Here's a wild one. With 7 stones we see in the game (Zelda's stone is just Rauru's stone, due to time travel nonsense there's two of the same one. That still makes it 7 different stones that we see) , plus another possible three that would've been swallowed by the 3 elemental dragons, if all those dragon skeletons we see were once also people that swallowed a secret stone, that would get us at least 16 stones in total. At least 19 if you count the leviathans as just very different dragons due to their former selves being strange species. A lot either way if you ask me. What if, the secret stones were actually harvested, or refined from something that was harvested, from the dead dragons we see? Like with whales in real life. This would explain where the secret stones came from, on top of sort of explaining why swallowing a stone would turn you into a dragon.
i'm still holding out that they did this so they can add new misko dlc with other classic outfits, but i hope if they go that route, they also include a lore-centric dlc.
I think... Nintendo misse an opportunity to have a fight Demon Dragon Ganon with Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh, as well as, Zorlda, in a multiphase showdown against Dragons, with Link guiding their "mindlessness" ;) wouldve been SO EPIC, lol
I can only hope that we get more information about the Ancient Hero that is depicted in the Ancient Hero's Aspect and the Ancient Tapestry. It's possible that the Dragon Skeletons in the Depths were alive during the Ancient Hero's time.
Once again, in the stones of TotK, we see that magic is amoral, in that it doesn't take sides. Just as the Triforce, the very essence of the goddesses of Hyrule, don't inherently attach themselves to "Good" or "Evil," but whomever attains them (and, in the case of the Triforce, has these in balance).
I assumed dragon Zelda was smaller because she was very young in comparison to Ganondorf. Not to mention that, if you saw them in their normal forms, Ganondorf would easily dwarf her because she's quite small. Just a thought.
The dragons Naydra, Farosh, and Dinraal could be the Sages of Wind/Water, Lightning, and Fire draconified. Each dragon corresponds to a Sages elemental power. After their defeat with Ganondorf, the ancient sages could've swallowed their secret stones to fight Ganondorf in the distant future.
This may be possible, but consider the armor sets based off of these three dragons as they are clearly zonai in origin (at least the charged set based off its location and main story use)
Could be that the Leviathans sacrificed themselves to ensure the defeat of the Dark Dragons, thus leading to Sages of the springs swallowing their stones in order to fulfill the role the Leviathans once did.
The dark skeletons are not necessarily older than Rauru just because they contain Zonai chests; it's possible that the creatures swallowed the chests while alive.
While it's true that the Demon Dragon proves the dragons can be killed, lets not forget that after doing so, his body disintegrates to nothingness, leaving no bones behind, so I don't think we can assume the Dark Skeletons to be the same thing as him. What this might mean instead is that there may have been natural dragons akin to the dragon-forms that can be achieved by swallowing a secret stone, and when they are slayed they leave behind bones. Considering the dragon-like appearence of the Zonai, those dragons could even be their ancestors, and even if not they may somehow be connected to the origin of the secret stones, perhaps they are gathered from their remains.
I think the dragon skeleton we find in the depths were zonai that ate their secret stones. And since they couldn't control there power or caused destruction. Ending up wiping out most of the Zonai people. But the real question is when did they ban the eating the stones. Could be at different times it happened and slowly wiped them out. But the three dragons we see could be past Zonai priest that attained the highest level they were allowed to eat a certain stone.
In the Depths, there is a waterfall at the Wellspring of Courage. Behind it lies The Altar of Dracozu, a named location that doesnt appear on the map. What lore secrets lie here?
Given how big a theme synchronicity is in this game, maybe the dark skeletons are the remains of the current dragons, with some time travelling involved
We could always have a Majora's Mask like sequel taking place in another land related to the Zonai to explain away all the unanswered questions left in Tears of the Kingdom. A third game in another land _could_ work if done properly.
@@commonwealthrealm Agreed. dont get me wrong I love Botw and Totk to death but after 12 years of total waiting i'm ready for a new iteration of hyrule.
@@commonwealthrealm I don't know why people are conflating the waiting time with 'how long' we've experienced this iteration of Hyrule and Link. There's only been two games and the full scope of the story in this area hasn't been fully explored yet. It seems pretty clear that Nintendo intends to make this into a trilogy and they made it clear that open world is how they're going moving forward. Outside of zoomers not being able to sit still for more than five minutes and demanding new content, new visuals, new mechanics every game, there's zero reason to change everything up just for the sake of it.
Could you please cover what you think was the Forgotten Foundation prior to Ganondorf's sealing, why Ganondorf was sealed at one of the lowest points of the dephs (when he was only shown to have waged war on the surface) and why there are still Zonai ruins below the Imprisoning Chamber at the final jump down to the presumable heart of the world to Gloom's Lair? I have honesly never seen any video or thread that discusses this mystery and would very much enjoy to learn what others think about this.
Great theories! I'd love to see an ancient past game explain those original 3 dragons and their defeat. And how the goddesses became the 3 dragons we know and love today. (One bit of unsolicited feedback, my friend: when your voice pushes lower toward the end of your sentences, it gets very hard to hear you. When you remain in your normal tenor speaking voice, it's quite clear and pleasant to listen to! I'd encourage you not to push your voice down too low, and keep it higher where you have more resonance and power -- just a thought from a vocalist!)
The clothes could have also been placed in the giant skeletons' mouths by Rauru, who decided to help out Link and asked Zelda his clothing size or something. The clothes of the Wild fit Link more comfortably than the other outfits. It would not be hard to find some massive skeletons.
Here is an interesting idea about the differences in size between the Demon Dragon/Dark Dragon and the Light Dragon, Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra may be because of the goals they have in mind when consuming. The "Big dragons" may have done so in a lust for power, while the smaller dragons may have been pure at heart, and therefore being less menacing. This theory could also explain whey the "Big Dragons" are able to be defeated, because the bigger dragons with impure goals may end up breaking parts of their exterior and revealing weak points (and eventually the secret stone) that we see from the Demon Dragon.
The dark skeletons definitely appear dragon-like. The compendium refers to Naydra, Farosh, and Dinraal as spirits, could these skeletons be the remains of their original bodies? If these three spirits have ties to the Golden Goddesses(as some theorize) then the three dragons would also have ties to the spirit of the hero, explaining how the dark skeletons are associated with the Wilds set.
8:54 No not replaced the Tri-Force The Sacred Stones are a separate type of power source BOTW and TOTK are composite re-tellings of the Hero of Time legend If u look at BOTK as a kind of Prequel( for lack of a better word) And TOTK’s depths as a rendition of the Dark World( or Lowrule) It would make sense that a third installment would introduce the Sacred Realm and it is there that the Tri-Force will be introduced🤔
A lot of people have already pointed out that the demon dragon might just be bigger because of how big Ganondorf himself was, but I'd like to present another possibility: considering secret stones (when not eaten) amplify the power of the wielder, what if the way a secret stone turns one into a dragon is by taking the immortal power within the person, and turning it into a physical, draconic body, and therefor, the more power a person naturally possessed, the larger their dragon form. I mean, we know Ganondorf was so powerful with his secret stone that Rauru, Zelda, and 5 sages, all with their own secret stones, got utterly destroyed by Ganondorft (think of the math there: 1 Ganondorf + 1 secret stone is somehow > 5 sages + 1 princess with divine blood + and 1 king from a race compared to gods + 7 secret stone), so if the size of the dragon is based on the power of the individual, it makes sense that Ganon's dragon form would dwarf other dragons, especially Zelda's.
I believe a past incarnation of Link may have been allied with incarnations of the Oracles Din, Nayru, and Farore in order to save an older Hyrule from Draconified villains. By the end of their journey, the Oracles likely sacrificed themselves through Draconification. It's even possible the larger dragons could have been incarnations of General Onox and Veran, or perhaps Twinrova.
Given that one who would seek to become a dark dragon would likely not care about draconification being forbidden, we might surmise that one can accidentally become a dark dragon in the process. Someone might intend to do good, only to have their dark aspects take over as they lose themselves in the draconification process.
I wonder if the Leviathans, possibly the original deities that wielded the virtues of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, sacrificed themselves along with the assistance of the hero to defeat the dark dragons. This could be why they lay mirror to their fallen dark counterparts. Then, to fill the voids of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, three Zonai invidiuals underwent draconificaiton to become the new deities.
I cant say ive worked out this whole theory yet but Im under the impression that the dark serpents may have been the source of the secret stones. What if when an immortal dragon is killed their stone is left within thier body - Maybe this was another purpose of the Zonai Mines. This would almost make them like an ancient resource, a secret kept by those who discovered it. -- a hero could have defeated the dragons and left them to fossilize to then be discovered by others - or they were killed and their stones removed and eventually procured by the zonai.
not a theory, but a headcanon: Din, Farosh, and Naydra were the three oracles and became dragons to hide the whereabouts of each piece of the triforce as they're dragons, they can retain the knowledge but won't be able to share it.
My personal theory is that Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra were Zonai priestesses who sacrificed their mind and bodies to continue serving the three golden goddesses
If this theory is true, it could be that the currently living dragons were “made” for the purpose of killing the dark dragons (and possibly even the leviathan creatures on the surface), and now endlessly patrol both the surface and depths to ensure no new threats emerge. Similar to how Zelda sacrifices herself to become a dragon to help Link recover the master sword, and ultimately to kill dragon ganondorf, some ancient people may have decided it was worth the sacrifice to draconify themselves in order to stop the threat the dark dragons posed. I don’t know that we have any more evidence to support that specific interpretation beyond what you’ve laid out in this video, but it’s satisfying to me to at least have a *reason* for the three dragons’ existence. It’s a bummer the game never explicitly explored that in more detail.
I keep wondering why Dinraal, Naydra and Farosh didn't help during the final battle. I mean, were they just flying around Hyrule eating popcorn watching Link and Zelda struggle with Ganon? :/
None of those skeletons are draconified people. Secret stone dragons are immortal, they explode if they die, and they’re long noodles-not giant behemoths
I actually don't think the dragons are mindless beasts. Rather, it's more likely they're almost like gods or angels, possessing an intelligence that's completely incomprehensible to mortals. Why do they do what do? We wouldn't know. They don't think the same way we do. It's like how Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen loses all touch with his humanity after gaining his powers; he can no longer think the way normal humans can. In Zelda's case, her dragon form acts as a sort of guardian angel to Link.
I'm inserting a spoiler warning here because I apparently can't keep them contained in one spot, so spoilers abound. I thought, for a brief time, that Din, Nayru, and Farore had swallowed their respective pieces of the Triforce and that is where Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh came from and where the Triforce went. I don't think that anymore. I also used to think that the three goddesses were Zonai, or more likely proto-Zonai. I'm not sure yet if I still think they were proto-Zonai, but I no longer think they were "modern" Zonai. They may have been from an earlier species entirely. There is the whole "created the world" thing. Pardon me while I pull out my barely-remembered probably-no-longer-correct high school biology. They wouldn't have needed to swallow anything to achieve draconification, because if they had, they would have had to make it first. Why make something, then swallow it to become a more powerful entity if you're not going to have the mind to do anything of note once you do it, or the assurance that your inherent nature will guide your mindless existence to do it anyways? Crafting an entire universe would have used so much of the biological resources available to them that they probably draconified as a natural next step. Consciousness and sense of self as an emergent property of a sufficiently advanced brain is, in terms of biology, ridiculously expensive. (SPOILER!) The closest thing we see to a Hylia-dragon is Zelda, but she swallowed a secret stone and got so powered up by it she draconified. (END SPOILER) For the three goddesses to have powered DOWN to draconification after having made the world, and leave a physical trace of themselves (the Triforce) at the physical location their draconification took place, their power would have been amazing, and if I sit here and have a serious stab at trying to comprehend it, I start growing a headache. My hypothesis on why Hylia herself never draconified (see spoiler above for an aside, don't look if the current reader hasn't finished TOTK) is because not only did she never create a universe (it took 3, much as she rocks she's only 1), but her fundamental change was descent into a mortal existence; she gave up the part of her nature that was functionally immortal. There's no "dragon" there anymore to lose her sense of self to if she wanted. Going poetic here for a minute: With all the times Zelda's family has been nearly wiped out across the entire franchise, I'm tempted to say something about Hylia's right to draconification manifesting in the miraculous way they are never EVER wiped out of existence. The TOTK story may also be a closed time loop, but I don't know how to explain it without going into the "which came first, the chicken or the egg" thing.
That one image from BotW, of a Hero and a Zelda fighting a dragon. It looks a lot like Dragondorf tbh. Perhaps the legends about it are wrong, and it was one of these Dark Dragons that they fought, believing it to be the Calamity. They could've exuded Malice after all, that isn't unique to Ganon, it was mentioned in SS. That Hero could've possibly worn the Wild outfit, but changed to the Blue one, and his old Tunic was put down there with those dragon corpses in some superstitious way, as if the clothes he wore will keep the evil spirits at bay.
I'm thinking since the Zonia ritual of "dragonification" was forbidden, but not until a some time after it was discovered. Were these dragons that were from evil or malicious Zonia that had swallowed stones. Ones that King Raru And Miniru had to kill? It makes would seem that Raru wouldn't just have 4 sacred stoned laying around. What if the Zonia in question may have not been evil but just wanted immortality, but in turned either way turned the depths into a dark place. It used to be a thriving place with lavish groves and mines. So my theory is Raru destroyed the Dragons of the dept's (one may still be hidden *DLC) and took back the stones they had for safe keeping.
And even though the stone was destroyed on the dark dragon, Zelda still had her stone after Raru and Sonia brought her back with Links help. With that in mind being it looks similar to a dragon, what if the ancient hero's aspect armor was what the Hero of their times purpose was. To get the stones from the dragonafied Zonia.
During my entire playthrough of BotW I was calling Dinnrael and Farosh guys... Needless to say, it was obvious and I felt soooo stupid when the Goddess statues said they were all girls
I personally headcanon that The Depths are kind of at a point just outside of reality. It's traversable, you can take stuff in and out of it, but it's affected by spiritual influence and memories. That's my explanation for all the stuff from other Zelda canons being down there.
There are glooms hands in the depths of those islands to the right side as well (Tingle island?), so not just the skeletons, the castle and Deku area Edit: lmao I should have just watched 5 seconds more, you already cover this
I think the size difference in the light dragon and the demon dragon are not gendered. Zelda is smallest, because she was originally a hylian. Naydra, Farosh, and Dinraal, I believe were all Zonai, so they're bigger than Zelda, but smaller than Ganon. Ganon is biggest because he was a gerudo, and overall just a giant man. Even bigger than Rauru
could this be why the zonai are all dead by rauru's time a big war between savage zonai and more civilised ones like rauru with both sides resorting to dragonification it may explain all the large bones in places like gerudo desert. Ancient zonai dragon war dlc please

@@zephon6745 Yes that's the "pig-like bat" form i'm referring to. She's the "sister" of Onox yet she has a smaller body compared to her brother.
Interesting take, now I have to relook at these skeletons in more detail.
For that matter, it's kind of puzzling how most of Link's armor sets from BOTW got lost and scattered around in TOTK.
i'm still holding out that they did this so they can add new misko dlc with other classic outfits, but i hope if they go that route, they also include a lore-centric dlc.
Misko was a bandit. They might plunders link's wardrobe and hide it in various caves
Dont forget, each sage passed their secret stone on to their descendants. Cant pass on a stone you've swallowed to become a dragon.
Could be that the Leviathans sacrificed themselves to ensure the defeat of the Dark Dragons, thus leading to Sages of the springs swallowing their stones in order to fulfill the role the Leviathans once did.
Nice idea
DRAGONDORF oh my god
Perhaps the dark skeletons could be leviathans that went through dragonification which is why they are different to the leviathans yet different
3:21 LMAO TIME LAPSED NAYDRA IS JUST SO FUNNY
Hey, that is me! I’m glad my ramblings were able to contribute in some fashion. I enjoyed this theory.
I wonder if this lore has any actual depth.
I see the pun ;)
@@commonwealthrealm I am truly deplorable.
everyone kept calling it an ouroboros but it was clearly pisces/yin-yang. Glad you clarified.
I think the Zonai ver. of the dragons were probably not evil at all.
You forgot the gloom hands when you get to the end of tingle Islands in the depths.
I hope they make a third one that explores the triforce as the highest form of power
I think we need something brand new after this. All these years in this Hyrule with this Link is enough
@@javiervasquez625 True, you never really know with nintendo.
Could the depths be a destroyed Lorule? Like if the triforce hadn't been restored at the end of Link between worlds this is the result
No
Great theories!
Maybe the size of the one who consumes a secret stone influences how big the resulting dragon is?
3:22 I am dying from the naydra wiggle
This theory could also explain whey the "Big Dragons" are able to be defeated, because the bigger dragons with impure goals may end up breaking parts of their exterior and revealing weak points (and eventually the secret stone) that we see from the Demon Dragon.
bro gave a spoiler warning AFTER showing the final boss 😂
The dark skeletons definitely appear dragon-like. The compendium refers to Naydra, Farosh, and Dinraal as spirits, could these skeletons be the remains of their original bodies? If these three spirits have ties to the Golden Goddesses(as some theorize) then the three dragons would also have ties to the spirit of the hero, explaining how the dark skeletons are associated with the Wilds set.
To be honest, the Skeletons on the surface dont seem like Dragons to me, more like Whales somehow

No not replaced the Tri-Force
The Sacred Stones are a separate type of power source
BOTW and TOTK are composite re-tellings of the Hero of Time legend
If u look at BOTK as a kind of Prequel( for lack of a better word)
And TOTK’s depths as a rendition of the Dark World( or Lowrule)
It would make sense that a third installment would introduce the Sacred Realm and it is there that the Tri-Force will be introduced🤔
"size matters no doubt" 😭
I played through this game and unlocked every lightroot twice, and somehow I never noticed these skeletons except the one in the southwest corner.
There are also gloom hands in the depths beneath Tingel island.
Don't forget about the skeleton at Dragon Bone Mire.
I have noticed the dark skeletons have small crests on their skulls similar to the zonai dragon carvings.
RIP Levias. He was a real one.
Given that one who would seek to become a dark dragon would likely not care about draconification being forbidden, we might surmise that one can accidentally become a dark dragon in the process. Someone might intend to do good, only to have their dark aspects take over as they lose themselves in the draconification process.
You missed the Gloom Hands in the depths below Tingle Island and its chain
What begs the question is how many stones they brought with them
I wonder if the Leviathans, possibly the original deities that wielded the virtues of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, sacrificed themselves along with the assistance of the hero to defeat the dark dragons. This could be why they lay mirror to their fallen dark counterparts. Then, to fill the voids of Power, Wisdom, and Courage, three Zonai invidiuals underwent draconificaiton to become the new deities.
They have the exact same size like Demon Dragon....
God we need a prequel of the era of myth or find the actual Wild Link.
I thought the great skeletons were sky whales from skyward sword. The skeletons are definitely whale shaped
My thoughts exactly
Has anyone wondered why the dragons fly into the depths all of a sudden when in botw they flew into the sky and disappeared into the sky barrier?
You know what, maybe all these questions coming can be answered as such! To answer that we need to talk about parallel universes
I was waiting for the Goron, Gerudo and Zora Sages to become the three dragons from BOTW. Maybe they did, and they just never showed it on screen.
There is also gloom hands located right under the lightening temple
My personal theory is that Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra were Zonai priestesses who sacrificed their mind and bodies to continue serving the three golden goddesses
What if the zonai secret stones are actually the triforce broken up into many pieces 🤔
No
If this theory is true, it could be that the currently living dragons were “made” for the purpose of killing the dark dragons (and possibly even the leviathan creatures on the surface), and now endlessly patrol both the surface and depths to ensure no new threats emerge.
The ultimate example of "would you still love me if I was a worm?"
None of those skeletons are draconified people. Secret stone dragons are immortal, they explode if they die, and they’re long noodles-not giant behemoths
This theory is as solid as the pudding im eating...
I am still waiting for the triforce to show up in the 3rd game in the set.
Ngl I never got to know what stalord was when he or she was alive
Nah, you have it backwards. The there dragons died while guarding the three locations sealing away the armor pieces of Dark Lord Tingle.
I can’t wait for the legend of Zelda knowledge of the past to come out for the Nintendo switch pro OLED lol
Unfortunately for Demon Dragon Ganondorf... he got VAPORIZED 💀💀
Glad yall made this theory in the depths. I spent going around thw Dark Skeletons.
(SPOILER!)
The closest thing we see to a Hylia-dragon is Zelda, but she swallowed a secret stone and got so powered up by it she draconified.
(END SPOILER)
For the three goddesses to have powered DOWN to draconification after having made the world, and leave a physical trace of themselves (the Triforce) at the physical location their draconification took place, their power would have been amazing, and if I sit here and have a serious stab at trying to comprehend it, I start growing a headache.
Great video man, keep it up 👍
Appreciate it!
I beat the game and finish the day... 24ish hours before i watch this video
How come Ganon is the only dragon whose secret stone is visible on his head? Zelda and the elemental dragons don’t have a secret stone on their heads
I mean, Zelda and Ganondorf didn't REALLY lose themselves, did they?
When I ran into them my first question was, " Skyward Sword Ancient Dragon Spirits?"
That Hero could've possibly worn the Wild outfit, but changed to the Blue one, and his old Tunic was put down there with those dragon corpses in some superstitious way, as if the clothes he wore will keep the evil spirits at bay.
what if link swallowed raru's light gem on the back of the hand that raru gave him? would have been cool to have a triple dragon fight.
What if the depths are the old hyrule that was affected by the deluge and these are water monsters.
There are glooms hands in the depths of those islands to the right side as well (Tingle island?), so not just the skeletons, the castle and Deku area
Edit: lmao I should have just watched 5 seconds more, you already cover this
yoo its zeltik!!!!!
Could the dragon slaying hero be the ancient hero’s aspect?
The "dragon" skeletons are windfish!!
