Funny, earlier, my wife saw the commercial for these on TV and asked if I thought you could hear the TV if you are not the one using the headphones. The commercial advertised you could get a second pair, so I have to ask if you can run more than one headphone set from one transmitter. Been looking for a way to be able to hear the TV over the dog , and over the wife yammering.

That's probably what the "Scan" buttons are for, to pair new or added headphones, I'd guess

    • @compzac
      @compzac 5 лет назад

I used to have a pair that ran off infrared that would allow for multiple users, but when i got a set of wireless non infrared models they wouldnt, hit the scan button and they would pair for one headphone but not two it makes sense as for the tech they would need more than on transmitter in order to work

Another great review, James. I have a set of Auvio wireless headphones that I've had for 4-5 years. They take 2 AA batteries (I use rechargeables). They are a tad on the heavy side for me after wearing for a couple hours. In addition to the volume control buttons, they have an e-base button. I haven't really played with that much. I have mid to high end hearing loss so they get a lot of use when I watch TV after hubby goes to bed. I'm not an audiophile, so I have no idea if they would be good for listening to music--I only use them to watch TV. Personally, I prefer the batteries over recharging--if I'm half way through a TV show and it went dead--not good. :-(

We still have the original Sega, my kids grew up playing on it before they ever got the Xbox , Wii or a PS4. At first they weren't too sure about it, and I did have to order new controllers for it (E-bay to the rescue) but they did get bored with it, because of it being old and was played a lot in it's day, most of the games were a pain to get to play - lots of taking out, shoving back in or blowing them out then shoving back in. but It still works :D

Thanks for reviewing this product. I am still a little hesitant to try this product after reading very poor reviews of the product on Amazon. The majority of the complaints were in two areas. Most complained that they simply could not get them to work with their TV, no matter what they tried. Another large group of reviewers stated that their On/Off button on the headphones broke soon after using the Headphones. Hope you have this product in an update review to see how well the quality held up.

Reached for my volume in the beginning haha. Great product if you don't want to wake others...just last week I couldn't watch tv over at my buddies house because he and his wife were still asleep. I also see this as something great for seniors who don't always want to wear a hearing aid.

I've used wireless headphones of one brand or another for quite a few years, although I've never tried any from Sharper Image. Sometimes I will connect the transmitter to a stereo, but more often than not I have the transmitter connected to the computer. It's good to have when doing housework or puttering around in the basement - I can listen to podcasts or an Internet radio station or a MLB game, etc. I'm a little skeptical of the Own Zone's claim that you can mow the grass with the headphones on - not because of the 100+ foot range of the headphones but because of the noise of the lawnmower engine drowning out the sound coming through the headphones. Good review, James!

I just saw the advertisement on TV for the Own Zone and it looks like they may have a newer model out there that has a different transmitter that may or may not have all of the exact same features that you reviewing and it also looks like they might have actually upgraded the headphones as well so based on what you bought and based on maybe some changes the companies made that might not work that well so there might be a newer model out there that you might want to check out maybe do a review on that and then compare the two

Love your reviews - I had an issue crop up with this particular product that I thought I would pass along. I bought the OwnZone Headphones a few months back. I held off on setting them up as we were in the process of buying a new TV. We just hooked up our new TV the other day & hooking up the headphones was easy using the optical port. Quality of the sound from the headphones not bad.. BUT - Power switch on the headphones was poorly designed and trouble turning on. Long story short, I got to use this unit for one day and the next day when trying to turn the power on, the switch broke and is now loose somewhere inside of the headphones. I am hoping the seller has some kind of warranty on the unit as right now the headphones are only a nice looking paperweight.

I got a pair of these new in box. They were deep in the back of a box in my garage. Shall test them. Kinda nice to have as extra headphones. How often anyone forgets to recharge their bluetooth wireless headohones? Extras are good. I kinda like that its just a 3.5mm audio jack for use with tech that predates bluetooth and hdmi, on and on. 😀Useful.
Ok, still have to actually test them out.

Yes I have used something like it. I imported Sony headphones meant for watching Blu-ray movies with DTS-HD surround sound. Like the ones you show here I can walk pretty far with them before you lose signal. You can still get them through Amazon just search for Sony MDR-HW700DS they are not cheap but they do work well especially if you like watching HD content with surround sound.

Had something like that in the late 80's but it would only trnasmit the audio from the tv. So you could set the tv volume to very low and up the volume on the headphones so you could hear the television audio without disturbing other people in your house. This seems like the next step up so you can either hear it from the headphones or hear it from the tv and the headphones.

Well from the look of it it's a RF (Radio Frequency) headphone so of course it can transmit for a long range. This thing is not really groundbreaking though since there's a lot of this kind of product on the market. The only advantage of Own Zone is that they used TV to promote their products. Also you can get RF headphones for as cheap as $30 (with lower audio quality ofc). There's also other alternative of using bluetooth transmitter and receiver. Just plug the transmitter to your TV and use the receiver on your favourite headphone. Or better, your bluetooth headphone. Bluetooth transm and rec are pretty cheap as well.

The only thing that sucks is that I use my USB input on my TV to watch content on a USB thumb drive, so you need separate power source for the Transmitter, but you can use any power source like an old phone charger .... the good thing is that it comes with an optical toslink input since most tv's made these days no longer have RCA audio outputs and if it has a 3.5mm headphone jack it kills the speaker if used....

When my girlfriend and I want to watch movies after the kids are in bed, this would be great to pair two headsets, turn the volume up on the headsets instead of trying to listen while its turned down on the tv and not wake them. I would probably get the other one you mentions for the extra bass. A simple bass controller on the headset would be nice though.

It would probably depend on the person, but being able to boost the volume in the headset would certainly help in many instances.

I have mid to high end hearing loss and use wireless headphones to watch TV and not disturb my husband after he goes to bed. Between the headphones and closed caption, I can finally enjoy watching TV again.

It would depend on the nature and severity of the hearing loss. I suffer from mild to moderate hearing loss - primarily higher frequencies. I tend to have trouble understanding speech - which sometimes sounds kind of muffled. I've been using Bluetooth headphones (usually of middling quality). They help quite a bit.

The volume is not high enough to work for my mother with hearing impairment. Very disappointed because I thought we finally got something that would help her enjoy watching TV again.

Did you try using your TV’s audio settings to increase the bass? Might have helped with the bass?

My husband got me these and they're driving him bonkers as far as hooking them up, lol. I told him to watch this video because you pointed everything out very clearly. We'll see how it goes once they charge.😂

I'd assume that most people don't use their TVs for music consumption and since these are obviously made for TV use, the mid-range focused sound signature makes sense since that's where all the vocals are going to be.

Did you notice any delay like if you were to watch someone talking close up was the persons lips out of sync while they talked?

When my Ownzone headphone quit working I contact Sharper Image at the website shown on the headphones' user manual. The response I got was that Sharper Image had gone bankrupt in 2008 and that they had no responsibility for these headphones. They could not suggest where I could call for help. The headphones and now in the trash.

My mother shares a room at her nursing home. When both their TVs are on and, of course, on different programs...whew! I think something like will save everyone an almost literal headache.

I’d say give it Bluetooth-so it can work with phones and laptops without the audio jack as well-and it’d easily be worth it. I dunno what use I’ve have for it as is, but can definitely see a use for it, particularly that idea of listening to something not-visually intensive while doing something else.

Can you hook up 2 head phones with their own transmitters to the same TV?

  • @hoytdotblohm

I would assume that the scan is because it's an FM transmitter, that would account for good range also.

What I want to see is something where you can connect one receiver to the tv but have 2-3 sets if headphones connected to watch the same TV. So if 3 peoe are sitting in the same room and want to watch a movie with headphones they can
