Dragons dogma 2 is rapidly becoming one of my favourite games of all time. I honestly cant believe this game is barely getting any flowers. The controversy over the microtransactions is ridiculous, its typical one use preorder bonus fluff that wont affect the game that much and is easily ignored. its far from the worst example in the industry and games with far more egregious monetisation dont get half this much heat for it. The game isnt perfect, it has performance issues, but for me its not even come close to ruining what is an absolutely spectacular, unique experience. I was a huge fan of the first game and the wait for the sequel was well worth it. Its everything i wanted it to be and then some.

It is getting a lot of flowers. That said, the game purposefully has an old school design and a good bit of jank. That’s part of the appeal for people, but it doesn’t change the fact it plays like a game designed during the PS3 era.
@@GamingOptimist I'm playing it and there are games with much more jank and bugs in this day and age that were given a pass. That shit isnt true whatsoever.
@@ohjay7612I think you misunderstand me. I love the game, I’m just saying I can see some reasons why people would be turned off by it. When I say jank I don’t mean the bugs or framerate. I mean things like the waiting on the bench being a doze off feature that fast forwards a few hours instead of pulling up a slider. I’m talking about the basic menu that’s that signature PS3/Xbox360 era brown. Things that make it feel more AA than AAA, more Greedfall than DA:I (I love Greedfall too btw). There really isn’t anything in this game that’s “next-gen”, to the point that if you put this game’s early hours next to the old one in front of a newbie, they’d probably think it’s more a remake than a sequel 12 years later. I wouldn’t change a thing about it, it’s amazing, but I think that makes it a hard sell for mainstream people or a GOTY.
@ohjay7612 not many that ive seen and i basically do nothing else but follow games media haha. Ill be shocked if its even nominated for goty at the game awards it seems to be so criminally overlooked atm

@rick330 well for one the actual campaign was fun and LOOKED great graphics wise also if you were saying solo can't really say it's the same fun factor I guess but me and my friends had a hell of first 2 months with that game...enough to cone back each time e a hero was added. Just wish they added at least more than robots to fight and 3 bosses at the time..But it literally made me want an Iron Man Game the way he played tbh.
Work as a doctor and my highlight of a shot weekend on call was this 75 year old guy that got admitted for pneumonia and all he cared about was being discharged as Dragons Dogma II came out that morning. Spent 40 mins chatting to them about games. I asked him about arthritis he said ‘ games keep his fingers nimble’
Witcher's strength as an open world was the side quests. Dragon's Dogma's strength is the systems that bring the landscape to life. The quests aren't what make this game, it's you and your band of freaks having an adventure that the game design forces to be your own. It's an anti- checklist game. It's as much of an anti ubi-soft formula open world game as you can get.
But that being said, would it be even BETTER if the main story was stronger? If it had been given more time to bake before release? Sure. Totally. But despite its flaws, this thing is a top tier game. An experience so unique and absolutely wild I can only hope other studios might aspire to match, if not surpass, in the future.
Recommended to anyone who enjoys bowling without bumpers.
I'm just gonna say it, Andy is the best out of the entire kindafunny cast. And that's not easy for me to do, it's like choosing my favorite child lol.

One of the best Gamescasts in a while, good job guys
It makes sense with how many massive games we got last year and even so far this year, many which are hundred hour JRPGs, that KF didn’t have enough time last episode to sit with Dragons Dogma 2. 3 months in and we’ve had Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragons Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, GranBlue Fantasy Relink, Unicorn Overload, etc etc.
I’m just glad KF has Andy to make sure these gems don’t get overlooked.
Andy is spot on. Last night after coming back from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (4/5!!), I took my party off to find a boy kidnapped by wolves. After that I found a guy who needed help with a troll, who then asked me to assist in the clearing of a cenotaph. Of course I'll help you, ser!
Like two hours later I was completely lost, following a path through two caverns, a forgotten castle, and finally a mountainside shrine. I took some pictures at the top of the long staircase up to the destination I didn't know I was journeying towards and then I saw... Her.
This game fucking RULES.
Sadly, I got so distracted by the open world and several epic battles that by the time I got to the cave, boy'd been eaten.

@@Shrewdy1 He's not bad but he's very biased and only has certain tastes that dont appeal to everyone. To an extent thats true of everyone but reviewers need to be able to say ' this isnt for me but objectively the games xyz', most of them dont do that.
@@ohjay7612 if you actually follow their reporting and reviews that's 100% not true. their entire angle as a company is that their reviews are personal to themselves and they say those exact words MOST of the time unless they're talking about games not performing well or being ugly graphically. Greg says that exact thing about stellar blade IN THIS VIDEO.
@@ohjay7612 That may be true, but tbh I would say you could make the same criticisms of Greg and especially Bless. Not saying Andy is faultless and there will be genres where he's just not into it so someone else would need to review - but in general I trust his coverage.
He articulates his points well and if he has an issue with an aspect of a game, he goes into detail why that is - not simply surface level generic criticism with no expansion of points, like you get from some.

I've been playing and enjoying the hell out of Rise of the Ronin. I know open worlds are fatiguing for many at this point, but this is some of the most fun I've had in one in years.
Same here. I cant for the life of me understand why reviews treated it that way. Im starting to see some weird biases every now and then that dont make sense to me.
that's how I feel about Dragon's Dogma 2, literally the best open world I've experienced since Elden Ring- for very different and unique reasons.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is AMAZING!! Gotta get past the early hours though before it really gets cracking
and off the main questline. if you just march one quest to the next you can play twenty hours while missing all the best parts of the game. Gotta get off the road and poke around.

@@MikeJones-wq7pg Nah, Baldur's Gate 3 has none of the mechanical trappings of a video game. It is just the exact same mechanics as the TTRPG (and even then it falls short, not even carrying all of those properly). Is Monopoly for PS4 a proper video game then? No it very clearly is not.
The world and mechanics of Dragon's Dogma is directly stated by all the designers to be Lord of the Rings, Dungeon's & Dragons (notably not Advanced Dungeons & Dragons where Baldur's Gate originates), The Neverending Story, Hellboy, Berserk, Fable II, Bethesda RPGs, and Grand Theft Auto V. Notice a distinct lack of Baldur's Gate?

Loving DD2, the frames are an issue, but the combat systems, the world, characters and everything else about it are almost exactly what ive been wanting! Also Dont buy microtransactions.

You guys have me in between for Stellar Blade now. I hate Soulslike so when Andy was talking about it in that way I immediately didn’t want to play it. But I love Devil May Cry so when they mention them then I’m intrigued. I’ll try the demo. Really hoping it isn’t Soulslike.

Alright I played the demo. So… yeah it’s a mix of DMC/Bayonetta with a little Soulslike shit. Combat is a mixture as well which isn’t terrible but would have liked more DMC style, no stamina bar!. There is rest *bonfire* stops where you take a rest and enemies respawn which is something I don’t like and it’s an element of Soulslike. There’s more story which is good. But yeah so far it’s okay to me and I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it. If it’s a Plus game and it’s free then maybe I’ll play it more.
@@TheSubZero187 Same, Im definitely going to get it but a bit bummed its more soulslike. The combat is kind of stiff and slow, I was really hoping for faster action but definitely still a buy for me.

Does anyone know if the difficulty for DD2 is similar to the original because I loved that one and was able to get through that. Only souls game I ever completed was Elden Ring but that is only because I was able to farm xp and get over powered. So where is difficulty on this one?
It's not that difficult, it's definitely more like the original DD in terms of difficulty. If you just explore the world, equip better skills and gear, and have some good pawns you will be fine!

For me it’s a bit easier than 1
Game starts out a bit tough but you get crazy op the longer you play / level up, like most games. The real difficulty is in how the systems are unforgiving, like you don't get a way to redo shit you fuck up. You fuck up, you live with it.
