that's the voice from within when we hit the rock bottom, and most of the Times we can't put them into words. But the poet is a great scholar .

This ghazal "Na kisi ki aankh ka noor hun" is not present in the Kulliyat of Bahadur Shah Zafar.
It's of Sultan Bahadur Shah Zafar.

This poem belongs to last Mughal Emperor Bahadur shah Zafar , nostalgic :best version to listened Habib wali Muhammad's mellifuent voice . He payed profound homage to ill-omened emperor .
Not a word do I know of Urdu.Yet the sonority the orality are enough for me to like the poem which sound profound.I only wish somehow there was a little bit of translation but does not matter.

What he is saying without saying is that his great grandfather actually wrote this but because Bahadurshah Zafar was a Moghal King, he just declared the ghazal as his own.
Now that the Akhtars are a Bollywood dynasty and no one knows where the descendants of Mughals are, the tables are turned.
Dude you have got no idea what you are talking about. Zafar lived from 1775 to 1862 and khairabadi was born in the year 1865. So if khairabadi wrote it then Zafar would have already been dead by that time. I am not saying who wrote it but if Khairabadi wrote then it was not Zafar who took its credit but he got wrongly credited for it by someone else.

I agree with Irfan Habib. Since there was no copy right, it is easy to claim it away from Zafar. The original maqta or last couplet had the takhallus of Zafar which is usual in ghazals where poet incorporates his or her name. In this new version that is also very beautiful, the takhallus of Zafar has been omitted. They claim that this was not included in the works of Zafar and that in his last 4 years in prison, he was not allowed pen or paper. Well it is stated that he wrote on the walls of his cell and beside, its his style. Down the road, more and more of his works will be claimed by others. It is a pity.
