    Yet another fantastic video, thank you! FWIW, yesterday I battled furiously because Google Ads did not have the option for GTM when I created a new Conversion, it only had html code to paste myself or to email, so I couldn't get the GTM ID. When remaking the Conversion, I noticed a line of text that said something like "Google Analytics is currently watching for data, click here to switch to Google Ads watching data" and when I switched it to "google ads" it finally gave me the GTM option and ID to use for the Conversion.

    Been watching your videos for a while and they are super helpful. I have a question I have been tracking purchases and passing subtotal into the value parameter, and I recently noticed that E-commerce Revenue prebuilt dimension is supposed to track value revenue and include tax and shipping. I am passing in all three but Ecommerce Revenue is only displaying subtotal data I was wondering if you knew why this is happening? Should I be passing in purchase total (including tax & shipping) into value but then why are shipping and tax even an option at that point?

    I've created conversion tracking and it's working very efficiently. The only thing just bored me is that I have to trigger the conversion tracking. Because it will turn to inactive status if it does not receive any data for 7 days.
    Did you have any ideas on how to prevent the conversion change to inactive?

    Why is it that on (6:32) in the video there are 3 options, but n our google ads account I can only see 2 options? The 3rd option which is install via GTM isn't available.

    Hi Julius - now that you have set your mind on GAds it would be nice (and market is asking for) a video that shows what are the benefits for GADS when used in combo with GA4. What GA4 can give to GADS that Universal was not able to give? Curious of your thoughts =)

      Good question - I've wondered this too but not found any clear answer. I'm not sure there are many benefits right now over UA. I think GA4 just works differently than UA. GA4 uses event tracking while UA was based on page views. It seems like it was a necessary technology change and may have something to do with cookies, privacy, etc. The GA4 web tracking feels worse to me in many ways than UA but I'm hoping it improves over time.

      for me, we have the website as the marketing tools (landing page) and as the web app. and we also have Android & iOS apps. as far as I know, using GA4 will make it possible to track data both from web and mobile apps. the data is recorded as the events in GA4, and then that data can be used in GADS. UA can't support mobile apps because it is web session based.

    Thanks for the great video. I looked at some successful shops with the GT Assistants Legacy extension and the use of both: the manual input code (gtag) and conversion tracking of Google Ads via GTM. Is there any specific reason for doing that? Wouldn't the same conversion be tracked twice?

    Thanks for this video Julius, helpful as always. As the manually created conversion gives GA more data to work with, I'd prefer this option over importing the conversion from GA4. However, my GA and GA4 are linked and I need to track the same conversion in GA4 as well, for organic conversions. Will this cause any problems (GA4 conversions counted double for example)?

Despite following recommendations, in the Conversions section of my Google ads Acc I still see 'Inactive' in the 'Status' of each conversion action I selected. Could you please help me resolving the issue? BTW, I tested TagManager and it seams connected and working with my online store.

      Websites are coded in different ways thus the code for various websites would be different. Thus there is no course that teaches you completely how to create the data layer code yourself (if you are not a developer). My course for beginners does not teach how to code.

    For the conversion in GTM do we always need a custom event firing trigger or can we use a page view trigger? I mean in the case for a lead signup form that leads to a thank you page, I'd setup the conversion trigger when a page view of the thank you page happens

      Yes your solution works too. However, if for some reason, someone land on the thank you page without having signing-up, then it would be fake data. Working with a custom-coded dataLayer helps you prevent these possible errors.

    I set up conversion tracking using GTM, and I double-checked the conversion ID and label when using GTM's preview tool, and it matched. But when I checked in my Google Ads account over "Tools and setting" and clicked "Conversion,'" I still had 0 conversions. What could this issue be?

    Hi Julius, thank you for this video! In my setup I've configured the Google Ads conversion tag as a cleanup tag on a GA4 even tag, meaning that the conversion tag is triggered after the GA4 event has happened. I found this to be cleaner and easier in my GTM setup. Is this a good way to go about this or do you see any constraints in this method? Thanks already!

    Hi, awsome content. I have two questions. I have Google analytics and I am tracking contact form 7 trough tag manager using your previous tutorial "Track Contact Form 7 with Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager
    ". And it is working fine in GA4.
    - Can I have both GA4 & Ads tracking trough the same Tag manager without any duplicates in conversions etc?
    - I already have the contact form 7 trigger, can I use the same trigger for my ads then? It will only fire when someone click trough my ads then?

    Hey Julius,
    I need help with the conversion numbers of Google Ads and GA4. If I compare the conversion value and conversion numbers, GA4's conversions are almost twice that of Google Ads. I am talking about the purchase conversion Tag here. I have a Shopify Store, and a few months ago, I integrated the GA4 property with Shopify and got the Shopify-integrated Ecommerce Events. I checked almost everything, and the attribution model is the same for both Tags, which are Data-driven. Timezone is the same. Also, auto-tagging is enabled. Can you please help me solve this issue? Please find the example.
    This is data for July 6.
    Google Ads Tag:
    Conversion Action - Purchase
    Action Optimization - Primary
    Conversion Source - Website
    All conv. - 20.78

      This part of the setup does not change in CM v2.
      Just make sure the CM settings are loaded before your conversion tags and conversion linker.
      As for importing ga4 conversions to google ads, you can do that too. But then mark ga4 conversions as secondary conversions in google ada. That way, only conversions from google ads tag will be used for bidding and will be used as primary conversions.

      I still see that option in my UI. So saying "google does not allow" is not quite correct. For some users, for some reason, that option is not visible. But it is still possible to take the conversion label and id from the generated gtag and use it in GTM

      You cannot track follows/likes because you cannot add custom codes to your social media profiles

    Hey Julius - amazing tutorial, thank you for this. Quick question: If I am using dataLayer push to trigger the Google Ads conversion tag, will conversions of other sources be counted in Google Ads? Basically, I'm also running Facebook ads and don't want those counted as Google Ad conversions.

      If a user clicked google ad first, then fb ad, and then converted, then both platforms will attribute that conversion to them.

    Do Google Ads Conversions surface in GA4? I know you can send conversions from GA4 into Google Ads. But, what about reporting on Google Ads Conversions from GA4?

      hi, conversion can be tracked in 2 ways in googleads: importing goals from GA, or set goals directly in Google Ads (for better measurement). It is not possible to import Conversions from Google Ads into GA. Better to set up goals in both as the result might differ because different attribution models.

    It doesn't matter if the buyer pays $17 (initial offer only) or $64 (with order bump)...
    It sends back to g ads as the same conversion, but different value?
    Isnt it better to have 2 different conversions?
    Like conversion A ($17) and conversion B ($64)...
    Cause i see you use only 1 manual conversion, but attach different values via dataLayer

      I think never same Id of all forms so you can try API for track conversation for example if you use contact form 7 than use contact form 7 Success API to track conversation

    Hi there. I'm experiencing a problem with my Google Ads account conversion tracking for an e-commerce shop. Although the account normally counts purchase conversions with conversion values when I navigate to the 'Conversions' section, these conversions do not appear in my campaigns. I've confirmed that all tags are firing as expected in Google Tag Manager. Do you maybe know where should I look in order to solve this since I have not found similar problems online.

    Did this change again? Mine is forcing me to add snippet code into google tag instead of giving me a conversion number. It's generating a ga4 event like conversion_event_submit_lead_form_1

      I had such trouble getting it to give me the GTM number, but when creating the Conversion I saw a line of text that said something like "Google analytics is currently watching for conversions. Click here to switch to Google Ads watching conversions" and when I clicked that, it finally gave me the correct interface to link Google Tag Manager.

      hey I was able to see the Tag Manager options by setup the event manually, maybe you can try that and see if that works for you!

    Thanks a lot! I have watched few videos of yours and already am really into GTM, Analytics and Ads tracking. I have managed to do the tracking mentioned here by setuping DOM Elements, as I do not have opportunity yet to ask for DataLayer.push. But in general, where the dynamic value that was set can be seen? In the Google Ads? In Google Analytics? Will this Google Ads tracking setup will be reflected in GA4 or separate event is needed? @analyticsMania

    I am unable to see the Google Tag Manager option, and I am not sure why. However, I need the conversion label. I came across your article which explains that the option may not be available due to recent changes in the interface. I only have the gtag snippet, and I cannot locate the conversion label because it only shows numbers with AW - 1283124194, but not the conversion label. Could you assist me with this issue like is there any explanation to it?
