I agree. I found the graphics and speed to be very helpful, and I have to say that the still images of Dr Nic are perfect. To me, they added a human touch to the topic without it being a video that risked shifting the focus to her. Super clever and well thought out, I think!
So, I love math, it was my favorite subject in lower grade school and college. I have recently decided to become a data scientist starting with learning database administration. While examining the career path, I saw that I had to learn statistics, okay no big deal. I am half way through my semester and we started studying statistical inference. My professor, God bless him, is not too good at explaining topics. I have resorted to not attending the class and just read the book. However, the book is filled with unnecessary words. I found this video on the whole chapter and it makes so much sense in just about 7 mins. Thank you so much!
Hi Dr. Nick, Thank you very much for providing such topics for students to understand statistics in easy way. I have been following many channels of statistics, but no one of them, with my respect, provided the quality and the good content like you. Keep up the good work! Thanks!
Thank you Saeed. It is gratifying to read your comments. I have put a lot of thought and work into many of the videos, so it is great that they help people. Please share and subscribe!
I barely passed this module in university... within the 10 years of work and employment, I've managed to filter out distractions and can finally grasp the concept of this subject! I'll recap my studies... i don't use any advanced maths in my work :(
@@DrNic haha, sorry, it's a joke for "in just 2 minutes I got it", I was looking for an explanation like this for like 2 hours and I couldn't find it because all the other classes on this subject focus on math, and that's ok, but I wanted to understand intuitively first, so thanks!
*I still haven't got my dream job at Google, Professor Nic. I have applied for more than 150 companies so far and I am only getting rejection mails. Will life get any better for me?*
Great video! But your example of New Zealand confuses me. Inferential statistics is about making inferences about the POPULATION from a SAMPLE, but in the example of New Zealand's opinion of the economy, you have what the POPULATION think, i.e. 40% think the economy is failing, and from this you take a sample of the overall population and try to infer how likely it is that 50% or more will think the economy is failing - meaning that you're making inferences about the sample based on data from the population?!
You are correct. This is a theoretical illustration to show how we know what are likely results. So if the population proportion is 50% then the chance of getting a given proportion is the p-value. If the given proportion has a zero probability, then we can see that our initial assumption was wrong.
I got confused about the conculsion at 5: 21 "We are pretty sure that between 32% and 43% of the people think the economy is getting worse". I think it should be 37% instead of 32%. Could you please help me explain this point?
Your videos are very, very good, but I think the example about the population of NZ and the 50% thing, with that graph and all was all a little bit confusing. I chose to ignore that part and the video was very informative, I understand the 3 precepts and all, only that part was not so clear and helpful.
Hi Flavia Thanks for the feedback. Quite often with statistical concepts you need to go back over them a few times. Statistical inference is far from intuitive, so if you understood everything else with one viewing, you and I are doing pretty well.
sir if I take survey about the popular political party in country and I find that 26℅ people are supporting party A ,36℅ to party B and 19℅ to party C so which type of statistics would it be?
you've just explained something that my textbook has taken 600 pages to muddle up! Thank you :-)

You have no idea how much I appreciate how simply you explained this!
That is lovely to hear. I am currently teaching myself physics with the help of RUclips so I do understand how welcome a well-explained video can be.
This video is a huge help. Many sources simply explain how to use statistics, not how it works
her pronunciation is excellent which makes the video very easy to digest
Thank you! Some people think I have a strange accent, so it's nice you can understand me well.
