- This is my new 15" JBL woofer!!!!Its 800rms (waaaaaaaay under rated) and 5000w peak. Got a slot box to put it in and once im finished will post videos of the beast in action. Please leave comments on ur views in this woofer!!!!
I love how JBL gives some of their subs that "wrinkled paper" look on the cone. It makes it looks beastly. That's what attracted me to the p1224's lol.
I think a it looks amazing. it looks like an alien space ship.
RMS (Route mean square) is 0.707 of peak to peak wattage value.
There was a figure generated, and still used which is peak music power which is double peak to peak wattage.
So 71W(RMS) = 100W(PTP)=200W(PMP)
and these were inputs powers not outputs, so no refelection how effeciant the unit was.
Often speakers used in car are tighter than domestic to stop rumble from travel over rough tarmac, so less effecient.
This is what I remember from 30 years ago, so may be less than correct.

I like JBL, but I firmly believe that car audio manufacturers should really consider a different material instead of paper pulp in the cones of their high end drivers.
Im running a single 15 in my turbo sprint. Sealed at about 2' for now. Type r's don't even compare to the way these sound. I had 2 12" on 1500 watts. They are just power hungry. Hit very hard but they're not musical and do not play low enough. gti's probably play a whole octave lower. They play super low but also plkay super tight and hit very hard. I love it because it sings and I can't wait to build a ported pox for it. Or maybe double if my body can handle it. Or car. lol

You guys should do your research. The magnet is neo. So not much magnet and lots of heat sink. It also has 2 magnetic gaps so both coils work in separate field. when excursion gets long one coil moves into the next one and keeps pulling. So if this speaker was using regular magnets it would probably be triple the weight to get the same force. It's no slouch at 32 pounds but it is very large. It looks as deet as it is round. Quite crazy looking. And the cone is VERY stiff.

i guess cus its damn light...and with the kevlar mixed in it, its pretty stong too! for eg, the RE XXX also has a paper cone, although it covers it with a top inverted cone made of polymica. Paper is the way to go.
i'd buy this one for a mix of sound quality and sound pressure. sure there are plenty of louder drivers today but this one was around back in 2002 and has amazing sound quality (speed)
That sub is one of the baddest subs on the market today. Believe it!!
Man it's hilarious reading these old comments. People saying this sub isn't as good as some other brands and to this day this is the most sought after Sq sub ever. Shows people just he talking out the side of their heads...

these subs are way under rated because i read somewhere that they lasted like 10 minutes before blowing on 17 times the rms wattage
really nice maybe you should make a video of the excursion^^
just make sure run in double core, it will make sounds much better (personally)
i had 15" running by Crown amplifier, sounds great to me

@djronone Not the subs problem, its the user. If you use the right rms power and don't turn the gains on the amp all the way up, they'll last a long time.
for all you guys dat want to see it in action...im having a little break at the moment with the audio and will have it all hooked up and bouncing in a couple of months.

now now, dont be hatin on the JL. I have 2 JBL W15GTi's powered by 2 JL 1000/1 Black Edition amps. Both brands have mad skills in the audio realm

800 rms is PLENTY OF POWER, this sub is rated at 800 rms, hose peak ratings are rated for MILLISECONDS, it can hit 5k watts for maybe 10 MILLISECONDS. if you ran 2k watts rms into it you'd blow it in a month. please do not take this kids word at face value.
yes i plan to....just bin reaaaaaaaaaal busy at the mo! Got a gto1201.1 amp to power it off a couple of weeks ago...should get some nice bass from it..about 900wrms tops...700wrms easily which is still plenty.
this is a funny comment box. everyone hating on the jackhammer, why? cause its expensive and its 130+ DB. how is it sorry lol? i thnk people are mad at it cause they cant afford it. same with the W7. 99% of you people cant afford it anyways. why hate. Its build solid. anything will break if u put too much power too it. so will the Jackhammer. not indestructible by any means. well all got different taste. most of u guys never owned any sub your talking about.

JBL! the BEST!
Don't get me wrong, I love JBL. They have a great line of low to high end subwoofers, excellent for anyone getting their first system to those who have bills to burn. But I just feel that paper is a poor choice of material in a top-of-the-line woofer. I've seen my fair share of paper cones coming apart, it's no fun especially when the woofer is $600. Plastic really is no better. Glass fiber, kevlar, and carbon fiber would be better cone materials.

@jblsoundpower 800rms for the 15, 700 for the 12, 600 for the 10. 800rms is right. But all can take way more power.

Plenty of subs leave it in the dust though. Such as DC audio, FI/AA, SSA, Sundown.. the list goes on. Sexy looking sub, thats for sure though.
well i got a 1201.1 JBL on it at the mo...does an ok job...i guess its getting about 900rms so not bad I know it can take twice that much but still shakes my entire car!!

its only rated 800rms...but this thing could eat up 1500w rms easily all day long...if its clean power that is!! i got it at half of retail price :)

I have w10gti's and w12gti's I would not use anything but GTI!!! try the new jbl gto14001 which will give about 1200 watts! I'm gonna get that 15 next. i'm running the w12gti with a rockford fosgate type rf X5 that puts out about 900 watts on that sub in a ported box. the sound is unreal
I've got two of the old model on a pair of JL 1000/1 amps and it's PLENTY. Get a 4 cu ft box and slot-port that hoe, and strap on an amp that will cleanly put out a good 1500+ watts into your sub's impedance. Then you'll be rockin.
@sh4ts its also cheap and a proven material to make subwoofers out of. it can sound just as good, if not better, than all the new stuff coming out on the market today.
no they r not, this 15"inch is 800wRMS and thats way under rated, ppl run 1500w through it dailey, Type R's are budget priced SLP subs, these are SLP and SQ, sound quality! ask anyone who owns JBL GTi's
im from wolves man w midlans to, i got the JBL W12GTi, the 12" version of this, i think these beat the Alpine Type R by far
@sh4ts Yeah i love the re xxx 15 lol i just bought one got my system hooked up and after 10sec my battery light comes on cant wait to put in the new alternator and a second batt then get to really use it.
JBL was here way before JL was In the Professional audio anyway

@nirosh89 Nor paper, nor plastic... Light weight Fiberglass cone like Digital Designs uses. Super hard non flex cone and super light. :) Flex is not good at all. Causes cancelations.

dont be silly guys....ok JBL was dumb for having such a crap rms and peak rating...but everyone knows this thing can easily take around 1500rms and peak at easily 3000w+. This was a SPL competition sub...and it didnt lose!!
kicker is livin loud, but that's it. they "slam" but it's not clean and smooth. the Solo subs are meant for one thing... to be loud, but they flex so much, they are SHITTY for a good clean sound

meh get a mtx jack hammer but they like 4hundred punds and cost bout 30k so if u got 30k i reccomend the jackhammer

That or carbon fiber IMO. I just can't stand seeing paper as the material choice for top-of-the-line subwoofers.

oh man, mine two TYPE-R alpine can take 5kw peak sinus (2-3s) and looks like new after test.

maybe dc sundown and many others underground companies are louder but they are not sound quality subz I've heard sundown dc and they move lots of air big boom and that's it !!!

Or you could just get 2 Fi BTL's fully loaded and put up a way higher SPL than a jackhammer.. Jackhammer = Over rated and over priced.. But then again I guess thats MTX in general.

these subs are just sick,.,.,.,. the best of both worlds they have great SQ and great SPL , check out my system
