Little known fact: the woman who did the "wherefore art thou Romeo" bit was Adriana Caselotti. The same woman who voiced Snow White in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

I just love that they hinted to the original book by putting the cabin in the background. The Tin Man had been building that cabin for a munchkin he had fell deeply in love with but the Munchkin's mother was a jerk to her daughter and treated her like a servant so she didn't want her to go and marry the tin man. So the mother went to this witch lady for help and the sorcerer cursed the axe to cut off his leg. After the axe did it's job the Tin Man just went to the Tinsmith and asked for his leg to be replaced with Tin, well when that evil mother heard of that she asked to have his other leg cut off. And then his arm. And then his body. Well you get the picture how it went. He ended up having all of his body replaced with Tin but the tinsmith forgot a heart. And the Tin Man became rusted because he was outside chopping trees for that cabin he was building the munchkin even though he was now completely made of tin.

Back then, whether it was Ed Sullivan, or Get Smart, or Laugh-in, we as a society all did TV watching at the same, and would talk about it at school ( or at the Watercooler at work I imagine ). Heart
When a man's an empty kettle he should be on his mettle,
    And yet I'm torn apart.
Just because I'm presumin' that I could be kind-a-human,
    If I only had heart.
I'd be tender - I'd be gentle and awful sentimental
    Regarding Love and Art.
I'd be friends with the sparrows ...
and the boys who shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart.
Picture me - a balcony. Above a voice sings low.
Wherefore art thou, Romeo? I hear a beat....
    How sweet.
Just to register emotion, jealousy - devotion,
    And really feel the part.
I could stay young and chipper
and I'd lock it with a zipper,
If I only had a heart.

Speaking of which, since I remember attending a stage production of this iconic musical twenty years ago...well, since the Tin Man ended up as such during that particular production I obviously experienced...I think it's safe to say why the Tin Man didn't mention his full backstory in his backstory on why he ended up as such in stark comparison to the source material. It was basically very the Production Code didn't allow it. In case you're wondering about the Production Code, it was a document that I realized in retrospect was meant to serve as a precursor to the MPAA ratings system...at least from what realized from my respective experiences since then.

The drink the Lion drank wasn't magical (the Wizard was a humbug, remember?), but there is a type of beverage known as "courage." 'Nuff said? The Scarecrow's "brain" was a mixture of bran and pins and needles packed into his head, then held in place with straw. The Wizard said to him, "Hereafter you will be a great man, for I have given you a lot of bran-new brains."

    • @kobyschechter8163
      @kobyschechter8163 16 дней назад

No. It was NOT good makeup. Jack Haley (Tin Man) was painted with aluminum paste and gave him chronic breathing problems for the rest of his life. Margaret Hamilton (wicked witch) was painted with COPPER BASED makeup, hence the green color. What took place on the set when the cameras weren’t rolling was very ugly.
