Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. An instant parallel I saw was Proximus walking up and not acknowledging anyone. Caesar ALWAYS made sure to acknowledge & touch each ape whenever he walked thru the masses. Very telling

To see Proximus twist and use Caesar's words, which were meant for good, for his own gain and have apes blindly follow him like some religious or cult figure is just disgusting. I'm already more intrigued to learn more of him.

Caesar would probably care more about how they treat each other. Intelligence is no good if it's being used for moral evils.

This feels ripped straight from the original movies, and I say that as the highest compliment.
Caesar did anything and everything for his ape family and he NEVER thought himself as a king.

I love the symbolism of the protagonist named Noa(h) walking towards a giant ark. And the lead ape being named Proximus Caesar (proxy meaning to act in substitute of someone else.)
Yep. Ceaser was basically the Apes Moses. I thought the protagonist's name being Noa this time around was an intresting choice.

The detail is just nuts! They even made spit come out of his mouth as he's talking. The personality. This is the first Planet of the Apes movie that I'm actually interested in seeing. The character development seems next level.
The 2011-2017 trilogy is a 3-movie-long deep dive into developing the fantastic character of Caesar, so it’s kind of wild to suggest you aren’t interested in seeing those!

They have built a strong foundation and now they are reaping the benefits of having done so. If they keep writing strong characters with compelling stories, this franchise could go on for years. I hope it does! Please keep going until finally we get to see that pointed spaceship crash land in the forbidden zone.

Its so weird seeing all the apes not doing sign language and speaking fluent english. They really are evolving. If this is a new trilogy, I'd imagine the one after that would be in the future, where they are fully evolved into their 1960s counter parts, like 100,000 years in the future.
If you also look they’re bodies are evolving, their facial structure is different and they have less hair on their body now

Hate to spoil it after 60 years but it’s nowhere near 100,000 years in the future and they don’t make it out past that point
It's like a couple centuries after the last new movie. Though it may look rushed, I buy into it. After all, apes evolving into human-like eloquent beings is purely fantastical and never conformed to evolution (their throats aren't built for human speech and I don't see why they'd evolve as such given increase in intelligence. Maybe they'd develop own vocal speech, but not mimick us perfectly.)
Planet of the Apes is sci fi with an underline in the fi side of things, still with the sci socio-political commentary that makes the franchise so special.
The team behind the movie said this would be the equivalent of the Ape's bronze age, so a bit left to go until we get the 1960 movie's time. I think they are trying to push into that goal of revisiting and remaking the original movie and I am stoked about it, can't wait till we get there.
I have mostly given up on Hollywood, but this franchise gives me hope. This is the one movie this summer that I am actually hyped for.

I love how we're seeing a further development of the apes' caste system, with the chimpanzees/bonobos being scientists and politicians, orangutans being clergy and gorillas being soldiers. Seeing the society from the original film evolve into itself is so awesome.

The feeling of this scene right here gave me goosebumps. I've watched this at least 10 times now. I wasn't sure about the movie until this clip. I'm sold.

Watched this in the theatres yesterday. All i can say is, it lived up to the expectations. Classic movies like this are rare nowadays. Excited for the next part.
Proxima Ceaser may not be the OG Ceaser, but you can't deny he has mad charisma and presence. *What a wonderful day!*
The original Ceaser was a peacemaker, compassionate, smart leader, that wanted a better life for his kind leading by example; love, community and compassion.
This pretender uses charisma, conquest, deceit, ambtion and fear in order to rule his kingdom. But I do like how he pays homage to Ceaser, which seems like most Apes don't know about in this generation.
I like how the main charecter and his two goons not even caring but just confused about whats happening makes them look tough they were probably thinking “this mf aint boss”
