1. I wouldn't pressure wash a 80s/90s VAG engine either. They hadn't mastered waterproofing electronics. 2. Try tar remover on the black stuff. My guess is it is dirt and grease with oil mixed in, so that is pretty much what tar is (growing up in Southern California with beaches filled with tar from oil rigs taught me a lot).

You should've used a combination of Tar remover, water spot remover, and an iron remover. There are different kinds of contaminations that appear in the engine bay, especially in ones that are not cleaned frequently.

@rubenharris9241 He is in Belgium. But still, anyone who has Google translate can set the first part language to German and the second language to English, then write Koch Chemie and hit the sound button, learn how to pronounce it correctly and know in English what it means.

Yes it is but not as a "weekly routine". You can use it once in a few months to deep clean your coating and restore it
