I think the target employee who called the cops should get a F, also. He’s taking too long, so instead of having an employee assist the man, who clearly has issues, you go and call the cops? Despicable. The cops have no shame either, treating him like that.
This was my thought
He already makes it so clear in the video that there's no for sure if the target employee actually did tell them anything about him. Target called about the actual shoplifter. There's no valid evidence the employee asked the officers to get the disabled man out.

It seems to me that they showed up to get a shoplifter, but maybe missed them. Then loss prevention guy complained about the disabled man tumbling with his cash at the self checkout. They must have assumed he was drunk or a drug addict. If they did tell the cops to remove him, they changed their story real quick, and threw the cops under the bus in that one... Either way, the cops should have known way better than to handle that like that. I think the guy has grounds to sue the store, and the cops. I hope he does.

Thank you.
The right to remain silent does not mean you do not have to identify yourself or respond to officers commands, it means that during a criminal investigation you do not have to answer questions if detectives are investigating a crime. An officer asking you to identify yourself is not a crime being investigated.
@@DCShaneTours what does that have to do with my comment?
Right? It’s so ridiculous.
A little bit of patience and compassion and this whole situation could have been avoided.
Instead they go straight to use of force and arrest, just disgusting.
Probably because police quotas don't count helping people.

In the ole' days we called it common sense
arresting a disabled man for taking too long at the self check out is the most disgusting thing i've seen. I hope this man sues both the police and Target.
I guarantee you there will be a lawsuit. If I were a civil liberties lawyer in the State of New Mexico, this would be the easiest slam dunk case in the history of cases where both entities would be paying out of their nose. Unfortunately for the APD, it would be the taxpayers paying, but I’m sure your usual lawyer won’t mind as long as they’re getting a nice fat commission out of the deal.

Here it is again. Kicking down as a power play against a weaker individual; beginning with the Target employee and involving law enforcement with power egos showing how important and disgusting they can be. All this poor man deserved was a little help and understanding. Nice going guys. Hope you all slept well.
One of the saddest aspects is that this poor man tried to dial 911 for help, little realizing that the bullies attacking him were police officers.
This right here is the epicenter of why I’m so angry. The very people who he was hoping would assist are the ones who are molesting him.
Literally nearly broke my heart seeing him try to call 911. What is going on here that no one can realize this guy needs help not violent force.

As a retired peace officer I'm absolutely disgusted by these former officers, who never should have been LEO'S in the first place.

The employee who called the police that initiated this pathetically sad display of inhumanity should be fired as well.
If following the train of thought in the video, the police were called for another potential shoplifter. This was a side action on their part. This would explain why he happen to be still counting his money to pay the machine.
@MrBeevee5 While I can see your flimsy justification, noone was arrested for the original call which probably means their proof was just as flimsy. The police weren't even sure what the employee wanted them to do, with the shopper in this clip. Again, pathetically sad showing of inhumanity for no reason.
ABSOLUTLEY
It's Target. They won't call the cops when men go into the bathroom with little girls.
But this guy is the threat.

I can absolutely see this being a misunderstanding, like "hey, while you are here, go help that guy" being interpreted as "help us with that guy". The police were apparently called for an actual criminal, this just happened on the side.
ALL 3 officers AND the Target employee who called the police should go to jail AND pay restitution to the guy.

Though he was mistaken, he thought the cops were security guards, clearly understood the difference and understood that security guards might present themselves as police and would not have the right to arrest him. He understood that he had done nothing wrong and protested the legitimacy of the arrest. These factors argue against the severity of his disability. It seems it was primarily the strangeness of his vocal tone that caused the judge to deem him incompetent to stand trial, robbing him of his right to defend himself in court.
Simply having difficulty managing a self check-out is certainly not a reason to trespass a customer from a store. These services are not always easy to use. I'm not disabled and I would be terrified and confused if a bunch of cops walked up to me and grabbed me without explaining anything.
This needs to go viral, Target need to be sued for starting this nonesense against this good brother

Although i dont think target as a whole were responsible for this id say that that particular store made a massive error in judgement that should make there store management as liable as the police in this instance.
Whether to go as far as saying target as a company should be liable for not correctly educating its staff on policy's or to take a persons actions as there own mistakes is a difficult one.
At the end of the day though this was messed up and i hope this video goes on a police rookie educational videos of what not to do.
This garbage hits home for me. I’m newly disabled and even today I was going through the self checkout at a Canadian grocery chain. The employee was so sweet to assist me even though I could barely speak to express my needs. It completely boggles my mind to consider that the employees in that section would not immediately assist him.
Then to take the next step to get him trespassed out of the stores by filthy cops. That blows my mind.
Wow……this is THE most shameful policing I’ve seen yet……….I’m actually fcking speechless.
This isn't law enforcement, it's domestic terrorism.
I have a 14 y/o disabled daughter and THIS RIGHT HERE is why the wife and I are so overprotective of her. Demons, tyrants, and evil of all kinds prey on the disabled, but to wear a shield backed by public trust & abuse someone who is CLEARLY disabled goes beyond anything described previously. That's a special level of contemptible excuse for a human being.
❤
Human being?
Mindless-imbeciles.
It doesn't matter to a cop. To them, contempt of cop is contempt of cop regardless of who did it. I know plenty of cops and let me tell you. Believe me when I say that they have no sympathy or empathy for anyone besides other cops
Very well said sir!!!

I can't describe in words how much outright contempt i have for these repugnant bullies.

You should have compassion for them.
The devils and demons have burrowed into their souls.
Cop made the choice but he was listening to The worst voices in his soul.
Does anyone else think these officers need time in a prison cell to reflect on how they treated an obliviously helpless man. Really street justice is needed
Despite his disabilities this poor man knew his rights and he handled himself well. He is worthy of being graded. You shouldn't have taken that away from him.
Agreed. He gets an A.
I agree and think it's low expectations discrimination, however the charges against him were dropped for being unfit to stand trial. I think it's fair that ATA piggybacks off that ruling and doesn't grade him because of it.

Dear police lovers, the next time you say to someone “If you haven’t broken the law you don’t have nothing to worry about “ remember this video
Heck yea!!!
That’s why you judge people individually on basis of character
If they were rational and cared about evidence or justice, they wouldn't be defending police in the first place.

Problem is these police lovers also known as bootlickers back the blue no matter what. It doesn't matter what they do they turn a blind eye and then go overboard praising any officer doing their job the way they should be anyhow.
“If you haven’t broken the law you have something to worry about” is what you wrote means.
This is sad and sickening at the same time! If Target did tresspass him, he has one hell of a lawsuit against them and the officers!
Heartbreaking to watch. I hope this man gets justice.
I’m only 2.5 minutes into this episode and it’s clear that kindness and compassion would have resolved this so easily. 🙄🙄🙄

See? 281 dollar' (cash register sounds) 'thank you' 'you are welcome'
But no. We get 'police' 'protecting and serving' the sh*t out of this man.

@@baskoning9896 I've never heard an American officer say 'Can I help you?' without it being a sarcastic rhetort aimed at someone who was trying to do the right thing by interfering with an illegal stop or detainment, typically someone they went on to brutalise or wrongfully arrest.
Poor guy. Absolutely vile behavior. These officers don't see civilians as human!!! I can't believe this
Cops no longer see America as Mayberry, they see it more like Falugia...... and they see their role as an occupying army.
This is a rare instance where a social worker should have been called to assist the man. Police aren't trained to show compassion
Firing them is not even close to being enough.
Most don't. It's them vs the public. The public is the enemy. A family friend became a cop, and it's like their own cult. He only hangs out with cop friends and abandoned everyone else. Even convinced me not to make a complaint about a cop who wouldn't charge someone after I was attacked in the street. He was on duty at the time and their helicopter was involved tracking people
Ive seen this video multiple times now and every time its just as heartbreaking as before. They way this man was treated is downright criminal.
That young man they arrested has more sense than all them Police Officers combined.
How anyone can treat an individual with disabilities like that is beyond belief. This is truly disgusting and I hope they all are fired.
I hope worse for them

They don't care about people in general let alone disabled people. And I used to hate when people talked like that but unfortunately it's not true cause any cop that sees this and doesn't intervene is just as bad

That fact that a human being looks at this and feels ‘arrest’ is the answer and not ‘help’ is beyond me. Prisons are filled with people like this.. what time are we living in?

I was pissed off too...
As a perfectly able body person I’m enraged! That cop should never be in charge of any thing ever!
Same here. It hurts to see how they treated that man when it´s fairly obvious when he speaks that something is not 100%. They could have handled that so much better just by asking him about his situation in the beginning. As a handicapped disabled man this gets me fuming.

they do not speak for Target,
they do not enforce Target store policy.

This is the state of policing in America. When McDonald's, wendy's, burger king, and Walmart turn down your application you can always become a cop in a few short weeks.
such a diabolical legal system. Every time I think I've seen the worst the US law enforcement has to offer, a video like this comes along. mind blowing.
As the father of two handicapped children, this breaks my heart and infuriates me. I can safely assume it took years to teach the victim to be able to go to the store independently, understand police and security, count money, and so on. Yet the store personnel and police unraveled all that in mere moments… sigh
And to tell him he can never come back to a store that is probably one of few he is close to and feels comfortable shopping at…heartbreaking and enraging.
Heartbreaking.
THIS! My husband and my brother in law have mental disabilities, and it’s such a long process for them to feel confident in themselves to go through the motions of life with their struggles, but for even cops, people who are supposed to pick up on these signals specifically, to ignore them all and act like this is purely infuriating
yes exactly. i imagine the young man is still closely supported by family members and are probably so proud that he has developed some sense of independence. the fact those police officers treated that young man in such an inhumane way was truly shocking and profoundly sad. i cannot understand how not one of the officers prevented this. The fact that the Target employee thought it was right to call the police and have the guy thrown out is equally disgusting. They were all effectively operating under the same principle, that they can prey on and bully and exclude and abuse someone who is "weak". What a horrible horrible thing.
I loved your comment. It was probably a proud thing for the man in this video to be able to handle this on his own. He got a bit confused. Hell, I get confused in those self-check-out lines myself sometimes! The Officers? They were clearly dealing with a mentally incapacitated human being, but they handled him as if he was a criminal. The cop doing all the talking is an animal. His two co-conspirator cops are also animals because they didn't stop this stupid arrest. They deserve whatever hell they go through, especially Skeen, who was in charge.
“Well sucks to suck man” when he said he was getting a lawyer is absolutely disgusting conduct from the officer.
This was hard to watch…I hope Mr. M is doing ok. Proud of his legal team for taking appropriate action.
'I did not see you where cops!' 'we cant help it that you are that slow' (or words to that effect). I was like: WHAT. ARE. THEY. SAYING!
I always hated cops, but these cops... I DESPISE.
Extremely disturbing. This might have been one of the most upsetting incidents I’ve seen in a while. All those employees and police officers could have done was help the man check out and help him on his way. Shameful all the way around.
Within seconds this has my skin crawling- the way Mr. McManus calmly and deftly stands up for himself under such insane and unnecessary mistreatment is heart breaking ❤
“You’re under arrest for resisting arrest”, lol no underlying charges, and then “refusing to provide his name”, which are basically “secondary charges”, with no underlying initial charges.
This behavior is shameful and disgusting.
I've been arrested for resisting arrest. All I did was ask why I was being arrested. I didn't physically resist. They said I was under arrest, I put my hands out to be cuffed. They tackled me down and told me I was resisting. Spent the weekend in jail before arraignment. Felony conviction for asking why I was being arrested.
Didn't find out until later that they had originally stopped me for a traffic warrant. I'd forgotten to pay a ticket. They never told me that on the scene of the arrest or the entire weekend I spent waiting to see a judge.
After the arraignment for felony resisting arrest they sent me home. Didn't even hold me on the traffic warrant.
It's been 20+ years, my license is still suspended because NJ invents new surcharge fines every year for old tickets. I haven't even lived in that state since 1999. Every time I paid them they would create another fine and keep me suspended.
Any interaction with cops can screw up your entire life forever.
I went through the same thing in 2020. I have a 42 minute video posted on my channel with all the statutes that exempted me from every charge that the police officer you legally filed against me. What makes it even worse is that my charges were not dismissed like they should have been instead the district attorney and the judge is all conspire to convicted me even though it's a hundred percent against the written statutes of Pennsylvania.
I was arrested and ticketed for obstructing my arrest because I refused to tell police where I lived.
