      I have always told people to have a list of their medications in their wallet so if a patient is conscious they can let the staff know. If they are unconscious the first responders will look for identification and hopefully find that information.

      Because Most doctors DON'T LISTEN. I'm pretty sure Dr Moran does, from the answers I've seen hIm give to folks here. But, ones I've gone to Just Don't Listen. They only hear a few words, then answer based only on what they hear, or Think they heard.
      Here is an exact example of what I mean: at 2 different ER visits, I answered questions even though I was rather short of breath, which is why I was even in there. Nebulizer had not helped relieve the asthma those two times, so I reluctantly went in.
      #1 "Do you smoke?"
      "NEVER, in all my life, have I smoked!"
      I found in my medical records later that "I had smoked all my life"!!
      #2, when asked about my activities, after being handed a DX of heart attack, which I disputed, telling them I came in with asthma precipitated by a bad cold, like I'd had the 2 times before, 2 years apart. I told them that on my better days, I can ride my bike, I hike, even on large sand dunes, and in other places that challenge me. They put into my records that "I was biking on sand dunes to challenge myself". Where on earth do those people get this nonsense??? I made medical records correct t those two errors, and others, that really mattered. And we're trusting these medical pros m to care for us?? Heaven forbid if I ever had such a severe asthma attack I couldn't even speak, or let them know I'm allergic to several drugs, because if my husband isnt with me, I'm good as gone. They don't even bother to look at the allergy section of my records, not even at my home hospital!!! My husband could at least tell them to look in there first, even though he can't remember the names of all the stuff Big Pharma has messed me up with.
      Nurses also won't listen when I tell them I'm allergic to solumedrol, (or anything else....😒🙄) They insist they have to follow drs orders. If I have a problem with it, then they will speak to the dr to see if there is anything else they can use. I have had to refuse treatment because they won't speak to the dr right then to tell them they need to look at my drug allergies in my records, Now!
      I dread ever having to go to the ER if I'm unable to speak/ or think.

    As a healthcare provider I sometimes hear patient complaints about previous providers who “didn’t even help me with…” some rather serious issue. My advice to patients is to make a special separate visit for a problem they are worried about, don’t wait for a routine annual visit. Focus on that one thing, and let your provider ask all the questions they want, there is a logical order of exploration/ tests they need to follow. And then follow through with the order of testing they want you to do. I’ve seen patients who don’t wait for the tests to be finished before switching to another provider, this can delay or even prevent a timely diagnosis.

    Typically, when I see a new doctor, I receive a stack of paperwork to fill out that covers all of the things Dr Moran went over. Some physicians have these forms available for download so they can be completed prior to the appointment, which is helpful. Pet peeve: I am NOT putting duplicate info on multiple pages. If you need my address it is on page one - go look it up. Putting my name at the top of each page is fine, but SSN, phone, email is not.
    Also, I find it incredibly frustrating when I take the time to fill out the forms, then get asked questions that are answered on the forms. "Are you taking any medications?" "It is all on the intake form." I like the idea of a 'new patient resume', but not if I am filling out forms with the same info. Half the time a nurse comes in, asks questions the forms have answered, leaves, then the doctor asks the same questions all over again.
    Finally, it would be helpful if the "to do" activities for the patient were simply provided on a printed form at the conclusion of the visit. Much better than notes - straight from the source. As everything typically goes into a computer anyway, this shouldn't be a big ask. I have seen some providers furnish documents like this.

    • @wendywilson1736
      @wendywilson1736 2 года назад +2

      I agree, the duplication is RIDICULOUS!!!!

    • @bms9144
      @bms9144 2 года назад +2

      @@wendywilson1736 Worse, at some offices, they key the info into the computer, then shred the forms. Most places don't even seem to care that you left the duplicate fields blank, as they have keyed them in already. But they will let you sit there and hand write it in four or five times, then not even glance at it. SMH.
      I had one front office person 'mention' that I had some blank fields one time. I told her the info was already completed on page 1. She then said I had to have all the forms filled in. I told her to feel free and copy it over if that is what she needed, but I wasn't going to do it. Not sure if she did it or not, but I didn't. And of course the doctor didn't bother to read the forms and asked the questions anyway...

      @MedicinewithDrMoran  2 года назад +1

      That's a great comment and is one of the other "mistakes" that I have in my script for how people can optimize their doctor's visit. I just picked the top 3 that I thought for this particular video but at some point will release a video on the other points. If you're going to record the visit please ask the doctor first. Patients often ask me and I always say yes, but I think it's respectful to always ask the physician Or other healthcare worker..

    I took my 4 page medical history with me to my first visit with my new GP in 2019.
    He declined to look at it ....and stated that he prefers to TALK with his patients about their MH.
    He did spend almost 2 hours talking with me.
    I spent a great deal of time updating my MH before the visit.
    I feel that doing so prepares ME for a more productive visits even if my practitioners don't embrace the information.
    I have been told that I am too focused on my health because I was prepared with my Medical History and questions that I wanted to ask during my visit.

    • @MedicinewithDrMoran

      Thanks for commenting. It is important for the doctor to review all data that patients bring and to discuss it with them at the visit. Patients can feel disenfranchised when doctors don't look at the data that they have documented and brought to their appointment (whether it be blood pressure readings, glucose values, their medical history etc.).

    I'm thinking of documenting health records for my kids, but there's so much to document and they come in different forms. I'm not sure there's a proper way of determining what to keep and what to throw away. Should xrays be kept? That's a big piece to keep. The exercise is overwhelming to think about that I haven't started it.

    • @bms9144
      @bms9144 2 года назад

      @PattyZig I have noticed that most physicians really don't know much about supplements, and generally don't like them. I suspect this is because of the variability of the concentration of the active ingredients between brands, but even with lots of the same brand sometimes. They will generally try to ignore them, or in some cases (e.g. surgeries) have you stop taking them completely, at least on a temporary basis.

      Insist on it. If they wore a mask, I don't know what the problem would be. My husband could possibly have save my life from over medicating, erroneous medicating, over ordering invasive tests that aren't really going to help me, especially when they weren't related to what I had gone in for that time. I really believe they try to order extra tests just because we have good insurance. It's not good medicine to order tests just to order tests.

    Digitalization in Germany: "With the electronic patient file (ePA), insured persons always have their health in view. Doctor's letters, findings, and even maternity and vaccination records are stored securely in one place. Thanks to the ePA, doctors in particular can quickly gain a good overview of their health. The insured always retain full control over their data. They alone decide which documents they want to make available to whom."
