- The crew head out for the "Big Boys Day Out", a day where we try to push our limits and ride the hardest trails we can find. Turns out I was in over my head on this trail and got a rude awakening.

This trail looks terrifying even on camera. The loam and mud makes it ten times worse!
+Seth's Bike Hacks I saw your vid of the super gnar "horseface" at windrock. I REALLY need to get down there and try that one out!
Total hairball ! Cant wait to see Phil and the sampler with Seth take this on. Horseface is a access ramp by comparison. Yikes!
You need to ride this trail 😄🤙
This is beyond my comprehension to be honest, I must have nuts the size of a squirrel!
seth go ride it please lmao.
My biggest pleasure in this video is that you don't make excuses for your fears. anybody who is lucky enough to have access to this kind of terrain knows there are places and days when it's just not going to happen...and that's just fine in my book. I'd rather finish a ride with a little frustration and everybody intact, than having to get somebody out of the woods, injured, because their head wasn't in the right space. There's always next time. Haters and big talkers mean nothing.
+Ben Gordon yup, I'd rather ride another day. No use in injuring myself because i forced myself into something. Thanks for watching Ben.
This x1000. Well said.
+chrisrnz r
Luis Alberto posada
Ben Gordon cm👍👏👏👏 Sums up exactly what I was thinking watching this.
Better to ride another day😄
With you on this one. But it's so damn frustrating to walk the section that your friend just casually rolled over.
*”The trail will find you when your ready”* I think it found you slightly early lol
I won't dispute that!
@@BCpov Nah, everyone has those days. You shredded it yet?
HAHA :). Funny but still I bet even the best rider in the world would find it hard first times.
The trail is called huggies
@@xrosepro.8320 you're gonna need some after some of those drops..
“This is the type of trail that finds you.” How can I make sure it doesn’t?? Great video Eric, this is the real stuff that I love and the haters love to hate.
Thanks Brian! I'll be sure to not invite you on this ride next year! 😉
In all seriousness, the trail is a bit more of an interpretive walk for us mere mortals.
See you in Whistler this summer!? 🤘🤘🤘😁
You and me both you wouldn't wanna come by this by mistake. It would ruin your day. Need some abseiling equipment for that shit.
BKXC for real bro, i dont want that trail to find me, lol
Next time maybe you guys could join up with Seth and Alex to ride that trail. That would be awesome to watch.
Ayyy brain watches aswell 😁
Thanks for the shout out and kind words Eric! That was a wicked day!
No problem Matt, pretty amazing to see you hit that roll. Glad I got to witness that!
Mad respect man!
Such bike control, beautiful.
Matt I need lessons 😭
Give'er!!!!!!
People rarely talk about how much of a mind game mountain biking is. It's easy to get shaken up some days and hard to get composure back. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching mrwookloaf! Yea, some days can be tough. Too much in your own mind.
It’s really interesting. I don’t do mountain biking but find myself and others in skateboarding with the same problems. It is always your mind that limits you in what you’re capable to do.
Failing?!?! You rode amazing!! Love your humbleness. Insane trail. Thx for the upload. Amazing riding guys!!
Thanks!!
My favorite part of this video is seeing y’all hanging out, kind of problem solving together and following your passion
I love the way everyone waited no pressure a proper crew 👍🍺
Came back to this one after Barelli's video. I was like "where did I see this before?". It puts you in prospective how good of a rider you need to be to ride this.
Thanks Eric for the content!
Holy crap that looks gnarly as hell. You can tell it's steep. Your fork was so compressed going down that stuff it's insane! Don't beat yourself up over it, you did awesome!
Thanks James. It was pretty gnar, need to get back and try again!
Harder than White Ranch for sure :D
Let's go!
BCpov I know exactly how you were feeling dude. In the UK everyone loves wet winter riding - going out and riding some gnarly shit in the rain is about as british as it gets - but when you're on a super steep rocky, rooty track you don't know with no grip and can't stop it's really tough. This wasn't wet but it just looks so so steep and tech it's mad. I'm sure it's the same feeling
I like that none of the fails were edited out, you can see that confidence was lost. We all have been there. This is how you progress as a rider. To see others nailing sections so the next time you will have a different perpective and more willing to hit stuff. And when you go back to your local trails you look at them different.
Thanks William, I definitely try to keep it real. Crashing or chickening out is part of it!
i totally love the fact that you didn’t make excuses. great lesson.
Glad to know even good riders such as yourself have bad days, confidence busters, and self doubt. We’ve all been there. Thanks for sharing. Craziest features I’ve ever seen back to back.
+Pj Etcheverry for sure, that day was just not my day. Sometimes you want something so much, bit the fear keeps you away.
1:00 guy in the back was watering the tree
AR77 Gazar I scrolled down in the comments trying to find someone to comment about it
Love your honesty. Feeling your frustration. When the confidence get knocked out of you early on with riding at your max. With a trail so intense from top to bottom it's hard regain composure and confidence. It has a knock on effect for the rest of the day. All the guys that on top form will be first down while the nervous ones end up at the back feeding off each other doubts, and making this even tougher. That was some hard core trail.
You've got the vibe of the day exactly with that comment Andrew. Thanks for that :)
Nope.
Yes? :)
Congrats on 30k subs btw :)
Us YEG boys should go slay this!
BCpov Nope. Not the hardest.
@@anonyesshadow3602 How do you know?
There's nothing I love more than singletrack that winds through a forest, so beautiful and so unpredictable! These guys are skilled riders of varying degrees and it's obvious they're being tested. That soil is no help, easily washes out and you lose traction.
Yup, it was a tough one for sure Carlos! All those guys were amazing riders and I felt a bit like a fish out of water!
If it looks that nasty on GoPro, then I know it looked RIDICULOUS in person. My confidence would have been fine on that trail. I'm confident I would have been walking the insane stuff and filming the other guys going it, similar to what you did. I'm all for technical riding, but some of that stuff was next level nuts. GREAT video, and loved that you included your hesitancy and concerns.
I would always MUCH rather see guys back down when they are uncomfortable, then try something they are concerned about. When you rolled up to that narrow chute three times and didn't go....I was thinking, "NOPE, not today. Come back another day." When I think about it that much, I never go....never ends well. :-)
Yup, with each roll up my confidence shrank. I just had to say no, despite feeling pressure from myself to go. It feels kind of embarrassing, but it's for the best.
Yeah, when you can tell it's steep from go pro footage it's really, really steep!
Seconded 100% It also takes balls to acknowledge some things are not within your skills yet or you're off your game today. It was really hard to watch the video cause I was thinking the same and would have hated to see you end up in hospital because you didn't listen to your gut. Glad you're ok!
BCpov put on chest arm and leg armor. Maybe a cup. I bailed a lot at Donner ski ranch training the dual slolum.
Probably the right decision in this situation, but it's not always wise to walk away. Fear can grow big over time and eat you up. But that line looked scary as ....
Not to mention the drop Beers did.
So relate-able feeling the honesty and the trepidation in the voice. My nerves were on fire at times watching this but I loved every minute of it. Having shattered my leg and knee and taking 4 operations to somewhat fix, your video burrowed straight down to those feelings. I still ride and still love it but at 60 years old I learned to be honest about one's skillset, to push yourself some, and if you decide on something you got to be "all in" when you roll in. Thanks for a great video!
Thanks for watching tomordr. Yeah, I prefer to keep it real. It's more interesting.
But yeah, I just want to ride another day. Definitely had a few crashes in the past where I push myself when I'm not comfortable.
The dude that sent it down after barely looking at it is definitely me lol I just go and hope for the best😂😂 it's a noice rush of adrenaline
I do the same too... if im not sure whether i can or cant..i just go and hope for the best..98% works...1% hurts :D and 1%ahhh next time XD
You sound so sad, you did not fail! You're just not ready yet and with a bit more experience I belive you can conquer this trail. I have respect for you that you knew what you wanted to try and what not, you are a good role model
Well this video was 2 years ago so I am sure you already can do way more than 2 years back
Packing list for this trail: big bike, full face, duffel bag full of armour, spare boxers, brown bag.
Maybe add a rope to that list 😉
Splint, ice packs and ibuprofen
Helicopter medivac on standby!
NOBL Wheels add a shovel, a coffin and some embalming materials in case you take the wrong turn
Your forgot: Shield, helmet, sword, breast plate
Although an seriously difficult trail, your video to me is what mountain biking is about. Challenging your skills and hanging with your friends. Looking for new trails and "to boldly go where no one has gone before". Thanks for the video.
Thanks Trevor, you can't always ride everything the first go! There is always next time!
Those were the steepest trails I've seen through a gopro. Your an excellent rider and 99% of riders on the planet would be intimidated.
Thanks Dan. Glad the gopro could still capture the steepness.
What are you talking about this looks like the easiest trail I've ever seen
@@fcwwk2556 Try it then, if you're so "pro"
Already did, that's why I know it's a bullshit trail lol
@@fcwwk2556 You were probably shitting yourself then XD.
You said it yourself, it's all about context. Humbling to see you struggle through this, when you've smashed some seriously gnarly stuff. Casts what some people are capable of in a new light!
For sure. Those pro's out there. They are truly amazing.
Nice Eric! This trail used to actually be quite a bit easier, in 2009 it was mostly loam and dirt in all the sketchy parts, it's got considerably harder since then with all the rock and roots coming through! good job riding it!
Thanks Ali! I'll clean a few more lines next time :)
Name?
your honesty is outstanding...and tbh, I'd be walking most everything there ...hats off to you mate...and yes...you were definitely riding with some seriously confident riders.. no sense in hurting yourself to be the hero that fails...ride what you can and go around what you cant...great video...cheers for the upload!
Thanks D, I always try to keep it real. It's more interesting that way, isn't it?
Glad I made it out in one piece and also witness some of those guys sending it!
Thanks for posting this video. I just turned 40 in November and only started riding about five years ago. The head games are the absolute worst, and it's good to see someone as skilled as you struggle with them as well. Anyways, hello from Vancouver Island and keep the videos coming!
Thanks Dustin, we all struggle with those head games. Some more than others. Some times its best to just go but on this trail, I think its better to be safe than sorry.
BCpov agreed. Some serious gnar there
It’s almost comforting knowing that even greats like you have fears and still hesitate. I think you’re quite the amazing rider, but I respect what you do and don’t, and how much you know you’ve grown, and what you should work on. Props to you, you put a knew spin on mountain biking for us all.
yet another awesome trail
Thanks Jordan! I'll have to take you down it sometime!
Jordan Boostmaster p”
You're a way better rider than I'll ever be, and it's courageous of you to post where you are challenged. There are many videos of people conquering trails and shredding through the worst and it's good to see where good riders hit their limits for a change.
+seattlevkk thanks Seattle, i try to keep it real. Everybody fails, including me.
Man, that is a tough, steep looking tech trail. Great editing to show how difficult it must've been. I think you did well riding it. Don't be too hard on yourself. I've watched a lot of your videos and I've ridden many of the trails in your videos; you are an excellent rider. It's smart to walk a section if you're not feeling confident about it; Much better than a serious injury for the sake of pride.
+JM Rides Trail thanks jm, it always feels shitty to do no to something, especially in a big group like that. But it wanna ride the next day as well.
This looks difficult and gnarly as hell, mad respect both for the riders that rode that whole thing, and to the camera man for accepting his limitations. Imagine crashing bad out there and putting your fellow riders in the position of having to carry you out. 5/5 would watch again.
Thanks Rikard, I always prefer to ride another day than get injured!
"Is it crazy? Of course it's crazy" Haha! So true. Man, that trail is nuts.
+Tim Smith yup, it just got crazier
Thx for that! Glad to see riders in tiuch with their mortality! No fail, just delayed win!!!
Yup, I'll be back!
The camara hides alot. Those are expert/pro level lines. Props.
Thanks 1vpclos, there are a few vids out there of the pros crashing their brains out on this stuff.
This is beyond a pro line, like the double black diamond of the pro lines lol. Some pro lines I could manage, this is beyond anything in my wildest dreams or something I coild ride. @bcpov you did amazing and knew when to call it, props for having the strength to know it's not worth it or give into pressure after watching the others send it
Its the kind of trail you have to know by heart and learn patiently and keep your speed on
for sure. Now that I've been down it once, I'd like to go back and try again for sure!
Oh my fuck! Bud you smashed it. I'm well aware of the gopro effect and that trail is the steepest I've seen on the tube. Respect and keep the vids coming.
+Dave Ross thanks Dave, thanks for watching!
So glad to see this video Eric. I get humbled a lot and it's nice to see I'm not alone. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Grant. Yeah, I think we all get humbled once in a while.
This trail reminds me of a little stash some friends up in Vancouver showed me a few years back. Just over-the-top gnar. I was being towed in be this short little dude from the UK. He kept disappearing behind 6 foot drops and I'd follow in. Then I come up in what I thought was a 6 footer and it turned out to be a 22' death huck. Scared me to death but I stuck it. Biggest hit of my career and I never wanna be 20 feet in the air again. 🤘
Yikes! Bit irresponsible of that guy not to warn you! But you lived!
Those are some of my favorite experiences in riding. They don’t always work to you’re advantage, but you’ve done it once and the initial fear is gone so ya do it again! I dig riding with big diverse groups like this. So much to learn from everyone ya know? This trail looks wicked fun!
Glad to see someone else freak out over super steeps besides just me. That trail looks insane even with a GoPro, I couldn’t imagine how steep it is in person.
We've got all demons eh? Hopefully I can get over them and hit more stuff on this trail!
Absolutely insane. I've been watching you for a little while and your skill level and the trails you ride is crazy so to see you having the same fears that I do and not being able to make yourself ride something is pretty shocking. Just goes to show there is always something out there to scare even the most confident riders. Glad you made it down in one piece as having an accident out there would be bad.
+Chris Graves luckily we all escaped with no injuries. Tyler took a few hits out there for sure.
Props for attempting some of those lines. They look crazy steep with the GoPro on. I could only imagine how steep they were in person.
Wow, awesome video, thanks for sharing! I could barely stand to watch on a few of those descents. Glad no one got hurt! Definitely out of my league, but looks like a great place to take my bike for a walk... :-)
an interpretive trail walk for sure..
Honestly I feel like it’s good to have things like this because it humbles you and can encourage you to just keep trying and practice more and more to achieve the goal you want
That trail looks RAD!
Trail Peek looks like right up your alley
You guys should ride it too!
Cya next summer!
BCpov I’m signed up for EWS whistler so it’s happening 👍🤘
+Trail Peek fantastic!
Let me join the bazillion people saying that it's cool that you posted this. You are a bad ass and it's good to see really talented people still getting overcome with fear and/or reason. So thanks. If I could like this twice, I would.
Thanks evernod. I try to keep it real. We don't always have awesome days in the bike :)
This trail should be called "Fun's End."
Haha, the guys up front were having fun! Us guys in the back.. not so much.
thats what makes you a great rider eric cause you know your limit but we keep pushing it and becoming even better riders
Thanks Blade, we can always try another day, right?
If a trail looks sketch on a GoPro, it's REALLY HECKING SKETCH!
Glad you feel the same way :)
Great video on how you can get into a "confidence cascade" on tough trails, where one little thing takes a little bit away, then a bit more then a lot, then you feel like you can't ride down stuff you would normally eat up.
Yup, just shows how much of our riding ability hinges on your confidence!
That was a scary trail. Its crazy to see you back off from those because we've seen you do so many before. Just goes to show how crazy those lines are.
Heads and shoulders the most difficult trail I've ridden. I'll try again next summer :)
BCPov this trail would be murder on a day when you're feeling on your game and like you said you hit it cold and on a day where you were obviously just "not feeling it"... no shame in not always looking like a superstar in the review footage. I'm glad you came okay as I have been reviewing your videos like a drug in prep for my trip to BC for a couple months this summer. Hate to lose such a good source of information and inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching JC, you're going to have a great time!
One of my favorite mtb videos of the year. I was riding those lines with you.
+Ned Cameron thanks ned, glad you enjoyed it!
Sooooo humbling! Reminds me of the harder days riding in NZ; super steep super techy. Never quite as gnar as this though.... When you get to the point you've stopped and tumbled so many times it's hard to ride stuff that you know you can... and you have to suck it up and get back in the saddle. AMAZING video.. well done and thanks!
Thanks for watching James, glad you enjoyed it!
Bro this can’t knock ur confidence you were awesome 👏
Thanks Jack! Definitely need to go back and try get some more of those features this summer!
Everyone has good and bad days on the bike, Glad you mad the Vid. Always good to see the real mtb experience which has both ups and downs
Thanks kev, I try to keep it real, even if it's not always positive.
The shit me and my friends come up with in the woods behind my house aren’t steep but almost impossible. The trail goes through trees that are narrower than the bars then you have a 2ft ledge immediately after then a really tight switchback onto a narrow bridge
haha, awesome. you guys are going to be great tech riders!
Are you mad, you didn’t fail , your a great rider , people don’t really get the perspective on a go pro until your actually doing it, really great spirit of mountain biking... love it
Thanks Adam, definitely some mental things going on with this ride!
today i was moutain biking with my dad and fell into a cactus #AZlife
Haha, we definitely don't have those problems up here in BC!
I am also in BC where is this trail?
Was that in the back yard?
Nice
Good post. It is setting a good example of a capable rider knowing his limitations on that day.
"I'm not going to tell you the trail... Oh yeah this is famous" @1:31 :D
Haha, this trail is in a fair amount of videos, name withheld ;)
Thanks for the realness of this video. So many videos edit out the worried feelings. This is epic!
Thanks Israel, I try to keep it real!
So after watching this video, I got up out of my seat and noticed my chair was wet. 0_0 So GoPro is like the camera that makes every thing seem much flatter in videos...this trail is so damn steep and gnar even GoPro's can't make them look any easier.
My shorts mighta been a little wet after that ride as well!
BCpov LOL! Keep up the great work man your channel is one of my favorites to watch!
Totally! That's what I was thinking!
Go pros have wide angle lenses, they make big things seem bigger. Like when a hiker is at the peak of a ridge, it looks much more drastic than with a regular camera.
Kudos to you for showing the fails as well as the accomplishments. Knowing when to say a trail is beyond ones abilities is important. Stay safe.
Hey guys, if you know the name of the trail or location, please don't post it in the comments out of respect for the trail and the builders.
BCpov hey Eric, i think you have to "pinned down" this comment so it stays on the very top for everyone to see. Btw, I like that you go for the gnarl hence i so enjoy your videos. Cheers bud.
Sorry bout posting it earlier dude.
No problem hobmarg!
If you ask around in the Sea to Sky area and are a good enough rider, someone would probably show you it. I kind of doubt you are building trails like this "locally all the time" though... hardest trail in the area isn't likely replicated that often.
BCpov what year is that ex7
As somebody who has been in this position and had days like this the most important thing to getting past it is staying light on the bike and not stiffening up or getting tense, letting the bike move more underneath you and definitely using your front brake more, it's where all of your grip is on those steep bits
It is under the radar, but not a secret and is quite old. Remy M. put a vid up with the name in the title. Vids are all over Pinkbike, Vimeo, and VitalMTB. I never did it but was close (it was out of reach). Thanks for sharing your limits and fear. I have been hurt too much playing with limits. Also that area changes in the dust, wet, needles in the fall... all witch can produce random crashes.
+Paul Burns yup, just wanna play nice with the locals. It's not my trail to advertise. Not sure about the remy vid, hopefully he got permission to include the name.
Risk vs reward, when you went OTB I was like NOOO. I tore all the ligaments off my clavicle near that trail this summer. Also in that area some of the coolest trails are empty. I think people do name droppers. That is not one -- too hard. I used to ride every trail on my DH bike first -- so much easier.
Why is it taboo to post the name or location? Is this trail illegal? If not then folks should promote great trails like this.
Tim Moore it’s not illegal per-say, but it’s unauthorized/unsanctioned by the organization that manages the land it’s on... it would be bad for random people to go wreck themselves on it.
Any trail in your kneck of the woods seems like hardest trail ever but this takes it to another level hats off to you for knowing your limits not being afraid to walk away I was cringing just watching it great video
Thanks for watching Mathew. I prefer to walk away and ride another day then end up in the hospital.
Eric that trail was epic man......glad your ok from that fall, thanks for sharing man!!
Thanks Monster, I'm lucky there wasn't anything gnarly in that landing.
You need to lean the fuck back!
Dang dude! This is some really real content! I'm sorry you had a bad day but it is refreshing to see content that breaks the mold for mtb videos. I imagine it takes a lot of guts to post something like this. You have earned my respect and new sub. :)
Thanks MrPurp, I try to keep it as real as I can. We're not all super heros!
A little nervous? I would probably walk my bike the whole trail
I'm pretty sure I poo'd myself a little!
Oh, I don’t know . . . There’s a stretch of about 20m that I might ride . . . 😳💩
I would leave my bike there and run home
Great video , thanks for your honesty .Happens to me all the time and it’s good to know everyone has the same problems on trail .
Thanks Laura, it's easy to edit to make yourself look like a superstar, but then you're cutting out all the interesting stuff.
I appreciate your prudence on the trails. Makes me even more hopeful to ride with you in BC this summer!
Come on up! We've got a lot of great stuff! I'll down to florida sometime!
this is so real, I have been following matt on Instagram for a long time now and he doesnt seem to boast about his abilities. Loved your buddy on the Evolink sending it and eating shit without getting too discouraged, Your crash was really dudely and im stoked youre okay, that trail looks like it exceeds the average trail rating system.
Tyler on the pole has no fear! He kept sending it and crashing all over the place!
Hope you're alright this video definitely deserves a like...
nuts ...insane trail ..all u guys killed it man no failure at all.
Thanks durcell! I'll be back for more!
Wow...awesome video man!!!.....love these kind of trails....rode ride don't slide n micro climate last summer and can't wait to get back to BC!!....can't seem to get enough of BC....btw...I'm from Singapore!!!
+gary lee nice! Micro climate is getting punched! Give dark Crystal a try next trip!
Will do.....may I join you for a ride?
a really big show of how important confidence is when riding as well. even being off mentally just a bit can make you forget to do the smallest things like pull up
You need to make a redemption run! I will eagerly await for it.
Totally relate to that feeling - once it get's in your head it's over. It's good to know these trails are out there somewhere. We have some "gnar trails" near us too but no where near this steep.
Yeah, it was a tough day. Yup, I'm glad this trail exists. Something to work up to!
This is so wild. It looks so insanely steep!
+No Front Brakes so steep. It rarely let up!
Thanks for sharing! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been humbled by a trail.
+Richard Childs it happens even to the best.
That is Hardcore trail riding
It's legit for sure. Thanks for watching roi!
קומבליס!!! מה המצב?
A small world indeed.
I still think our trails are scarrier, no?
Matan Milo אחי מה קורה?יש חורשן היום ?
mishmar at 14:00. you in?
In my exp of riding big lines, I’ve noticed the more you think about it the harder it becomes, sometimes on this stuff “just sending it” is what it takes!
Yup, just sending it can work! Don't want to get injured though!
After watching the video I can see why you lost confidence in your riding. I lost confidence in mine from just watching this lol
haha! I love this comment. Thanks pwdt4r!
This is one of the few pov vids where you can really feel the anxiety of these types of situations. Good footage man good thing you made it out all right!
Thanks Dan!
I shat myself just watching it
Great video dude, you are one courageous biker! That is a crazy trail and kudos to you my friend for capturing it all for us. Truly awesome effort.
+George Herbert thanks George, it was a pretty intense ride!
I'm from Norway, never set foot in Canada and even I recognize that trail.
+DownhillChris it's been in s few vids :)
DownhillChris haha it's kinda trespassing...
yes I feel same way.. got scared and didn't ride properly, start to build my confidence.
Sometimes, it's just an off day isn't it?
i know were the trail is,people have a right to know, the trail is in......HELL
lol. fair enough!
This gives a very good view on how most people ride trails! Checking scary stuff and be freaking happy when you nail it!! 🤘🏻
Totally!
That was so scary :O
I pretty much poo'd myself 😉
It's good to see mere mortals riding rather than the glossy (if brilliant) stuff given out by bike manufacturers. I love the honesty of riders and the skills of others.
+Nicholas Gartell definitely a mere mortal here!
hard,very hard
crazy hard.
no way! I applaud all of you for your courage for trying... not worth the injuries etc....
Thanks Holley, always keen to come back another day to try!
Even the easier parts are sketchy
For sure! The whole thing is pretty bonkers.
I just watched the POD cast with "Feeding Off Each Other" in which U mention this trail. Man I had no idea there were trails this hard out there physically, emotionally and on Ur confidence, being ridden by those that can (Matt Beer). Waaayy above my pay grade. Thanks for sharing Eric.
