  • In this video I show you how to block sand primer on this 1968 Camaro using homemade sanding blocks with 600 grit sandpaper. This is the method that I have used for 18 years, and it works very well!!! This process works well for sanding filler as well using coarser grit sandpaper. Once you learn the blocking process you can be more confident on getting super straight body work. I hope yall enjoy this video, please Subscribe, Like also Share out this video. Just want to say thank you that for the tip for the paint. Sticks. I actually had one and I put it against the side of my quarter panel right near the wheel arch and I've been blocked sending it and it's kind of tricky right there. So l ended up doing the tip you. Had explained about the paint stick and it showed me a couple of high spots. And so I thank you for your help.

    can you tell me all the grits you used from start to finish thanks

    • @ACDesignsGarage
      @ACDesignsGarage  2 года назад +4

      Yeah no problem, here are all the grits from start to finish 80, 180 ,320 ,600 wet. Here is the full process, we blasted the car then I 80 grit the car all over then put epoxy primer on, then started the body work. I would sand with 80 where I would put filler then block it with 80grit.next step before primer I block it with 180 grit. Next high build 2k primer it heavy then 180grit block then primer it again then 320 grit, next finally 600 wet lol. Thanks for the question!!!

    Great video. Can tell you spent the time on body work as smooth as that primer sands out. Do you just spray a single coat of 2K primer for the 180 grit then another single coat for 180 & 320 to finish? Thanks for taking the time to show your process.

      Thank you!! It usually works out that way. If you can get it straight with out cutting through the primer with the 180 you can do it all in one heavy coat, I prefer to hammer it heavy, block it as straight as I can get it then hammer another 2k on then 320 it then step up to 600 wet then go to a coat of sealersealer

    Hello sir. Appreciate the video. If you're answering questions, I got one for ya... I'm done with my body work and ready to spray the final coat of primer for finish sanding. Do you thin your final coat of primer? I can't imagine sanding it with 600. Did you say you started with 300?

    • @ACDesignsGarage
      @ACDesignsGarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the question!!! This is how I usually do all my body work/primer.#1 first coat of primer over raw body filler, I like to spray a light coat of flat black spray paint to use as the guide coat to show the lows and s ratches, I sand it with 180 grit on a block till its flat. #2 highbuild prime again, I cut the top off with 180 then switch to 320 grit dry on a block with guide coat till no imperfections show up.#3 highbuild prime the last time, I cut it with 320 dry just to get the peel out then use 400 to 600 wet on a block with guide coat to get all scratches out. Then shoot a coat of sealer then start painting. I usually never over reduce the primer. Sorry if this was to long, hope it helps!!!

      Thanks so much for the great reply! I have a follow up for ya- So I've got my final coat of urethane primer sanded to 400. In your opinion, how important is a "sealer" coat at this point? It must go on awfully smooth to not have a need to sand it before spraying base (I would imagine but have no clue). @@ACDesignsGarage
