I'm very surprised to read that it's not so well known over there - I'd've thought it'd be very popular, given that it's originally Polish. PS just did a bit of resesrch, it was tra slated from the Polish and introduced to primary schools here in the UK in 1920, by Edith Margaret Gellibrand Reed.

This is one of my favorites, too. Such a delicious tune. It is in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Children's Songbook under the title "Stars Were Gleaming." The children love to sing it. It sounds so sweet on the hammered dulcimer!

This is my favourite hymn of all time, ever since my teacher, Mr Smythe, asked me to read it during a school assembly in the UK. I was 9 or 10 years old, and I'd never read to the whole school. Later I became a lay preacher, and we sang it many times. I believe it is a great description of what the Christian life is about. A few years ago I visited my daughter's church, when a group sang it. I burst into tears. One of the elders asked about why and I had to tell the church what it meant to me. I love your playing of this lovely old Irish hymn.
