Octane is a great engine, but it scares me that it's free, I feel a catch. If Octane for Blender one day becomes paid, will you continue to use it or go back to Cycles? What are the chances of that happening?

It's not totally free. Some few features are only available for the paid option. Also, the free edition is a couple of versions behind the paid one.
