I could kick myself in the ass now, for joining the Army, instead of the Seabees. A neighbor buddy of mine did, served, 4 years bulldozing at Gitmo, and came home to a sweet job with the local Department of Public Works. Also was a lifelong Seabee reservist. Never married, owned his own home, the truck he wanted, fishing boat, and all the toys that go with that. In short, a lifetime of security, based on that one decision, at high school graduation.
Remember reading about Seabee surveyors laying out a runway on a Pacific island while half of the runway was still a battlefield contested ground area. Rodman carrying the rod & a rifle.
Anyone else notice that the Pledge Of Allegiance was missing "under God" in the recital? This means this film was made certainly before June of 1954, when those words were added.
Verry hard to get into CBs.You have to have prior construction experience.A lot of it,too. And if you think they'e gonna let you go to "A" school once you're in the fleet, forget it. My company commander was a CB who hated the old "crackerjack"uniform.I hated him.
"Can Do!" Much respect to the Seabees, from former USAF.
Crazy to think that my grandfather and Great Uncle saw this video. They were SeaBees
My Uncle was a CB in WWII. I remember wearing a CB "T" shirt as a kid.
My grandfather served in the Seabees on Guadalcanal during WWII
Thanks from a fellow Bee to your grandfather for his service!
My father was a Seabee in WWII on Okinawa! I miss you!
God bless your dad for his service to our great nation.
@@PeriscopeFilm Thank you 🙏
I was a Steelworker in the CB's while Ronald Reagan was President. Stationed at ACB-1 CORONADO, CALIFORNIA.

My dad joined the SeeBees because the army wouldn’t take him because he had flat feet.
Seabees Can Do, even with flat feet! Thanks from a fellow Bee!
My grandfather served in WW2 and was a Seabee.
Interesting: At 8:30 they recite the pledge without the "under God."
Added in '54 to show the big bad godless commies that pure right America had nukes and God on it's side so behave.
Eisenhower signed a bill in 1954 to add the phrase ‘under God’ to the pledge of allegiance

Some of these young men would have been drafted into Korea soon anyway I imagine. Better deal to enlist now I'd think.
wonderful
Where do I sign up?
Wait, are you saying that "Under God" was not in the pledge?
It was added later for political reasons.
correct. its first 40 odd years did not contain any affiliation between patriotism and religion.
It was added in June of 1954!
Note that the pledge of allegiance, didn't have "under God" in it yet.
Interesting they didn't say "under God" in the pledge. Wasnt that only added in the mid 50s?
👍

When they said the Pledge of Allegiance they did not say it right go back and watch it I don't understand why one nation under God is not in there
That was not added until later
not added until 1954, at the behest of McCarthy, as a counter to those 'godless soviets'. was not part of the pledge for its first 40 years.
Those words were added in June of 1954!
your papers comrade....
Interesting to hear all the pro-union comments. I don't think you'd get those nowadays!
My grandfather was a seabee.
Many thanks from a fellow Bee to your grandfather for his service
