here i am, watching reviews about some sophisticated luggage systems, knowing full well that i , next time i go on a tour, am just going to strap a backpack to my passengers seat again
That's what I used to do but you've got high weight that's mostly behind the centerline of the rear wheels. Moving from Los Angeles to Dallas on my bike I packed a travel bag placed crosswise on the backseat, a hiking backpack upright on the luggage rack but strapped to the travel bag. and a backpack for my laptop and some smaller items. What a terrible setup. I left work early to get to the bike store and I bought some throwover Nelson Rigg panniers that were only $50 and they made such a difference in my bikes handling. I wasn't touring a lot so that's what I used. Then I started touring a lot. That necessitated a better set up. (The bags would sag into my wheels depending on how that were loaded (I strung a wire from my rear rack to my pegs to keep the bags from trying to occupy the same space as my wheel.) they'd shift, etc.) I bought a used rack and hard bags from an inmate on advrider dot com and that's been my setup since. Worth the upgrade over a backpack.
Lost the left one of my original BMW plastic paneer at 40miles/h, don’t ask why, it crashed into a hard shoulder and a car bumped it back to me. Car took off, fairly damaged in the front. Not only my paneer is still ok and in permanent use but also looks much better now
I would love to spend 1200 plus mounts for the mosco bags instead ive been using nelson rigg bags $200 made my own mounts two years old still water proof 500 mile offroad in death valley including one fall on Mengle pass in the big boulders if you have never rode DV over a thousand miles of dirt roads
Great video gents. Buuuuuuttt, I bought Nelson Rigg Sierra and am LOVING THEM for less than $175. They're waterproof and that's without the liner! I have the liners tossed in there and use them for grocery runs as they charge for bags here in Seattle. I just hand them off to the sacker and Viola! I lower each easily down into the panniers and then bring them right to the kitchen counter when I get home. Oh, and the Nelson Rigg panniers are about 5 pounds per side and yours are the same weight as the hard panniers. I rest my case.
went all the way south from Europe to South Africa with the Mosko's, very happy with em. Even left them outside over night with the security straps mounted. Now i have this nice Souvenir, the red dust/dirt/mud is very persistent
It's like you could read my mind... I'm looking for new panniers and can't decide between MoskoMoto and LoneRider. This comparison is brilliant! Thanks lads!
I chose the LoneRider because I didn't like the look of the backing plate that is left on the bike when the Mosko bags are removed. When the LoneRider quick release comes out, there will be no need for a backing plate to remain on the bike. Also, who wants to drag a wet muddy bag into their tent or hotel room. Just remove the clean dry inner waterproof bag and go on your way.
Fun, informative, and also timely and relevant! My brother purchased the Lone Rider system, and I have been eyeing the Mosko Moto bags for head to head comparison. Thanks, guys!
Great video. I have both and they are excellent systems for the reasons you mentioned. Both extremely durable, fallproof, and convenient. I wouldn't go back to aluminum panniers after using them. The molle system alone makes things that need to be accessible always available for use - water, fuel, goggles, rain gear, etc. The extra minibags on both systems are essential kit for those.
Nice comparison! I use a lot of mosko staff including 35L backcountry panniers. All is good except for ugly wedges that stand out 90% of riding time when I do not use panniers. I wish they had easily removable buckles.
I use the latest Mosko Moto bags, which include two main new features: (1) an aluminium security bar on the roll-top side of the panniers, and (2) a spring-loaded locking tab on the back side of the panniers which slots into the rugged pannier rack slide-mounts. Both of these are lockable and protect against arbitrarily removing the panniers from the bike and the contents from the panniers themselves. I use the aluminium bar in conjunction with a lockable steel braided security strap (also supplied by Mosko Moto) ... essential here in South Africa. I’m totally happy with my Mosko Moto purchase!
Awesome Video. Glad I found your channel actually ( RUclips dumped it in my list..). I was stoked to see what your mate was using as a rack plate, when he removed the Mosko. I second Klaus’s post. Sod paying the cost of the top box. I’d hiff a Military pack on the back and shove a dry sack/s inside ( my fave method ) - or, use an old Motorcycle courier box on the back and fill it with a dry sack/s. I was a Courier for years - worked through several Tropical cyclones and some of the foulest weather imaginable in New Zealand, with, a simple PVC covering around an aluminium frame, which kept everything dry inside ( parcels / documents for delivery ) in some of the worst weather. The top was closed by flipping a larger lid over the “box” which had velcro and overlapped the main box. Simple, effective and cheaper than a few pints at the local.
Loved the vid guys, grinning ear to ear hearing about the on trail clips! I've seen what the skydio can do and man it's wicked. Can't wait to see one of my favorite riders use it!
Hi guys great content as ever. I got the Lone Rider bags, I’m waiting for the quick release system to come. The bags are made of Hypalon, which is incredibly tough, and the bags are collapsable when you take out the inserts.
I’ve got the offset backcountry Mosko panniers and they are simply the best investment I’ve ever made for my Africa Twin. The quick disconnect is seriously one of the best features.
Amazing video, Thanks again Bret. Keep the Duo of you two going with other videos. I love my Mosko panniers, and this confirmed I made the right choice. I know Tusk doesn't seem to get interest from BMW, and large ADV bike riders, but I really wish Bret could get a hold of their line up, because lets be honest, there stuff is more than 50% cheaper and I can't imagine it is 50% of the quality. I would guess they are 75% as good of quality. TEST SOME TUSK LUGGAGE!
Almost went for the Moskos but saw the LoneRiders and changed my mind. Enduristans were the first on my radar and I actually bought the 50l Tornado 2 in mind of buying the Monsoons. Happy with the Tornado though. From what I read the moskos are not waterproof. You need to use an inner bag (correct me if Im wrong) The LoneRiders are waterproof without the inner bag. Also being able to lock them was another reason for my change of heart. That and the various reviews and videos of them being dragged and surviving crashes with next to no damage is what swayed me. But yes.. the price... ouch! Mine will come with the new quick release system (July batch) but the older bags can be retro fitted with it. Also.. Customer service from LoneRider is fantastic and very informative! Same day reply from Anna. That also a huge selling point for me. Looking forward to the long term review.
Perfect timing on this video Bret! I was just researching the hard and soft bag systems last week. My final choices came down to 4 soft bag brands with similar features. So my final decision was based on best quality for my needs and value for money. The French Moto bags were almost double the price of the Mosko bags and IMO not double the value. Other contenders were the Krieg (sold out at the time), Enduristan Evo (no quick release option), Giant Loop RTW also no quick release option. So in the end I decided that the Mosko was the best value with all the quality and features of the others. And it was the lowest price to boot! On top of that they just released version 2 which has even more improved features that Brets video didn’t include. I’m confident I made the right decision for my budget and needs.
As a Canadian who loves Georgia (and surrounding areas) I wish you a good 2021 summer. This will be the second year in 16 years I won’t be riding The Smokies, staying in Suches, and telling lies around the campfire. Be safe, be kind to each other!
As usual, great timing...planning on getting soft bags to supplement the hard ones that came on the bike..looking forward to the drone use as I’m considering getting one👍
Congrats on your new drone. Although... I am convinced that your riding skills paired with your sense of humor alone will make for great videos to come. Better technology is just the icing on the cake, then.
On closing the LoneRider bags. The latch is actually offset so you can slide it into the metal part UNDER the bag. It's a lot cleaner. I think there is a video on it on the LoneRider RUclips page. I have them and love them. Thanks for the great video! (Edit: I did it that way for the first 3 or 4 months until I saw the video)
I have moscos ... 35L and 25 L but they are expandable to an add 18 L I believe...also I have a cable and a padlock that both locks bags to bike as well as contents in bag ... Win Win ... love them
Loved my Mosko Back Country set. 100% would buy again. Sadly had to sell them because I got rid of the big bike and wanted to go rackless on my new 701.
Good review, informative and entertaining. I acquired the Mosko Backcountry panniers this winter and am looking forward to hitting the road with them in April. Ride safe...
Thank you guys for your great comedy explanations✌🏻😂🙌🏻 Recently being exploring the Hungarian TET near the danube river, crossing some overwhelming flooding water and muddy sections of that river🤪✌🏻Of course i flipped my ktm 790adv in a very muddy section and therefore i was so glad being equipped with my sw-motech trax Aluminium panniers✌🏻💪👍 The right pannier was half overed with mud and me & my ktm never been that muddy efore👀🤪😂😂 Never want to imagine how soft panniers may effect on all my gearings inside that pannier🤪🫣👀 For god's sake i could manage to pass that section, cause attitude really matters😉✌🏻✌🏻
I went with the Mosko bags as when I was searching around for the Lone rider bags everybody was having complaints about having them not delivered on time or logistical issues. So Mosko seems to have a great customer base and top notch service. So far I went with the 35 reckless set and the large duffle for the back and my only complaint is I don’t know why I didn’t go with these bags sooner over hard cases. Absolutely adore these.
Amazing video. Well, you better try the Enduristan Monsoon Evo. They weight about 2.5 kg on each side, the cost less they are super super super durable and 100% waterproof, no need for inner bag. They also have a quick release system.
All this great, but the issue is remembering where you put what. I just did Houston to Wyoming to Nebraska back to Houston trip using Kriega bags. They worked great, water proof etc. But if I needed something I’d have to look through all the bags to find it. And inevitably what I needed would be at the back of the last bag I checked. It would be awesome to have one big bag that cover the tail and sides. Open with one zip and everything is there to see. Maybe I’m dreaming
Very nice video boys! One riding buddy had the Moskos and another still has his Lone Riders. The moskos are almost impossible to roll/unroll on cold nights/mornings in the mountains, as the material gets super stiff. They're also heavy bags - much like the Lone Riders. I opted for the Kriega OS bags on the GSA, and now BOTH buddies are green with envy. They're ridiculously light, mount up to the bike in maybe 20 seconds with just TWO straps, have well thought-out mounting plates which can accept Rotopax, etc, and are bombproof tough. Construction is top notch all the way. They remain supple in the cold weather, and with their add-on system can expand neatly and quickly. I run two 32 liter main bags and mount one to three 12 liter bags depending on need. Total capacity up to 136 liters. BOOM!
@@BretTkacs My buddy on his Tiger originally mounted the 45l - it was laughably large. They no longer sell that model, no surprise. He downsized to a 38L (I think). They are heavy bags, no doubt. I was a little stunned at how lightweight the Kreigas are, though the price reflects the quality. They aren't exactly giving them away, but they're worth every penny!
Hey James! We've addressed the stiffness of the original PVC by changing our drybag material to a PU coated Nylon, still 100% waterproof, but much more malleable in colder temperatures.
It's on the list. Paul is going to do the same so I am hoping to campare. Is there any difference between the Touratech suspension and the Tractive? (Tractive makes the Touratech) also the Woody's built wheels vs Dubya built. The wheels are nicer off road and suspension is always a noticable improvement but the combination is amazing. The issue is the price. It is a VERY expensive upgrade.
I went with the Lone Rider bags. Fretting over the cost when we're paying $20K or so for a bike seems silly. I chose these because I like the semi-rigid aspect. The lack of a quick release is a downside, but since you can just take the interior bag with you, it doesn't really matter. The only reason I like removing the bags is for offroading, not to take them into a hotel or something. And they're working on a quick release. I also prefer the material, which I believe is the same stuff that life rafts are made from but I could be wrong. What finally sold me was a video out there of someone pushing a bike with the bags off the back of a truck and dragging it down a road. There was almost no damage to the bag.
I have Lone Riders and one time I would've had a real problem not being able to detach them from the bike. I needed to squeeze through a small opening and luckily I didn't carry my gear. Later that day I took the red bag out, but all the stuff I needed for 2 weeks into it, folded the bags and went off. 2 weeks with very minimal gear was kind a frustrating. It was snowing and I had no spear clothing... I needed my camping gear
I've just watched a review on the latest LoneRider bags, and the bags are properly bolted to the plates, which are then locked to the bike as Paul explained. The video is on their website.
Oh yeah? Well I have the Altrider bags, actually they are not that great, Ok but not great. I will get the Mosko Bags for sure next time. I love your final comments by the way, attitude really does matter.
Tnx for bringing this vid, obviously, they both great solution for caring your gear, however, IMHO, Lone Rider top notch, they are Semi- Rigid, mean they are caring the advantages of both, Soft & Hard Panniers, capacity wise 45L & 38L same as BMW OEM (Unfortunately they downscaled the size, to 38L-31L which make no sense to me ) Molee Webbing, tons of options for attachments, they are lockable, you don't need to schlep them or worry when the bike is unattended, caring to the hotel rooms, well, this argument got very little merit, hotel rooms are, mainly, for Harley Guys, and besides, you just need to pull the waterproofed inner bag out and take only what you need, why should I schlep the whole thing into my hotel room .... they, literally, Undistractable, I met few guys along the ways complaining about the Mosko durability, pointing to open seams, worn straps Etc. My pickup is the 45L-38L Lone Rider, no doubt
Excellent comparison of the two pannier systems. I've been looking at these recently. Since watching your video I now prefer the Mosko system due to its lower weight and ease of fitting to the bike.
I have the Lone Rider 31/38L motobags and they are very well built. Install of the Touratech racks and the Lone Rider bags was an out-of-body-experience putting on my Africa Twin.
Just switched from hard bags to the Mosko Moto Backcountry 35. I should have done this years ago. Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Loan Rider Moto tent. Maybe you do a review on the tent sometime.
I just bought their ADV tent. Pretty good overall. I wish the zippers were a little higher quality, but the rest of it seems well-made. I'll be testing it out in the spring.
What I like about BMW’s vario panniers is the lack of a huge rack when you take them off for a day ride. Plus, they lock up easily & with Kathy’s liners make it easy to get your stuff to your room. For hard core off road however, soft bags look to be the ticket.
I’ve had both Mosko and Lone Rider on Adventure bikes, and they’re both good, the Mosko are incredibly tough, they actually require a bit of break in time. But they’re too big for lightweight Adventure. For lightweight ADV I think the Kriega OS-18 is a great enduro style system, with an Ortlieb roll top across the seat between them if you need extra.
Agreed I only like hard paniers for more road-focused trips where you are spending a lot of time at hotels or maybe just parked outside restaurants, etc. to prevent thieves from just cutting them open.
Hello Guys Thanks for the video and comparison. Really easy to understand for foreigners. The only problem is that i spent most of my time laughing during the competition. Thumbs up and subscription.
I would be shocked if the Backcountry 35 bags weigh only 9 pounds as stated at 6:37. I have a set of them and I love them. However, although I haven't weighed them empty I would bet that they weigh MORE than the Touratech aluminum panniers. Great video. Thanks!
Soft panniers with space left in them (not full), does hinder the bikes fall less. Hindering the bikes fall if often a good thing. The odds is very much for the leg being in front of the panniers, so a hard one can actually save the leg from being squeezed/crushed. A very full soft pannier also protects, but... All in all, I think you are to categoric. You seldomly know exactly what kind of accident you’re going to face when dropping the bike. Often hard panniers protects your legs, rather than being a threat! It depends, and it depends on so many things... I use both soft and hard panniers, depending on the trip. And actually, if I can see an advantage that is really significant with the hard panniers, it is on very long runs (say >10000 km rides) where you need to (or wanna...☺️) bring a lot if stuff, including things that needs protection. Also - they are great dinner chairs and tables! 😆
Was looking at the Bumot Extremada softpanniers, because of the quick-release system and I was weighing that against the Lone Rider panniers, without. Price also important: LR bags twice as expensive. Then came the quick release system with the LR panniers: I am taking delivery of a set this week :-)!
Thanks you two; you are two of the most informative riders on the web. Question: Very curious to get your thoughts on rackless systems having given them a shot. Seems like a win; reduced weight and price especially mosko 80L rackless. Love the channel. Thanks.
Too late, Mosko Reckless it is. I'm waiting for the season to try it, it looks very small for specified volume :-( 70+ liter were enough for my trekking backpack for many years, and 75+ liters of moto luggage looks like I never will be possible to pack my equipment. It is strange!
My Kriega OS32+OS22 weigh 5.2kg (11.5 lbs) and instead of using the mounting plate i just welded on brackets on the standard tube frame which again saves weight and doesn't look as bad when you ride without the bags. Removal is not as fast as moskomoto but still fine for my taste! Only downside is you unlock them from the frame by opening them. So in case you forget to close them properly they can fall off.
Having a Multistrada V4S I have the stock panniers (made by Givi) that came with it and are great in torrential downpours & I got a Shad Terra top box but I use the top box more than anything as its easy to store my gear in securely & not fiddle around with the soft luggage. I also have the Kreiga 40l soft bag system and like it as I don’t have to buy the side mounts etc etc just to mount it, work on any bike & looks nice when I don’t want to use my soft bags, no bag mounts needed. I like them but in some ways are a PITA getting in & out of, pro’s and con’s to both really. I’ve had my Kreiga for a while on my other bike & transferred them to my V4S, I got tired of it a little bit on a long trip I took, panniers, top box I can keep on it overnight & pretty secure but accessibility is a huge plus. All good systems for sure
Hey Bret, what about the Scout 25s? They are way more affordable and look pretty good too, a bit more practical as well, because you can take out the dry bags and use the rest of the system for carrying pretty much anything. Or take one bag, put it on as a backpack and put a bag of groceries in its place.
These are probably the two best brands on the market, just to indicate that today Lone Rider already has the quick mounting and dismounting of suitcases, but this is useful for short trips, since for long trips and OFF ROAD, maybe the old flange system gives me more security. This I will see in time.
While not as fast to disconnect, I like the ADV Rider mounts because I do a lot of day trips without paniers and being able to remove most of the rack that quickly would be a benefit for me when doing more gnarly stuff either on a day trip or a truck camping adventure. Then if only removing once a day to go sleep in a motel room, really not that big of a deal to remove. Although if it's that easy to remove with a screw driver and you can just cut them open with a knife, I don't see much use in the padlock.
Thank you very much big brothers 🤣 form Türkiye İstanbul we are following you and we are very much love you . We are have very big a enduro grup done meeting we are working yours lessons
If you want text notification for new videos, text "Tkacs" to 888-306-7782 (now say that 5 times fast... "text Tkacs to"
The two of you need to do more videos together. The banter of old friends cannot be beat.
Agreed. I especially enjoyed thay.

I've never seen a comparison test, based on the "Anything you can do, I can do better" theme. Original, effective, and just plain fun. Well done.

I love the dueling banjos review of these products. Y’all are the Smothers Brothers of bike reviews!
I loved the intro. I re-watched it an undisclosed number of times.
The rest of the video was good too.
I really like this format of product comparison, more entertaining than one guy just rambling on about pros and cons.
Best comedy I have seen for a while with useful information. Paul is a hoot!

Good demonstration and explanation of the pros of these bags. Your banter and charisma helped make this video more enjoyable.
I've had the Mosko Moto Reckless 40L for a while and I love it. I'd absolutely buy it again.
This was one of the most enjoyable videos in a long time ... that I've watched on youtube!

Great stuff guys, may just have to change out my old hard panniers for the semi-rigid. Great presentation with humour. love it.
Great intro.... lol.... and another great video! Love the both of you! Thank you for all you do!
Good tip!
The Kriega OS series seemed like the best bang for the buck for me. I like the semi rigid bags that are modular.
I have moscos ... 35L and 25 L but they are expandable to an add 18 L I believe...also I have a cable and a padlock that both locks bags to bike as well as contents in bag ... Win Win ... love them
As always, very instructional. Larry the Cable guy adds that extra special touch.
Thank you guys for your great comedy explanations✌🏻😂🙌🏻
Recently being exploring the Hungarian TET near the danube river, crossing some overwhelming flooding water and muddy sections of that river🤪✌🏻Of course i flipped my ktm 790adv in a very muddy section and therefore i was so glad being equipped with my sw-motech trax Aluminium panniers✌🏻💪👍 The right pannier was half overed with mud and me & my ktm never been that muddy efore👀🤪😂😂 Never want to imagine how soft panniers may effect on all my gearings inside that pannier🤪🫣👀
For god's sake i could manage to pass that section, cause attitude really matters😉✌🏻✌🏻
BOOM!
The weight of the Lone Riders is my biggest complaint
@@BretTkacs My buddy on his Tiger originally mounted the 45l - it was laughably large. They no longer sell that model, no surprise. He downsized to a 38L (I think). They are heavy bags, no doubt. I was a little stunned at how lightweight the Kreigas are, though the price reflects the quality. They aren't exactly giving them away, but they're worth every penny!
Hey James! We've addressed the stiffness of the original PVC by changing our drybag material to a PU coated Nylon, still 100% waterproof, but much more malleable in colder temperatures.
@@MoskoMoto that's great to hear.
I would really love a detailed video of the upgrades and modifications that you have done to your bike Bret.
Agree 100%, I did the same.
They ship with a QR now but would you trust a first gen design???? Wait for them to fine tune it.
This vid popped up and boy I loved that intro 😆👍
Good entertaining comparison guys. You have a new subscriber from the UK. 🙂🏍🧡
Lock system is useless when you can remove the entire system with just a screwdriver 😂
To true... They do sell a bolt through option or a lock option.
I'd guess most opportunistic thieves would not know about the 1/4 turn fasteners, but point taken.
I've just watched a review on the latest LoneRider bags, and the bags are properly bolted to the plates, which are then locked to the bike as Paul explained. The video is on their website.
the point is to stop opportunist thieves ... whos just walking by duh, use your brain
Love that saying "ill be there when I get there"......
Nothing better than Mosko Moto. Love all their bags...
Glad I went back and watched this. Enjoying the banter and chemistry you 2 have. I just got the Moskomoto bags for my Pan America.
For lightweight ADV I think the Kriega OS-18 is a great enduro style system, with an Ortlieb roll top across the seat between them if you need extra.
is mosko too big for CB500X
Brett/ Paul, great video! You two make a great team. Best wishes in the future!
Cheers!
Agreed I only like hard paniers for more road-focused trips where you are spending a lot of time at hotels or maybe just parked outside restaurants, etc. to prevent thieves from just cutting them open.
Loved the fact they actually did actual bike falls on the rack sys especially on big bikes
Hello Guys
Thanks for the video and comparison. Really easy to understand for foreigners.
The only problem is that i spent most of my time laughing during the competition.
Thumbs up and subscription.
Great 👍. I had so much fun by watching the most laughing pannier comparison 😂. Thanks an greetings from Germany.
I would be shocked if the Backcountry 35 bags weigh only 9 pounds as stated at 6:37. I have a set of them and I love them. However, although I haven't weighed them empty I would bet that they weigh MORE than the Touratech aluminum panniers. Great video. Thanks!
Keep up these types of videos!! Thanks
The Waldorf an Stadler of the ADV world ❤❤❤❤❤
😂😂😂😂😂
Awsome job guys, all the best from UK 🇬🇧
Thanks you two; you are two of the most informative riders on the web. Question: Very curious to get your thoughts on rackless systems having given them a shot. Seems like a win; reduced weight and price especially mosko 80L rackless. Love the channel. Thanks.
What an entertaining way to review something as boring as bags! Great team!
Too late, Mosko Reckless it is. I'm waiting for the season to try it, it looks very small for specified volume :-( 70+ liter were enough for my trekking backpack for many years, and 75+ liters of moto luggage looks like I never will be possible to pack my equipment. It is strange!
LOVED that intro!!
Another nice set to try is the kriega OS series. I have them in my r1200gs. And I love them
Been watching your videos lately, very interesting. I quite like this Paul guy, funny; he's a keeper!
Paul and I teach all of the ADV training Camps and Tours together. We have been working together for over a decade.
@@BretTkacs you guys have a real good interaction, i love it!
Congratulations on that drone. Wish that was available in India. Have been trying to get it here
Love it man. Yes you guys do more. Very fun vid.
Both are great, but i like the lone rider more.
Really nice video. Good job. Funny and informative.
Realy enjoyed everytime Paul was taking his bag off... :D
Hey Bret, what about the Scout 25s? They are way more affordable and look pretty good too, a bit more practical as well, because you can take out the dry bags and use the rest of the system for carrying pretty much anything. Or take one bag, put it on as a backpack and put a bag of groceries in its place.
The back-and-forth oneupsmanship reminded me of "The Four Yorkshiremen" skit. Pre-Monty Python genius! Thanks for the review of the gear, too.
These are probably the two best brands on the market, just to indicate that today Lone Rider already has the quick mounting and dismounting of suitcases, but this is useful for short trips, since for long trips and OFF ROAD, maybe the old flange system gives me more security. This I will see in time.
Most humorous Bret Tkacs video I've seen.
Congratulations on your new drone!
My Mosko Moto Nomad tankbag was my gateway drug. Now it's down the rabbit hole I go!
I will save you a seat at the bottom, my friend! 🤣
