早朝の月山の弥陀ヶ原では、雨の降りしきる中、池塘がまるで鏡のように空を映し、

この美しくも儚い光景は、一年のうち、高山植物が咲き、瑞々しい緑が広がる夏のひと時だけの貴重なものです。
雨がもたらす静寂と共に、この場所はその美しさと幽玄さを一層際立たせています。
霧が立ち込める弥陀ヶ原では、山肌を覆う草花や湿地が霞の中で柔らかに輝き、周囲の風景は次第に曖昧になっていきます。
霧に包まれたこの光景は、まるで現世と黄泉の国との境界に立っているかのような感覚を呼び起こし、見る者に異次元の静寂と深淵な美しさを感じさせます。
この月山弥陀ヶ原は、修験者たちが参詣のために通る道でもあります。
厳しい自然環境の中で自然との調和を探求し、魂を磨く修験者たちは、この神聖な地で生まれ変わりを目指すのです。
弥陀ヶ原（御田ヶ原）
月山の八合目に車を停め、そこから程近い弥陀ヶ原湿原には、整備された木道があります。
無量の池や池塘を含む自然の中をを約1時間ほどでゆったりと歩くことができ、御田原神社では、月山神社本宮を遥拝することができます。

In the early morning at Gassan’s Midagahara, as rain gently falls, the ponds reflect the sky like mirrors. The raindrops create gentle ripples across the serene water, a fleeting yet captivating scene. This delicate beauty is a rare sight that can only be witnessed during the brief summer season when alpine plants bloom and vibrant greenery covers the landscape. The rain enhances the tranquility of the area, highlighting its beauty and mysterious allure.
When mist blankets Midagahara, the grasses and flowers covering the mountain’s surface softly glow in the haze, and the surrounding scenery gradually fades into ambiguity. The misty view evokes a feeling of standing at the boundary between the present world and the afterlife, enveloping the viewer in an otherworldly silence and a profound sense of beauty.
This landscape of Mt. Gassan and Midagahara is also the path taken by Shugendo practitioners during their pilgrimages. In the face of harsh natural conditions, these practitioners seek to harmonize with nature and purify their spirits, aiming for spiritual rebirth in this sacred land.
Midagahara
After parking your car at the 8th station of Mt. Gassan, you can easily reach the Midagahara Wetlands, located nearby. Within the wetlands, well-maintained wooden paths allow you to take a leisurely walk through nature, passing by Muryou Pond and other small ponds, a journey that takes about an hour. At Midahara Shrine, you can offer prayers from a distance to the main shrine of Gassan Shrine at the summit.
