    So almost 2 months later, I have played this guitar even more since the mod, I have NO intention of swapping it back, very minimal real term volume loss when using the position and inspiring Peter green tone for days. I think starting out with a good set of pickups made a good bit of difference and feel ive saved myself £100s buying some boutique greeny ones. Since the Gibson Greeny standard has come out too, and that made me even more pleased I did it! Thanks folks!

    Wow great job man you sound exactly like Peter Green.
    I am gonna switch my pickups too cause I wanna sound like Peter Green too . I can’t believe after all these years all I had to do was change pickups . thanks man .

      Best compliment ever had on here haha. Ive kept this mod and love the sound of it.
      I would say getting the pickup covers off could be harder on more wax potted pickups but onces thats done its easy to gently slide out the baragnet and flip it 180 😊

    Very cool bro. So you’ll notice that with both volumes on 10, the middle position is gonna be less loud than the neck or bridge individually. But while in the middle, both volumes on 10, if you turn the bottom volume down just a tad, the volume will actually increase. Play with your volume pots, and tones as well and you’ll find an infinite amount of tones. I love it!

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад +1

      Thats what ive been doing since having loads of fun with it, i find in particular the tone controls in the middle position give you even more to play with then the volumes

      @@Paul-D yes indeed brother. Thank you for being so nice and inviting to me being new to your channel. I wish to plug in as well but I’m rural Upstate New York on top of a mountain under 2 feet of snow atm. If you feel like googling the weather here , google Schenevus NY weather. I’ve been snowblowing all day. It takes me about an hour each time and I do it every 2 hours. It’s snowing around 2 inches an hour or more. Im grateful that I haven’t lost power yet, but we’re expecting 40mph wind gusts and I think that will probably take out my electricity. So I’ve just been strumming the old girl unplugged. I think I uploaded a video of me just playing her recently but not in the middle position. I’ll have to make an out of phase video myself soon as well. Have a good night bro, and say a little prayer for me here. Thanks again.

      Haha i want it always on, in fairness theres a little more too the Peter Green thing on the real guitar, but this is close enough - for now haha.
      No worries man, its all from the heart and my opinion on them - infact i wish i did prefer the standard gibsons lol.

    @pharmerdavid1432 Год назад

    That was interesting! I saw somewhere that somebody used a push-pull pot to flip the polarity for that out of phase sound, then you still have the stock sounds too? Now that you've gone in there and flipped the magnet, how about doing a video where you replace the magnet with an AlNiCo2, 3, or 4 magnet, or maybe all three to compare? The guys at a forum swear the Duncan '59 humbucking pickup, which they don't seem to like stock, sounds much better with a different grade of AlNiCo magnet, sweeter sounding with more clarity. For hard rock sounds the A5 might work the best, but I don't like hard rock or distortion anymore - used to love it but now it makes me feel bad, getting older and now prefer pretty music that makes me feel good. Thanks Pauly!

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад +1

      Funny enough i was curious to go alnico 2 in there. It is a very modern sounding pickup.
      Chances are though ill grab a set of lollar imperials which the \V version of this guitar comes with. And ill flip the magnet in those too before there even installed haha.

  • @hughcameron
    @hughcameron Год назад +2

    Yes it was a brave move. Not silly because it worked.
    What I would emphasize is you need a really hot soldering iron. My little soldering iron couldn't shift the factory solder on the Roswell and Gibson pickups I tried it on.
    In the end I gave up and got an Epiphone Les Paul Classic which has a phase switch and coil-splitting options built in. It's a really good guitar and gets the sound I have loved since Mac's first album.
    Before I understood how PG had that quacky tone, I tried all sorts - picking real close to the bridge and stuff - never did it. But now....

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад

      Your totally right thats why i added the note saying it needs to be HOT haha - ive actually bought a soldering gun type to alongside my adjustable 40w for the next time haha.

    About to pull the trigger on this exact model for a fantastic price. Are there any negatives I should be aware of? Been craving a high end LP and the Gibson QC has been so bad for me. My Tribute looks like the fretboard filing was done with human teeth.

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад +1

      Ive been fortunate to play a few dozen eastmans now and all but one have been utterly faultless.
      If your getting this one the SB59 not the V i found replacing the stock pingwell tuners a worthy upgrade. All the V variant come with gotoh that are fine.
      But in all, go for it i love my eastman ownership experience and the few ive sold over the time have barely lost any money at all here in the UK. ALL the gibsons ive had have lost alot more lol.

    • @ManlyMcBeardFace
      @ManlyMcBeardFace Год назад

      Yeah it’s just such a great deal and no one has any negatives regarding the construction. The 59GB is listed with all Gotoh parts including the tuners. It says Gotoh SD90 tuners.

      I feel like there’s a catch but it looks like nope!

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад

      Hmmm maybe thats been updated then - i think the pingwells were a common thing for people to swap so perhaps eastman listened and now put gotoh on all of them.
      Mine came with a gotoh bridge but it definitely wasnt the gotoh tuners my T59v came with

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад

      The catch is there made in Bejing which to some people will always be a huge no, no matter how good or customshop it is.
      Usually based on some form of ethical morale grounding - usually expressed online by those people on their phones/computers made in china lol

    .
    I did the same thing to my eastman. But instead of using a soldering iron to get the pick up covered off. I would suggest using a knife like a steak knife. You can use the serrated edge to cut the solder. It is easy to do and you don't risk heating up the pickups too much and damaging it. Then I use the soldering iron to resolver the cover to the pickup.it doesn't need nearly the same amount of heat get the solder to barely reattach the cover. Good luck.

    Wow! I have been patiently waiting thru Covid to be able to travel (from HK) and get my hands on Eastman - really keen to try the SB59/v etc. Honestly, the 'Before' sounds amazing. Peter Green one of my favourite players and I recently bought the Epiphone Cantrell 'Wino' which I'm going to put Monty's Bethnal Greens into . . . not sure I would mod that Eastman, though. The modification also sounds great but the level drop on the vid is a bit distracting after the full on original sound 😀

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад +1

      the volume drop is there but its actually far far less then other 'phase mods' guitars ive played including the recent vintage PGM. Its also just as easily reversed if i ever get bored of it but i dont think i will haha. Montys sound amazing but i do think there a tad overpriced.

    Hey Pauly. Does it matter that you not only flipped the magnet, but rotaded it 180 too?

    • @Paul-D
      @Paul-D  Год назад +2

      This is a good point that i only noticed on watching back - thats what i get for filming a first time lol!
      At this point i can say it hasnt had a single negative effect…. And of course the out of phase middle has worked….
      A drawback i expected was the middle to loose alot of volume compared to the unaffected single neck or bridge - this happens on the vintage PGM for example and a few other phase mods ive tried.
      However here im not loosing anything more then you would ordinarily at all - result! Wether thats because i 180 and rotated it or not im not sure - tell yah what though, how beautifully ironic if the original tone was the result of a mishap and so is this hahaha.
      Well done for noticing!

    • @Factory_Muff
      @Factory_Muff Год назад

      @@Paul-D yeah, I noticed that too. So you’re saying you didn’t lose any volume at all in the middle? I did. But either way, it sounds great. Do start with both volumes on 10 again, and just roll off a tiny bit on either pot and see if it gets any louder.
