Welcome back Legends! Im sorry the background video is a little janky. The original version of this got hit with more copyright claims than ive ever seen. Couldn't even get gifs through. The algorithm is so freaking weird sometimes.
Thanks for the upload, keep them coming. Because of a mix of your videos and my dad, I've been reading ALL of the Bolos books. Currently on number 5 though I did start on the Complete Bolo by Keith Laumer. Can't wait for your next video.
While I know the chance is very slim, I would like to propose the StarCraft siege tank. It’s full of weird things like too many tracks. Dual 80mm guns on the original and dual 90s on the updated.Doctrine issues of a MBT somehow also being your premier artillery and competes between a frontline and backline role. Using foam to replace entire tracks on the fly somehow. Little to no secondary armaments besides laying three mines that have a record of friendly fire.
To be honest the reason I love your channel is simply because you actually enjoy how absurd these machines are as you rip their designs apart, instead of acting smug and elevated.
Should totally watch this anime if you haven't. Heavy Object was an interesting anime take on future war-fare where its dominated by these huge Object monsters. It was believed that only Objects should engage Objects. But two soldiers one day changed the face of that military equation forever.
@@voin5371 i dont remember a lot of the anime, but they showed how a single object can deny a large ammount of airspace and aerial strikes were not an option, also objects have the firepower needed to engage icbm on the outer atmosphere. I might be misremembering this part, but i think one object got hit by a nuclear strike, and despite some minor malfuntions it continued on as normal
@@T0rrente18 In other words, anime armour logic, no dents, a slight inconvenience at best but unless the plot says so, they're bulletproof and all that.
I can believe it’s tough armor, 2cm x 500 layers is 10 meters of super armor, and given the weapon load out it can probably deny airspace to everything out to the horizon. It has good manuverability, can probably change facing on a dime. I could see vulnerabilities, but shutting down AirPower like that is a massive advantage.
So, couple if "facts" you're missing, which make the design a lot more "sensical": 1. it can level the main guns, BUT they are mainly designed to fight against other objects, hence you dan't need to aim at the ground. 2. The armor (going with your numbers 500x2) is at least 10 meters thick and capable of withstanding nukes, which is kind of the whole reason those things got used. 3. Weakpoints in the back become less of an issue, same with exposing the whole siluett, as these machines fight "like MMA-fighters", bringing the 500km/h to full use, while having two digit G-forces within the cockpit. Which btw is the reason only modified humans can control one of these things. 4. While the switching between a rail- and a coil gun doesn't really make sense (at least to me), all three fire modes (rail, coil, plasma) make use of electromagnetic fields within the canon, hence they actually "make sense" with some SiFi-Techno-Wizzardry.
The show does a good job explaining how the armor works, and indicating that power is transferred wirelessly, so all the weapons are stuck on the outside of the armor, without cutting holes in said armor. They never did explain where most the ammo is though...
Fun fact, NASA did in fact use the Metric System for the Apollo Program mostly due to the fact that Dr. Van Braun was in charge of the development of the Saturn V and preferred the Metric System in his calculations. Rather than force their best rocket scientist to relearn counter intuitive math, they just used Metric.
The armoured vehicles of 86 should be interesting to look through. Whilst still mecha, it's definitely a lot more plausible than this spherical monstrosity.
Holy shit heavy object is the franchise i least expected you to cover. Somehow i feel that these "ball" mechs make more sense than the stardard humanoid shaped mechs, anyways, its just anime fantasy stuff
With that height and a spherical hull (not to mention the main gun range) it should be fairly easy for enemy weapons to get direct hits, you just always aim centre regardless of facing! Great video as always dude!
@@ventilate4267 but Im not, you can find the centre of this thing from a tiny arc of silhouette in any direction so projectile weapons and missiles can easily be targeted for a direct hit even without proper los. A non round, normal size tank does not suffer any of this an only needs one good gun to take this guy out
@@MrConna6 I'm saying that anything that could 1. Get a direct hit wouldn't be strong enough to do anything. 2. Anything that could get a direct hit wouldn't get the chance 2.5. Anything that can get a direct hit would be staring down a machine that can move as fast as a bullet train It's kind of the same idea as trying to take on a warship with just a tank. Assuming you haven't seen the show id recommend searching "heavy object episode 1" here (ace possible channel) and watching the first 4 minutes. It's a good summary on the topic But I don't deny that these things are kinda stupid and have design oversight, but finding those are actually what the entire show is about.
So late to this video and its most likely said. But that thing can survive basically ANY normal conventional weaponry. I think this one is a mk 2 object? where when the fist object appeared the proto one [or mk1 idk can't remaber] IT COULD SURVIVE MULTIPLE NUCLEAR STRIKES. Its Armor is insane mix with over the top firepower. So ya... thats how i understood it. Thought i would include that for you.
Oh boy this is gonna be good. Id like what you think of some of Gundam vehicles, as i know some standard vehicles are in there, but specifically what you think of some of the Gundam/Tank hybrids that exist.
Good memories. The In-Universe lore is that you have a nuclear reactor entombed in an onion of armor, so it doesn't has ammo deposits since all it's weapons (minus the main guns) are energy based. And the armor itself has sections to conduct the energy from the reactor to the surface, but it still a rigid onion. These things can survive multiple direct hits by nukes. Yes, the guns can barely move, but the Object itself is insanely mobile, being a Stridsvagn 103 on super steroids. Moving the entire chasis to fire. B U T the very point of the anime was to prove that these Wonder Weapons were prone to defeat by Infantry, after years of stalemate, two soldiers re-invent combined arms warfare and figure out you can indeed use combined arms to attach the weak spots of the Objects.
Extra issues. Its super sized, su0er tall with hige amounts of upper mass and guns. So...effectively this thing is gonna end up on its side so so much..
Lore wise the object, is layered armor. Think like an onion with layer apon layer of armor with electronics bonded in it. Heck one took a nuke and still said F u to an navel fleet
Could just use special HESH rounds to turn the inside into that ticket machine from like Chucky Cheese or something, with the tickets being razors from the armor.
The video is good. But I got a niche It may be a lot of work but it would be cool to have your character do different poses depending on your mood. Like what you see in most RUclips channels. Of course that requires some more editing
If you want fun japanese tanks, take a look at the T08A2 from Ghost in the Shell. roughly the size of a Mause in terms of mass, but is essentily a spider..
That thing make Battle Mechs look positively practical. That big ball would last about 5 minutes in a real life war. That would be how long it'd take for the missiles to reach it after the enemy saw it looming on the horizon.
Nope, the PD on this thing is just stupid hard to penetrate, and anything that flies literally dies. You'll need something like an OGRE or Bolo to fight this damn thing.
The problem with your comment is that heavy object is so far gone in its sci-fi that the evasion speed of objects and amount of guns strapped to it basically forms a force field to normal weapons. The only thing that actually manages to take out an object (from the anime) is the "Lisolette/Break Carrier" and that thing itself is a monster.
It didn't help that in the anime a LOT of these monsters have been "terminated" by a pair of grunts..... Heavy Objects seems a copy of K. Lautmer's Bolos, and equally implausible, a missile strike from, f.e., Honor Harrington's starships, surely would suffice to destroy them.
The thing about Bolos isn't the weapons or chassis; it's their _BRAINS_ (most models of Bolo are AGI-driven monstrosities armed with the main armament of space BBs/BCs).

In the first episode, didn't a 0.5 mk take multiple nukes? If that's the case, it is definitely more than 2 meters in total.

You need to check your math: 2cm x 500 layers is 1000cm or 10m(meters) of whatever gundanium alloy they’re using.

The Bolo.MK33 should blast this spherical abomination of flawed engineering design back into the earth from which it was crafted from.
