I always thought the original tension on the string (from a finger on a fret) made the sound. I never would have thought secondary tension did anything. / I never would have imagined a second bow in a simultaneous pass could create a harmony when run on the same set of strings. I would say it's a game changer, but I can't play any instruments. Maybe for the musicians in the audience it's an eye opener.
MANY instrument manufacturing companies went out of Business through the Great Depression. Before that, there were hundreds of piano makers alone. By 1940, there were less than a dozen left really.
Because the music -> symphonies became more demanding and the range and volume of the instruments increased. That's why instruments like the transverse flute were made of metal and with many keys. Since then, the wooden flute with finger holes and of course the recorder are no longer in the orchestra.
Oh my goodness I've just found my new role model! I'm 22 and currently have about 16 instruments I think. Scrolling through your channel I can see what I want to be like in a few more years. Thank you!
Great job!!👍🏾 I've never ever seen or heard or experienced an instrument of this magnitude. I believe God Inspired that lady to gift you with "that big bag" of instruments because He Gifted you to share His magnificence in blessing the rest of us! Thank Him & thank you for sharing your unique talent 😊
Now that's just amazing! You sound like an a whole band of mountain fiddlers all by yourself! You're truly gifted by the LORD, both with these beautiful instruments and the talent and ability to make them sing!
...no 'LORD' had anything to do with our artist's acquiring and learning to play her instruments...why must you godgoofs always need to credit some imaginary, cloud-mafia boss for the products of real people's work and credit some imaginary, cloud mafia boss
You are amazing! I don’t usually watch music vids on RUclips, but I have watched six of your’s and am delighted. I thank you for taking the time to tell us about an instrument’s history before playing, it enriches the experience. I am not sure I will ever want to hear these carols any other way now. Thanks again for sharing 😊
That was remarkably good, especially with the extra bow! Wow! You may have just played that instrument in a way that no one else has done in human history! Can you imagine that? Awesome!
Holy Toledo, What a gorgeous three-part harmony sound with those special bows. It sounds like a bunch of jingle bells jingling along with it in addition to the wonderful music. “On Dasher, on Dancer”…etc.!
Incredible! A magical instrument fairy god-mother, a sorcerer double-bow maker, and music like never heard before, this video has it all! Thank you for sharing this magical story and instrument! 💐🎄💕
Thank you for sharing that unusual instrument and it's voice as Ive a few instruments like that but have not the no how to show them on line, Seasons Greetings to you and yours.🎶🌈😎
🫡😉🤍🕊🤍 As my musically gifted friends Adriane (piano and voice) and Helen (vibraphone and voice) used to say....Holy Wow! They have both Flown Up 🕊✨️🌈✨️ in the past year, and I've been missing their Sweet voices...but it feels like they are both here tonight, appreciating the flow of Grace that brought your wonderful videos and vintage🎻🎻📯🪗🥁 instruments to me. Thank you for encouraging a Reunion with my Dear Girls. 🕊🌲🌲🌲🪷🎄✨️🎇🌠🌌🌹🕯🩷💖🤍🕊🌲 May your fingers fly with love. 💖
I'll admit I clicked because i thought you had a really neat name, and I'm glad I did! Thank you for doing these, I'm going to have a good time exploring the rest of your videos!
@DeeDee Tibbits , wow , you have some fun instruments . I enjoyed the Navajo flute. And Austrian harp. We have a banjolin in the family . It is a mandolin sized banjo. I'm not sure how to fix tune or play it. The bridge is loose. It's seems really crazy but we may be related. Great maternal grandmother was a Tibbits from Kansas City Brothers Paul and Laffy Tibbits . We must be related to Captian Tibbits of the Enola Gay fame . His pilot's log book or diary is at the Smithsonian , I think Are you related to this famous Pilot also??
Goodness me, what a delightful Yuletide chance discovery you and your posts are. I must tell all my fellow folk music friends about you. The amazing American ingenuity of both inventing and adapting musical instruments for their own particular requirements deserves a book of its own. From simple plantation gourd banjo predecessor to the addition of the 5th drone string to Earl Scruggs, from back street mandolin buskers in Naples to Bill Munro and bluegrass. A whole great story waiting to be told. You are telling it in your own way through actual demonstrations. Bless you and Christmas greetings from Wiltshire in England.
Wasn't it great that companies made instruments for people to learn and enjoy, rather than apps to aimlessly watch? Your playing is wonderful, thanks for sharing.
I’ve seen some other instruments in this style, and holy cow, the double bow is SO COOL!!!! Reminds me of the double- or triple-mallet techniques on marimba. I think it really elevates the instrument into a lot more possibilities for application to more particular (as opposed to just recreational) music-making!! Great idea on your part, and great craftsmanship from your friend!!!
I have genuinely never heard one of these played.
Charm School..
Thanks .Blessings .Love Ya..
RUclips recommendation that doesn't disappoint. Thank you!
As a musician myself, i have to say, You are a treasure. Thank you for sharing your music and knowledge of music. You are an angel.
Wow, thank you!
Impressive lady!
You would be a joy to live with.
If a mountain dulcimer had a child with an autoharp, this would be it.
Ha Ha that’s true
@rebekahlouk8019 made U laugh 😃
What a unique instrument. The double bow was wonderful!
Another unique instrument, that Lady definitely gave it to the right person!
Thank you 😊
I guess the biggest question is why didn’t many of these instruments survive to our modern day orchestras? They all have such unique sounds.
MANY instrument manufacturing companies went out of
Business through the Great Depression. Before that, there were hundreds of piano makers alone. By 1940, there were less than a dozen left really.
These instruments are beautiful!!!! You play beautifully, and to know how to use these vintage instruments is very impressive!¡😊
Because the music -> symphonies became more demanding and the range and volume of the instruments increased. That's why instruments like the transverse flute were made of metal and with many keys. Since then, the wooden flute with finger holes and of course the recorder are no longer in the orchestra.
Someone needs to create an orchestra of many of these beautiful instruments.
Oh my goodness I've just found my new role model! I'm 22 and currently have about 16 instruments I think. Scrolling through your channel I can see what I want to be like in a few more years. Thank you!

Same!! I'm 28 and have 9 or 10... I'm so glad youtube recommended us her channel! She's just a star lol
16 different kinds of instruments or 16 of the same kind? I've got quite a few myself.
Fascinating! You can tune and play instruments I've never heard of!
23 with like 5, but making my way up there!!! Go team 💪
DeeDee please make merch (shirts, keychains, hats) I'm sure everyone would like to wear them and support your channel.
Wow, you have great knowledge 👍and skills. I wish you were my neighbor, growing up. 😀
Now that's just amazing! You sound like an a whole band of mountain fiddlers all by yourself! You're truly gifted by the LORD, both with these beautiful instruments and the talent and ability to make them sing!

My dad had a violin-uke! We messed around with it as children, but never proficiently. So great to actually hear one played!
Thank you 🎉this was interesting
You are amazing !!😮
Wow. You have just blown me away. Thanks so much
I love interesting instruments! I think we underestimate what beautiful kinds of music there were in more ancient times.
Merry Christmas from the UK for 2024 🎄🎆
It’s SO GREAT to hear from other countries🎁🎄
I was expecting Jingle Bells to be played on bells. Lol Beautiful playing!

You’re welcome! Thanks for your kind words!
This is so fascinating!
It reminds me of a shamasen but this is more shrill. A bowed dulcimer is nice too.
That was remarkably good, especially with the extra bow! Wow! You may have just played that instrument in a way that no one else has done in human history! Can you imagine that? Awesome!
I found her channel. Started at the top of the list and working my way down to the bottom of the list. My heart is warm and my face is smiling

I’m eagerly awaiting the Hurdy Gurdy episode
Sounds like an accordion and bagpipe mix. Thanks for sharing. I've never heard anything like it. It's beautiful

I love your hammered dulcimer playing, and your fun with other unusual vintage instruments.
This sounds very similar to a bowed psaltery.
It is….they just added the chord at the bottom, so you can have the accompaniment too🎶
Absolutely incredible! You are Amazing ! 💕
I'll admit I clicked because i thought you had a really neat name, and I'm glad I did! Thank you for doing these, I'm going to have a good time exploring the rest of your videos!

Okay, now I’m just filled with instrument envy!
This was great. Thank you!
Perhaps Julian and Sean Lennon, James McCartney, and Dhani Harrison could form a group and use some of your instruments, ma'am. 😊❤
Terrific!
