Agreed. I stepped back from it in 2019, secret lairs and universe beyond were a bridge too far for me. It took a bit, but I came to terms and decided I still wanted to be on the playground. I started enjoying it on my terms, only engaging with new sets that resonate with me, only playing formats that spark joy. If you are anyone else is struggling to keep up with releases, stop trying to, take a break, explore the back catalog, build a budget Old School deck and just enjoy this game.

Yeah I remember 2015. Sets came out every 3-4 months. You got hyped. There were leaks. Enough hype to come back on pre release days. Boxes were only $100 with potential to hit something nice
Honestly its the game. I haven't bought anything in over 2 years. I have no interest in what they are doing with the universes beyond and a new set every month and rotating modern etc.
Yup. Rotating modern was the final nail for me. I stopped picking up new product when they spoiled MH2 and I saw that I again would need to update all my modern decks with new cards.. Today.. if I pick up any of my previous “Tournament ready” modern decks and bring them back up to tier1 it would cost between $200 - $500 depending on the deck. I’m all set on that. At this point with modern & legacy metas in the gutter and the money required to make any of my decks relevant again…. I’ve sadly given up on constructed play at a competitive level and accepted my fate… That I am now a commander player 😞. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way either.
I quit the day they announced mechanically unique Walking Dead cards. Yes, they have made them into in-universe cards now but we also have full mechanically unique off-IP sets so its not any better.
I'm a WARGAMER of about 60 years (mid-70s) - I started with little Green Soldiers in the sandbox and found Paper & Cardboard Wargames about 1960 or so - I've SPENT MY LIFE Collecting many Boxed Paper/Cardboard wargames (about a 1,000 or more) over my Lifetime on selves in my basement and I've NOW REALIZED I'm NOT PLAYING THEM & WE (people that do play them) ARE DYING OFF (fewer & fewer of US left alive that even CARE) !! YOUNGER PEOPLE are DOING OTHER THINGS, CARDS, COMPUTER GAMES, VIDEOS, etc. ? IF I live another 20 years I couldn't SELL everything OFF on EBAY ??? It's a STRANGE REALIZATION for me as those around me DIE and the rest of US still alive come along after and have to CLEAN OUT THEIR BASEMENTS ETC. ! :-(

I have 5 commander decks. Once in a while I will by a single or two and upgrade them. Thats the extent I pay into magic now. Has been for about 5 years. I miss the days of Theros and Khans where you would get one or two quality sets a year... good times that gave you time to enjoy drafting and playing a set. I have slowly been selling my reserve list and money cards as no doubt wizards will reprint them at some point to keep the growth in share values going up. The second Wizards let the secondary market influence what cards they printed it was the beginning of the end.
Hey, I'm an ex-subscriber of yours and I know what you're talking about. I was subbed for 4+ years but unsubbed 5-6 months ago because I lost interest in MTG as a whole. People haven’t been excited to buy Wizards product for a long time. Small hype bubbles have come and gone in the last few years occasionally, but things are just going to get more and more aggressive at selling “collectible” products.
@@behappy-d2z Unfortunately, Wizards can’t just *not* reprint anything without then engaging in power creep. New sets need cards in them one way or another. I just don’t think the current Hasbro trend of trying to push everyone into Collectors Boosters is going to be a viable long term strategy.
@@im7254 TBH, it’s never been a better time to be a Magic player. Tons of reprints makes access to singles to be extremely accessible with patience. The problem is when one is no longer a player, but collector. In this case, there’s no good argument to be buying newer product. Additional reprints will be coming, fancier special editions made, etc.

I started watching this two years before I bought my first MTG pack of LOTR. I’ve found large groups of friends getting into magic and collecting. What I’m seeing is a lot of vets out of my friends are giving them decks or helping them build decks with their bulk. I think it’s strong just we have soo much to choose from right now we don’t always need all the new stuff… unless you are me haha now send me my box I bought for $116
He did not say it was dying. He said we are in a downward market cycle for RUclips, etc. The metrics prove that out. The Prof’s views are down overall as well. The booster box game helps a lot. He has been shaping his content to keep numbers as high as he can. But overall engagement has trended down from two to three years ago.
How much truth is there see some boxes open that you dont know has been x-rayed? People will see through this facade. If you have a YT channel were you share something that you actually are good at. We can see a Robot cracking packs it will not br more interesting than speed 😂
Booster box game is literally gambling content. What hooks gamblers is the wait. Waiting for that second card in black Jack to flop over for the dealer. Every time I see videos like this, I always await for the person to finally acknowledge that they are the problem. That they have destroyed their own market of videos by doing the same nonsense over and over and OVER and old viewers are finally not caring and leaving and new ones are not coming to replace because they already don't care for the nonsense. And this video is no different. Just standard Rudy trying to pump stuff while passing blame on his decline to everything else except himself. Glad things never change.

Here's an engagement. I randomly stumbled into this Rudy guy while watching MTG-related videos, and stayed for the occasional oldfashioned life story or financial advice. I didn't care about Flesh and Blood at first, but after watching a few videos from the man and being exhausted by MTG's product releases, I took interest in the game and eventually moved away from MTG completely. Then Sorcery videos appeared and it really is a fun oldschool board game-ish TCG like advertised on this channel. People need to chill and take care of themselves instead of spending so much energy on being negative about stuff. TL;DR: I'm just a happy subscriber, bless your soul mate
also considering internet video watching is an indoor activity unless you're outside with your phone, videos get watched when the weather is bad. rain and snow is your friend, so expect viewership to go up during colder, rainier and snowier months. obviously don't get much snow in florida, but christmas, spring break and summer happen once a year. people have free time.

On the subject of your views being down -- RUclips has not been suggesting your videos as often as it used to. Their algorithm has clearly changed. I usually have to look for your new videos. Make of this anecdotal evidence what you will.
As someone who made his expanded to mtg from crypto and found his way here about 4 months ago, the current market attitude is also shared there. Maybe most highly speculative investments are in this state at the moment.
Started playing in 1999 urzas saga set. Best set Ever! haha all my basic lands in decks are from urzas saga. But i played from 1999-2003 and took a break until Lorwyn, and since Lorwyn ive gotten a booster box of about 80% of all the sets that came out since then. Love the game, but now a days all i buy is a bundle or two. Too many sets come out too fast and its hard to keep up.
As someone who runs multiple LCS/LGS’s we’ve noticed a general lack of interest in our area for CCG product, mainly due to over saturation of product and the economy not doing the best.
played in the early days, I tried getting back in as an adult, when kaladesh came out. Had fun for a few years, but the pace of expansions was honestly what turned me off of it. I think I'll sit on all my alphas and masterpieces, maybe it'll be worth something some day. (i have a nice alpha basic land collection)
The lesson I took from this video: Don't waist your effort trying to guild your balls. Be willing to have them kicked in over and over until they turn into diamonds.
One word: algorithm. Culture moves in waves and it's all heavily influenced by whatever the home page of RUclips, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, ect. feeds us. There has been a decline in people engaging and watching cardboard videos because a lot of it is repetitive, and the hype and conversation has died down as a result. That said, investment into the cardboard hobby remains strong. The people that drive the algorithm are not necessarily the ones that invest and drive the market. Most of the algorithm is driven by Timmies that want to consume the content for a period of time when it's "cool" until they're distracted by the next fad, then they move on to that thing. That's why you see this divergence in views versus investment.
Summer usually is slow for mtg. I feel the youtube scene is a bit disconnected on what topics to focus in but its because the culture of mtg is so vast. Rudy is finance, prof is state of game/products, others do edh gameplay shows and then theres arena vids as well as draft theory and deck tech vids. Oh also theres a mtg story so lore vids? Okay and lastly the increase in product volume and the successful marketing with other IP creating format changing cards.
I feel like many people are unable to find the right balance in the TCG collecting world. They are either hyperfocused on buying and collecting, spending all their money and resources on the hobby or not interested at all. Like there is no healthy middle ground.
I used to watch your multiple videos of yours every day, and past year or so has really dropped off. Not anything on your part, but just don't have the time or focus right now. Got a promotion at work and had to cut back drastically on my TCG ventures. Glad I found this video though, very informative as always, will always be a fan even if I don't keep as consistently as I had in the past.

Every time I see videos like this, I always await for the person to finally acknowledge that they are the problem. That they have destroyed their own market of videos by doing the same nonsense over and over and OVER and old viewers are finally not caring and leaving and new ones are not coming to replace because they already don't care for the nonsense. And this video is no different. Just standard Rudy trying to pump stuff while passing blame on his decline to everything else except himself. Glad things never change.

Here's an engagement. I randomly stumbled into this Rudy guy while watching MTG-related videos, and stayed for the occasional oldfashioned life story or financial advice. I didn't care about Flesh and Blood at first, but after watching a few videos from the man and being exhausted by MTG's product releases, I took interest in the game and eventually moved away from MTG completely. Then Sorcery videos appeared and it really is a fun oldschool board game-ish TCG like advertised on this channel. People need to chill and take care of themselves instead of spending so much energy on being negative about stuff.
TL;DR: I'm just a happy subscriber, bless your soul mate
also considering internet video watching is an indoor activity unless you're outside with your phone, videos get watched when the weather is bad. rain and snow is your friend, so expect viewership to go up during colder, rainier and snowier months. obviously don't get much snow in florida, but christmas, spring break and summer happen once a year. people have free time.

Started playing in 1999 urzas saga set. Best set Ever! haha all my basic lands in decks are from urzas saga. But i played from 1999-2003 and took a break until Lorwyn, and since Lorwyn ive gotten a booster box of about 80% of all the sets that came out since then. Love the game, but now a days all i buy is a bundle or two. Too many sets come out too fast and its hard to keep up.
As someone who runs multiple LCS/LGS’s we’ve noticed a general lack of interest in our area for CCG product, mainly due to over saturation of product and the economy not doing the best.
Market is sooooo saturated with YT videos of the same content. Hard to stand out.
Not to mention the everything bubble we’re currently in.
The lands in Karlov manor are very good and the sets with good lands tend to hold value well.

One word: algorithm. Culture moves in waves and it's all heavily influenced by whatever the home page of RUclips, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, ect. feeds us. There has been a decline in people engaging and watching cardboard videos because a lot of it is repetitive, and the hype and conversation has died down as a result. That said, investment into the cardboard hobby remains strong. The people that drive the algorithm are not necessarily the ones that invest and drive the market. Most of the algorithm is driven by Timmies that want to consume the content for a period of time when it's "cool" until they're distracted by the next fad, then they move on to that thing. That's why you see this divergence in views versus investment.
This all rings very true, personally I am drained staying up with all the new magic stuff. I have taken a step back.

Summer usually is slow for mtg.
I feel the youtube scene is a bit disconnected on what topics to focus in but its because the culture of mtg is so vast. Rudy is finance, prof is state of game/products, others do edh gameplay shows and then theres arena vids as well as draft theory and deck tech vids.
Oh also theres a mtg story so lore vids? Okay and lastly the increase in product volume and the successful marketing with other IP creating format changing cards.
As most businesses margins have collapsed. I talked to a guy the other day that was at 2cents on the dollar.
I feel like many people are unable to find the right balance in the TCG collecting world. They are either hyperfocused on buying and collecting, spending all their money and resources on the hobby or not interested at all. Like there is no healthy middle ground.

I used to watch your multiple videos of yours every day, and past year or so has really dropped off. Not anything on your part, but just don't have the time or focus right now. Got a promotion at work and had to cut back drastically on my TCG ventures.
