Can't wait to see the whole thing! Being a Seabee for 20 years was the greatest thing in my life and now my son is enlisting as a Seabee and I could not be any prouder of him sharing in my Seabee heritage.
My Dad was a retired EOC. Retired in 1975. From 1955 to '75 he was in almost every battalion everywhere from Alaska to Van Denberg to 3 tours in Viet Nam then out to Cuba for his last tour. We were proud of him but didn't know just how proud until we couldn't tell him anymore. RIP Pop! John R. Beard.
my dad was a 17 year old who went into the CB 's in 1943 as a 17 yo. he was as part of the 11th special billion at Okinawa. I attended several reunions with him and meet remarkable men
My father was a SeaBee in the 50's trained by men like your father. His unit was based out of Guam. Most people do not understand what it is to take what is available and make it work. I do. I was raised can do. And yes dad hated spit and polish. The word Ensign translated to pain in the ASS. So I was taught.
Please let us know when the movie is completed and released. I most certainly will purchase a copy. My Dad was in the 9th Special Stevedore Battalion during the war. His job was unloading the massive amount of cargo that was needed to supply our fighting forces. And for those who don't know their SeaBee history, the SeaBee's had Boatswains Mates back then. My Dad was a BM2 and proud of it.
There's a story from WW2 that a damaged ship pulled into port. SeaBee told the ship's captain " 48 hours to repair it. " Ship's captain said " Impossible! " 48 hours later, the ship was heading back to sea. I believe the ship's captain couldn't praise enough about the SeaBees.
My dad was a Seabee on Saipan and Tinian, 92 NCB. He did all the surveying work for the ramp and bomb pits used to load the atomic bombs on the Enola Gay and Bock's Car. He passed away in 2009.
Grandfather was a Seabee in the 105th battalion, company A-5 in WW2. I have some great letters and pictures about his time in New Guinea and the Philippines. These guys were absolutely salt of the earth, and the war was won in large part because of them.

My Dad was also in the 9th Special Stevedore Battalion, if that is the outfit you are talking about. He was a BM2. I still have the cruise book from back them as well as a photo scrapbook that he made during the war. He was on Munda and Rendova as well as some other islands. He stayed in construction for his entire life. Sadly, he passed away in 1989, two months before I retired from the Navy.
I as with many people seem to lose focus on what is real and precious. And to me that was being a SeaBee Steelworker for 20 years of my life. Made many good friends, traveled to some cool places, established good relationships with the locals and my co-workers. Would not do anything different, too many good memories.
I was stationed with NMCB 133 12/81 to 10/85, as a MS3(cook) I can truly say what a bunch of f...... animals on liberty I was with them, but the projects they did on deployment made me proud to wear OD green, and there was no better group of guys to have your back. thank you all for serving "CAN DO"
The first speaker, Senior Chief Koenig is a genius. You need to know anything about the Bees or building, that's the man to see. I've picked his brains so many times from admin to building concrete forms when I was with NMCB-22. I'm a retired Equipment Operator 1st Class and I'm proud to have served with the greatest group of men and women in the Navy, and to be a part of Seabee history. Can Do.
The Navy Seabees have a logo; "CAN DO!" It is so drummed in to them in the most thorough training on earth that they look at an impossible job...and do everything they can to make it possible....then complete it in short-time! --- NMCB-74 Vietnam 4th Tour; DaNang, Hue, Ham Tan--1970 & 1971
