative.
how is it much different from marvel rivals.. curious to hear what is so different about it ? besides the way you view characters and enemies
This is exactly right!

Basically every game that is popular with some type of comms have toxic people.. you can never not have toxic people because that is what our world contains.. especially over the internet.. some of the most popular games have toxic players - League, Valorant, Csgo, Dota 2, - it is what it is
Man up and deal with em
It won't infact I think it won't even do anything to overwatch
I hope you are wrong I think greedy companies deserve to fall to motivate them to make their game better like Activision
agreed on this. Blizzard never listened to the fan base for OW
