I know there are talented and capable pilots in every type of aircraft, and I’m sure there are plenty of examples of Pilatus pilots who’ve been having a bad day, but I have been paying attention and I’m continually amazed that PC-12 videos as a group consistently demonstrate some of the smoothest, most perfect approaches and landings I’ve ever seen. Like they’re on rails.
It is called aerodynamic braking to assist the reverse prop in stopping the plane. The surface here is hard, as was the grass airfield I trained on and we always held the stick back to assist the braking even with STOL aircraft. It also takes the weight off the nosewheel if there are small holes or bumps on the ground.
Johnson Creek (3U2) is one of 30+ backcountry airports managed and maintained by the State of Idaho and is a gem of a camping destination. Many of these strips are accessible only to proper bush planes but 3U2 (and its hot showers and hot coffee) can be accessed by a wider variety of aircraft. The PC-12's low approach speed and impressive landing gear allow it to land on other-than-pavement airstrips. Great job, Pilatus!
There was a cropdusters field up north near Copeland. We would land their sometimes. 4 seat and 6 seat Cessna's, and a few long flights with a Bellanca Citabria from Kelso, Wa. Just miles from Gramps and Grannys house, right at the Porthill turnoff, right by Mt Hall school. Copeland is North of Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry/Boundary County had a dual strip north of town(grass or asphalt). This was a long time ago. Several times we almost made Deer Jerky with ryegrass stuffing, by way of Lycoming. Don't know if those strips are still there. Henley's Aerodrome was the location of my first Open Cockpit ride in a Stearman Cropduster Bipe. Long before it was a funpark. I miss the North Kootenai Valley.
The landing lights cycle like that by themselves for better daylight recognition. When used as landing lights at night they remain solid one. At least that is how they worked in the Gulfstreams I flew.
That's ironic because a few minutes after we landed we were shown up by a coincidental arrival of a beautiful Pilatus PC-6. There's always someone cooler out there!

Best landing I think I've ever seen!
You talk about a feather touchdown!!!❤
What an excellent approach and touchdown! Great work.
Nicely done, awesome light touch. 💯🆒
What a landing! I watched the cockpit view before this. Glad you got an outside shot too sickkkkk
Perfect landing! 👏
That pilot has clearly done that type of landing many times. Wow - very impressive!!
I love the pc12. Such a useful aircraft . It can land and takeoff in some tight spots
Now that is arriving in style!
Perfect Ben ! Great video
Excellent work!
Nice soft field landing (saw that elevator back the whole time).

Don't know squat about airplanes and flying but that looked too smooth!
Who is this pilot? Thats one of the best landing ive seen.
how about some background on the Airport and on the Pilatus ? Impressed to see it landing on a grass strip.

They are actually made for gravel and dirt. Special landing gear allows it to
I am in Tasmania. Johnsons Creek is my favourite field (on my flt sim) :)
Wow! Ben I didn't know you had a RUclips channel .

Wow! Smoooth
Smooth AF
Cool paint job. Is it a military plane, looks like te same stripe as a coastguard plane just not in orange.
The Patey boys are on board
Gotta love ground effect.
Perfect landing .
Lovely aircraft! Silly question, but how does de-confliction work when this is in the pattern? Much faster than the usual aircraft that arrive there 😅
They talk to each other on the radio
They can fly less than 100 knots if need be. They fit in a pattern with other airplanes, even small ones
sweet job
now that was a purdy landing. he's done that before a time or two lol.
I love how the pilot was able to switch the lights on and off while landing the plane.

@@stevez6499 Oh ok. I guess it is a bit boring for the pilots, having to turn the lights on and off.
Delivering Hot Chocolate anywhere these days!! Buttered it!!
❤
pretty plane.
I want one 🙏🏻
Does this AC have thrust reverse?
yes

butter landing 🧈🤤
100% pure butter.

I'm not even sure at what point they touched down.....
Nice airfield for my PC-11... 😬

Not an easy task 😮
Looked like there wasn’t a breath of wind. Beautiful footage.
