Thank you for the thorough instruction! Couple of questions: What is the best cast on for socks in the round, and do I have to do 4 rows foundation before I go into ribbing?
I can't believe it's ok not to do a slip knot or something on the first one! My knots tend to not knit off properly and remain on the shaft. So... are people just putting this risky slip knot in other tutorials simply to make it stay put while they wrap the others? Wow... thanks!

I just get a large loop at either the first row or sometimes the second not the first. Not ideal! Can’t see what I am doing differently to your video so not sure why my result is different

That part is called the sinker plate.
