I have the Durston 1p and can't say enough good things about it. Also got my customized nitecore nu25 from litesmith, along with some small bottles for toting liquids like soap and olive oil.
Garage Grown Gear has a lot of UL stuff that you can find, all at one place. For those people who just can't go to Colorado and get a Melly - Burgeon Outdoors makes a great substitute (Maybe even better).
Justin Outdoors turned me onto Hoka's. Just got the Speedgoat 5s. Have two pairs of Merrells and they don't compare. Foxelli trekking poles for $39 bucks and Sasquatch Fuel is delicious their packages are biodegradable. And I feel like Nemo is one of the big names. Just ordered the Durston Kakwa 40.
@@alexterrel9594 I thought it was cool. I mean there's no actual store but I thought it was cool that Dan Durston decided to sell his gear through an Ohio company. It's definitely rad.
My input would be the Frogg Toggz Xtreme Lite rain jacket. It is more expensive than the FT UL rain jacket that is very popular, but it has a better fit, more adjustment features, better durability, and looks cooler
Here's one that I use. I'm not able to do much backpacking but I do a lot of camping. I bought the Mountain Laurel Designs DCF double ground sheet. It's expensive!!!! But I use it under my tent, I can use it cowboy tenting, I can use it as a emergency tarp, and I've used it as a sun shade. I know a lot of people use the polycro and tyvek but this thing is going to last forever.
My favorite 3 at the moment is my Enlightenment Equipment gear, love my quilt and torrid jacket, ect. The Durston X Mid2p, I’m 6’3 and there’s ton of room, very versatile, quick and easy setup. I toss and turn so my Big Agnes Rapide SL is the most comfortable sleep pad I’ve tried yet, gotta get good sleep!
I love Hokas, but find the sole wears out quickly. And agree 100% about Durston tents. I’ve had my xmid1p for 3 years now..might try his dynema version when released.
Nemo is such a great company. They really stand behind their products. They gave me a huge credit towards replacing a tent when the waterproofing failed. I also have a Disco sleeping bag that’s super comfortable and lightweight.
Stingers are totally the way to go. I had the continuous Ridgeline and it was a bit of a pain especially when the prusik knots would tighten up. Saw your first video of the stingers, got them and never looked back. After my last trip that rained the entire time, a trash compactor bag to keep my stuff dry is definitely a must have
I bought a continuous ridgeline for 1 tarp (over the hammock) and stingers for the other. I regret the continuous ridgeline purchase as it takes so much longer to set up. I’m going to purchase more stingers.
I feel like no one talks about Superior Wilderness Designs, and they should be! I have their long haul 50 pack and it’s a workhorse! My second trip with it was in -2 degree Fahrenheit temps, I carried 45lbs in it and it worked out great, and it’s super light! And they have so many options for customization! It’s a little overkill for 1-3 day summer trips, but for longer trips and deep winter trips it’s unstoppable!
I totally agree w/ to grill. Dutch has a cute to grill plate, but I carry a medium sized one. Pack out a frozen steak and it will be thawed out for camp.yummo
I have a few Mountainsmith backpacks that I absolutely love. Got both on sale for under $100 as well. I know Mountainsmith is a pretty big company that’s been around for awhile, but you don’t hear about them too often. Such great quality, lightweight bags though!
My favorite free standing double well backpacking tent that I never see. Slingfin Portal. You will be dry. You can sit up without hitting your head on the ceiling. It is very spacious 2 person tent. Not ultralight, but still in the range of backpacking tent. For ultralight tracking pole tent, I use the Slingfin Split Wing tarp tent system. US company, made overseas, but great, well made products.
You guys should try Mizuno!!! 100 year old Japanese company, but the shoes, WHOAAAAA!! Like I wear size 15.5 wide and they have them, wave horizon 3 😁. Omg the feel of the trail is like cheating I swear! You've got to at least try them
Speaking of food, Have you tried Costco's dehydrated emergency food for backpacking (Readywise)? I always see those big buckets and wonder if they are any good for backpacking.
Pronounced Hoka Oh ney Oh ney, Maori for " to fly over land". Thanks Andy for making the already hard to get speedgoats harder to get. Great video guys👍
I got my Speedgoats from Backcountry and they actually had the size and color I wanted. Also I think they dropped the One One and are just going by Hoka now. That's what I heard from someone.
Agree completely regarding the Hoka shoes! We’ve used them for about 4 years for running, hiking, backpacking, and everyday wear. Better than Brooks or Altra!!
Love it...thanks for sharing. I have/like my Nemo tent. Had the Tensor sleeping pad but switched to a Big Agnes Rapide due to thickness/comfort. Also have an UGQ quilt on order:)
Just looking at those Hokas made my feet feel cramped. As a tarp camper tying knots is not hard. If you're not doing it you are missing out. If you don't know how to tie a figure 8, bowline, marlin spike, and truckers hitch then you're missing out. That said the ZPacks linelock is vastly superior to the OG, why it's not the standard is beyond me. The Hillsound BTR is an underrated camp chair. It's cheaper, lighter, smaller, more stable, less likely to sink, easier to setup and pack up, and easier to get in and out of than the chair zero. It's not as comfortable, but sometimes that's okay and for those times it's great. I've used mine a lot just because it's so convenient.
Love my Hokas and Cascade Design trekking poles. Hyke and Byke tents are stupid heavy but the Eolus line of down sleeping bags are fantastic. I have two.
NearZero, I have thoroughly enjoyed their 2p tent and their based out of Arizona. Good guy. My giant dog ran through the fly trying to catch a football and I contacted the company to see about a replacement. I received multiple emails that was marked as spam and trashed. Decided to look and the owner himself had been trying to contact me multiple times. Then he just sent another fly free of charge. That's the best customer service I've had.
Great gear under appreciated, or mentioned elsewhere. 👍 I'll have to check out a few of these I've never heard of. Thank you Schill Brothers... Andy check out my "Ultra Heavy Birthday Backpacking Trip" video, I cook an amazing meal on a titanium grill... AMAZING MEAL
The most confy, put them on and forget about it shoes...What keeps them from being truly excellent is their traction is just ok, as well as the durability of their outsoles could be better, probably cos of lack of sufficient number of lugs.
Light Heart Gear rain jacket is phenomenal. Made in North Carolina, I believe. Doesn't breath, but is 100% waterproof. And let's face it, "breathable" fabrics are expensive and they don't breath. Super light and compactable. Good price point. Just buy it.
Enlightened Equipment Visp Rain Jacket. Look up the specs. Never have I ever seen a piece of gear so far out perform the big box brands than this garment. The breathability rating combined with the water proof rating is untouchable. Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR): 75,000 g/m²/24hr. Waterproof to 20,000mm H₂0. These stats are so crazy that its kind of hard to believe. On top of that its like 6 oz.... And no I dont work for enlighted equipment....
Honorable mention to Mountain Laurel Designs; especially their rain mitts.
I have the Durston 1p and can't say enough good things about it. Also got my customized nitecore nu25 from litesmith, along with some small bottles for toting liquids like soap and olive oil.
DO you guys even backpack anymore?😂
Garage Grown Gear has a lot of UL stuff that you can find, all at one place. For those people who just can't go to Colorado and get a Melly - Burgeon Outdoors makes a great substitute (Maybe even better).
when they're available. I picked up a grid beanie. the hoodies were sold out except burgundy.
I remember when Nemo was starting out and were making inflatable tents with no poles.
And Durston I selling his products through Kaviso out of Delaware Ohio. The are like Lightsmith or GGG.
@@natehoover5266 that’s rad, and local! Appreciate the info dude 🙌

Paria outdoors has some great budget gear. Highly recommend their trekking poles
I heard their quilt is pretty awesome too

I worked the Women's US Open last week and saw tons of Hokas. I've been rocking the Speedgoat for a few years now and they're by far my fave ever.
Speaking of food, Have you tried Costco's dehydrated emergency food for backpacking (Readywise)? I always see those big buckets and wonder if they are any good for backpacking.
Be sure to check out Durston Gear’s Kakwa 40 - awesome new Ultra pack for $250!

Western Mountaineering sleeping bags. Best bags made. Made in the USA.

I love the EE rain coat,
Great list guys! Hokas are on the radar!
Check out the Kuiu Peleton 97 hoodie, weighs under 6 ounces
I’ve ordered their Xmid pro2. Can’t wait.
I smiled during the food portion. My buddy and I usually eat ribeyes. Eggs and bacon in the morning of course.

I have the Drop Durston backpack. Also great Drop gloves. Drop seams really good.
SpeedGOATS!
Have you guys tried any gear from Exped?
Shoot I just jumped on the helium hype train
Hey, guys, check out our video from a couple weeks ago on the new durston 2p and a 2 year review on the 2p itself.
Why not post these company sites ?
Damn I just bought a helium II 🤣🤣

Except it's constantly unavailable.
Justin outdoors loves the one one speed goat
Isn’t Durston Canadian?
He sure is. He's selling his gear through Kaviso based in Delaware Ohio. An online retailer like GGG or Backcountry.
This is great information!
I don’t believe the Nemo Tensor is made in the US. It’s an American company. I own the Nemo Tensor and I love it.
Nemo tents are off shored.
Honorable mention: Doritos
Hoka's are far more durable than any Altra. I love Altra's, but they are screwing people on quality.
