For everyone complaining about the timing belt tensioner, just pull the retainer pin. To my knowledge from working on the 1.8T for years, the stock tensioners are all automatic. Some folks opt to swap for a manual tensioner since the automatic tensioner failure was the primary cause of timing failures, but that was usually because people waited until 100K miles to change the timing components. If you are one of the folks that want to set up a manual tensioner, you probably already know how to do it.
Outstanding. Thank you! This video combined with the ECS Tuning Ultimate Timing Belt Kit Installation Guide (ES#8146) will have you completely prepared for this job including setting the tensioner.
I like how you created more work space by not removing the front clip all together. I'm trying to put a new turbo on my A4. I think your method will prove to be most useful. Not unless you have an easier way to remove and install a turbo on a 1.8 t. Thank you.
The turbo on an A4 is easily accessible without removing the front of the car. I put a new turbo on mine last May and did it all without removing the front end. I know I'm responding to a year old comment but who knows this might be useful for someone. I did it all according to official Audi instructions (Elsawin).
My one recommendation for anyone doing this job is that they should probably fill up the coolant and make sure the car is running correctly in time before putting the bumper back on because if you happen to be off by a tooth it makes setting back up just a tad easier and less time wasted. Would also recommend taking the head/cover off and doing the cam chain tensioner while you are at it and just be in the habit of replacing those parts together every 60k miles or so. Overall this video plus "humblemechanics" 1.8t timing video together make the perfect video combo to do this job for anyone. Humble shows it from a pulled motor perspective but this video shows how to do it from an intact cars perspective which is how most people would do it. Nice strat with pulling the nose forward btw. Gonna have to remember that trick when I tackle this job during the summer
Good job! Great tricks like the draining thorugh the sensor or the radiator support locking. One question, does not the crankshaft have a mark that you can align with the block? It seems to me that the extension trick requires a very good visual skills. Thanks
Yes, there is a timing mark on the lower serpentine belt pulley on the crankshaft that lines up with a mark on the lower lower timing cover, but that Mark is kind a hard to find. It’s there though.
I don't see how you did that without having to disconnect the intercooler hose and lower radiator hose. Mine will not slide forward like that without taking those off
Is this a real question? How would you expect to do a timing job without removing the nose on an Audi? That's how you do it. Really an easy timing job compared to other models. .you have to pull off nose and hang AC and remove radiator and it's all right in front of you. His spark plug-TDC technique isn't necessary tho.
I was also watching in hopes of seeing how to set up the belt tensioner.. Written instructions included in the belt kit are quite confusing, even for a Mechanic.
An absolute pain in the ass. This car was a nightmare to work on when I had one in my experience. That was years ago and have since moved to a Toyota. I will never again own one of these ticking time bombs. Hard lesson learned.

So we just skip setting the tensioner? Arguably the most important part after lining up timing marks....
That's my question
That's the only reason I was watching the video :'(
@@fisqual agreed, this is a waste of time
ratchets and wrenches have good instructions about the tensioner on 1.8t passat, same engine.
Lol.... Don't worry about that.... You have to guess.... That's the whole point of doing an "instructional" video
Great video, thanks! The only thing I didn't see mentioned was the 8mm gap for the timing belt tensioner.

A full Tool list for videos like this would be awesome
Great trick with the bolts for the bumper cover never thought of that one!
Used this video to a T. Thank you so much! Worked like a charm!
best replacement video i have seen

Best video on timing belt change
Awesome video, did it to my a4 with minimal mechanical experience
This video is awesome, makes it seem like a can-do approach to DIY for those that like to do things. Great video, you are very knowledgeable.
Overall a good job, I use anti seize on the bumper bolts and radiator support bolts on re assembly.

the guy below me is right, you just said you were puttin the belt on, ..... you put it on like half way and then made the screen fade black 16:27
Best timing belt video on 1.8T on RUclips! I'm going to attempt it.
Great videos about the B5 and B6 man.hopefully u can provide us with more.tanx

Yes the crank also has a mark aligned with the line up top of it. Both marks will be aligned.

Thanks a lot guys! Helped me out a lot!
Good video, but I didn't see how you removed the tension for the timing belt
hello what is the tightening torque for the damper pulley and the accessory belt roller please on audi a4 b5 AEB? thank you
Sure made that bumper removal easy… clearly a reason why the video was cut at that point
So you skipped the entire tensioner part.....the important part cool
wish you did a step by step showing the entire install some stuff wasn’t filmed
Great in structural video. I am impressed and elated
Very very good and informative video.. the best out there!! 👋👋👋👋👌👌👌👌👌
What about all the torque specs? Good instructional video though.
Where can I find one of those assistants?!?
I don't see how you did that without having to disconnect the intercooler hose and lower radiator hose. Mine will not slide forward like that without taking those off
Why did you take the bumper off? and remove a spark plug?and move the radiator? Lot of extra work. No info on the tensioner.....removing,setting....

2004 A4 1.8t timing belt is fit on 2003 A4 1.8t ?
Only if the A4 belt is from the 2004 VIN with 8E-4-191 000 or earlier. Your belt should be 1590mm and the later 2004 ones were 1570mm.
Yes. 2002 through 2005 1.8 A4 all have same engine bud.
Muy chingon tu explicación Gracias me ahórrate mucho dinero
In your opinion what is the best cylinder head for a B6 A4 1.8T? Due to the fact I broke the belt, bent the valves need to rebuild...
BAM
BFB
AWT
Best head?? Lol: your old one. Just put new valves in Chuck. Easy.
So we just leave the relay roller loose in there? We just pretend it isn't there?
Idk if i would move engine backwards
How much is the cost the all this job?

~~~~~~~~~ Good morning! boss ! Can you show me the instruction video for Audi 2007Y A4 2.0 l T Timing Belt? Thank you.
Where in vt are you located?
you are teaching us to replace timing belt but you did not tell us how to set tension of the t belt
Never explained how to set the tensioner
