i’m from oxford, ms, where michael went to college. people have been tearing him apart and their main point is that the Touhey’s didn’t need the money because their money runs deep. but in my opinion, i think he’s telling the truth, at least mostly. i can’t imagine how bad it feels to find out the people you thought were family took advantage of you. hopefully he finds some kind of peace after this.

I am a legal assistant at a law firm in Tennessee. I do family law, specifically conservatorships and adoptions. They are absolutely nowhere near the same thing. I was actually adopted by my step dad in May, so adults can certainly be adopted; we do them allllll the time. Just a little extra info :)
So what happens in a conservatorship if the ward has no assets at all? Like in Michael Oher's case, the conservatorship was created when he was a teenager in high school and didn't have a penny to his name. Is it possible that his doesn't even define a bank account? If there are no assets linked to it , would they still be required to do annual fiduciary reporting?
@@aldoabruzzi6417 I believe it may vary state-to-state but in TN if the Ward doesn’t have assets exceeding $25,000, then an annual accounting doesn’t have to be filed.

So that makes me think that Sean Tuohy is telling the truth when he says that the conservatorship was ONLY created to make them his guardians and satisfy the NCAA... and to be able to put Michel on Sean's family health, dental and auto insurance. Since Michael was a kid with no assets when it was created, they did no annual accounting. It was used while he was in college, but once he graduated and went to the NFL... it wasn't needed and was forgotten all these years. Michael was hiring his own agents, signing his own contracts, making his own investments and banking his own money. I mean, if the Tuohys ever tried to use it to mess with his contracts or finances, his agent and accountant would be all over that. Makes perfect sense why it's still there after all these years and had no reporting.... or am I missing something?
@@emmasophia3482 Could the fact that there were no assets involved also be the reason why the judge let this thing go through even though Oher wasn't mentally handicapped in any way.... and why they didn't insist on a GAL?

Can definitely adopt past age 18. I was raised by my grandparents and the whole adoption thing was never a big deal so we never did it. But then once I reached 24, if I still wanted to be on their military health insurance as a full time student until 26, I would have had to be adopted. So they adopted me at age 24.

That is so deceiving to put him in a conservatorship and claim it “makes him legally part of the family”. Adult adoptions vary state to state but to outright lie about the conservatorship is super sketchy. The Toueys are typical yt saviors.
Not everyone does things to be vindictive they may have don't it for his best interest and no facts have come out that they made a bunch of money off of him. But they must not be on good terms if you have to sue your family for financial info.
Chef P does need help, but from a therapist. I hope she gets it. I hate to see people not supporting an independent female run business but you have to have integrity and she isn’t showing any.
She is just a scammer. That sauce was never her own recipe, it was just a bottled sauce dyed with food dye and she doubled down and refused to admit it, which is why when Dave's Gourmet got her "recipe" it wasn't usable and they had to completely reformulate it 🙄 Now she is trying to scam her followers and extort Dave's Gourmet, who probably already made a loss on this whole mess.

And the GAL would have advised him what? Go ahead... play it through your mind once and hear how it sounds.

I know that in divorce/custody cases, family judges usually won't appoint a GAL unless one parent is accusing the other parent of abuse or improper parenting... or there is some evidence that the kid is troubled and may have been abused. There is usually some level of uncertainty or suspicion that the agreement might not be in the child's best interest.
- He was finally getting health and dental insurance at 18
- He was getting car insurance for the truck they bought him
- He was getting a chance to go to the college he wanted
- It gave them control over money and contracts he didn't have yet and might not EVER have
- And if he didn't like the arrangement... he was already an adult who could ask the court to end it at any time. (like he's doing now)
With Michael Oher's horrendous past, his OBVIOUS improvement with the Tuohys, AND his birth mother's consent... why would the judge suspect for a second that this agreement might not be in his best interest? It doesn't surprise me at all that the GAL was waived.

Unfortunately, I think if they were just given bad legal advice on the conservatorship vs adoption route and it was just about him going to Ole Miss, they would've sought to end the conservatorship themselves at least by the time he finished college or something. He's a whole retired professional football player at this point. There is no reason it should still be active. I'm so disappointed, but now I'd like to read his book on his real story.

Everything that was done was in favor of the Tuohy's. Everything legally done they used their contacts and friends!

Savy writes books on RUclips did such an in depth video on the whole blind side scandal. She reviews all the books that so many people wrote and it goes so much deeper than I could’ve ever dreamed! Absolutely insane and revolting behavior from the Touhy parents

Kudos ladies! One of the more balanced segments out there on this subject. I particularly like the way you included both those quotes from his autobiography, but most people are missing the important words in there :
_"It kind of felt like a formality, as _*_I’d been a part of the family for more than a year at that point_*_ . Since I was already over the age of eighteen and considered an adult by the state of Tennessee, Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my “legal conservators.” They explained to me that it means pretty much the exact same thing as “adoptive parents,” but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account."_
And as you show, later in that same paragraph he writes:
_"My mother was supportive of the whole thing and there wasn’t a whole lot of emotion all around because it was just a matter of formalizing the way _*_we’d all been living for the past year._*_ "_
His conservatorship was filed on August 9, 2004. (the summer before his senior year) So when he writes that he "was part of the family for more than a year" and repeats it later with "...been living for the past year" - that takes him back to the summer before his junior year... and he played NO football at Briarcrest until his junior year. In another paragraph he details how he was practically living there most of his junior year. Michael Oher *constantly* downplays how long he lived with them in a despicable attempt to cast suspicion on their motives for taking him in. As we can plainly read, his book says he was already a part of their family BEFORE they ever saw him play football at all. Now he keeps stressing: "I was already an All-American when they asked me to move in that summer"... making it look like the Tuohys were these evil "boosters" - only interested in him as a football talent for their Alma Mater and grifting off his fame. So which is it Michael.... and exactly what is your definition of "move in"?
As for it being "his life story" and deserving all the money... did we see the same movie? The Blind Side is NOT Michael Oher's life story... it is not a biography. The movie begins when he starts at Briarcrest, and ends when he starts at Ole Miss. It is a movie about the RELATIONSHIP between him and the Tuohys over that 3-year slice of his life when he was in high school. It is as much their story as it is his. They deserve to be paid... their names and stories are being told too. I'd be curious to see if the Leigh Anne role had as almost as much screen time as the Michel Oher role did. The movie was about ALL of them. And do you really think Hollywood would have EVER made a movie about some *offensive tackle* at Ole Miss that few people even heard of?

I read that in order to get it, they had to declare that Micheal had a learning disability which they portrayed in the movie. We know now he doesn’t have a disability.
And about the adoption, if they adopt him, would he be included in the division of goods after they are gone?
She wants to claim he knew, but there is multiple videos of her giving speeches at MLM conferences saying he was her son and that they adopted him.

I am so happy for you, Sydney! I wish you the best and a wonderful life! I am watching this on 9/7/2023, and it is my wedding anniversary. My husband and I have been married for a long time. Listening to you all about seeing all of our family at our wedding and for the family to gather again at our funeral. It is sad but true. My husband wanted something other than a videographer and a photographer. I am so glad that I ignored him and had both. I get to see my dad ( who passed away a while back), and My hubby's dad passed 6 mos before mine. I don't regret having a big wedding. I do plan to have a small funeral ;).

My husband and I got married in Jamaica. We wrote our own vows. I was most excited for the week long family vacation with our parents and 2 kids! For the wedding part I was most excited for us to read our vows. I was crying from laughing! We had been together 7 years when we got married. Our vows were almost identical.

In regards to how they portray oher as dumb it's not just about the school thing like that's understandable like some kids do struggle so that's okay to portray but the part that really grinds my gears is- and even O'Her pointed it out back then- was the movie made him seem as if he never picked up a football in his life, which is a flat out lie oher specifically pointed this out i think it was in an ENews special right around the time the movie was popular. Meanwhile Sandra Bullock's character is over here teaching him how to hike of football as if he were an alien😅.
I followed Leanne and Collins on Instagram for about three years now and since then never once has or appeared in any of their Instagram’s family posts, and some videos that they post you can see old pictures of him of the family, but recent pictures of the all of them was at Collins wedding, from what’s on their Instagram.
