      @@nellevw2950 Hi Nelle.Thanks for that, i'd completely forgotten i'd written this. As i've since done my own research, and know Eddie's contribution to the Seattle scene.
      And correct me if i'm wrong, but as far as i know, Eddie's first moment on record was doing backup for temple of the dog? As Andy Wood had only just recently passed at that time..
      And re-reading Mains Main's origonal post, i think i may possibly have been asking about Eddie, purely coming from a commentary perspective, as the origonal post said about Eddie being all serious in interviews, and i think my first reply was asking that being so new to the scene would that impact in how seriously Eddie took his interviews at that time.....

    • @nellevw2950
      @nellevw2950 4 года назад +7

      oldsoul one You’re welcome ! I don’t have a huge knowledge, but now that you talk about this, Temple of the Dog’s self titled album was released before Ten, so you’re absolutely right.
      And yeah, I think Eddie took the interviews pretty seriously at first because he is very shy and he was new, next to big Seattle bands.
      I hope I didn’t annoy you too much with my reply. It’s nice to talk to another grunge fan !

      @ianmason2003 4 года назад +4

      Nelle VW no Pearl Jam and soundgarden released their albums in September of 91, the second soundgarden album.
      Eddie is trepid because he wasn’t from Seattle, he was learning from layne, Chris and the other bands. He was submissive as he should have been. But if that interview happened in 95 it would have been different.

When he died it brought back all the memories of Andy, Kurt, Hoon, Jeff Buckley .. Layne who went away in the 90's died in 2002 for Layne Staley to me it's like he died twice ! Then Chris Cornell was with us for such a long time compared to all the others ! It hit like a ton of bricks ! We still have Eddie Vedder ! The last man standing from that era ! What was interesting about the Seattle grunge scene was Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains all seemed to be best friends. Then there was Nirvana. They seemed to be on an island. These guys (especially Chris and the Soundgarden dudes) spend just about every one of their old interviews completely mocking the entire thing and leaving the poor reporter floundering for something to say, all the while highlighting the superficiality of it all. Hilarious.

    • @roguenation
      @roguenation 7 лет назад +10

      These guys were the voice of an overly-ironic, apathetic, insecure, often annoying generation.

    • @JakeBowenTV
      @JakeBowenTV 7 лет назад +29

      That's painting with a pretty broad brush there, roguenation. I don't think they were apathetic so much as they felt unable to right the wrongs they saw in the world and were frustrated by that (perceived?) powerlessness. And as far as the music goes, that generation's musicians were arguably some of the most authentic in history.
      What era did you come up in, if I may ask?

    • @roguenation
      @roguenation 7 лет назад +3

      Ironic living is a first-world problem. For the relatively well educated and financially secure, irony functions as a kind of credit card you never have to pay back. In other words, the hipster can frivolously invest in sham social capital without ever paying back one sincere dime. They don’t own anything they possess.
      Sorry, but the '90s were, in hindsight, one long vapid and vacuous
      decade of irony. Grunge was laced with irony (hair metal bands that
      traded in spandex for flannel were suddenly considered sincere); the
      show of the decade, _Seinfeld,_ was a show "about nothing" and 100%
      ironic; the most popular movies were soaking in irony, from _Clueless_ and _Pulp Fiction,_ to _The Blair Witch Project_ and _Titanic_ (yes, the Titanic...the ship sinks and the characters don't!); you even had a spokesperson Alanis Morissette sing a generational anthem "Ironic" that completely misused the term in every single part of the song, which one could argue is a form of irony too, but it wasn't intentional (as Ed Byrne said "The only ironic thing about that song is it's called 'Ironic'").

    • @JakeBowenTV
      @JakeBowenTV 7 лет назад +11

      Which decade(s), if any, do you think were worthy and meaningful by your standards?

    • @roguenation
      @roguenation 7 лет назад +5

      Your skewed European perspective is not relevant or useful here.
      I can vividly recall the cool, detached posturing of American
      teenagers, particularly middle-class Caucasians, in the '90s. To be vulnerable or authentic, to be sincere, was death in those days. They actively did not care. The archetype was the slacker who slouched
      through life in plaid flannel, alone in his room, misunderstood. And
      when they were bored with not caring, they were vaguely angry and
      melancholic, eating anti-depressants like they were candy. It signaled a deep aversion to risk. As a function of fear and pre-emptive shame, ironic living bespeaks cultural numbness, resignation and defeat.
      Members of Generation Y, or Millennials may choose to continue this hiding behind the ironic mantle, but this choice equals a surrender to commercial and political entities more than happy to act as parents for a self-infantilizing citizenry.

      I think it makes sense, his singing seemed to transcend the normal boundaries of place and time, it came from somewhere else! Maybe from the edge of a black hole! Amazing singer and person, thanks for the comment!

    I bought the fanzine from this gig. I still have the pics hanging on my music room walls. There are some really good Mother Love Bone and Nirvana pics too. Even one of Tad. One of the Mother Love Bone pics is where they are sitting in front of the 'in the last days, you will defile your idols...' wall.
    That one is probably my favorite.

      Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip said that when Nirvana opened for them, they left as soon as they finishrd their set and left. So did a lot of the fans. Gord liked hanging out with, bands who played shows with them. Nirvana would have nothing to do with them. Gord was not very impressed with them as people. "They were assholes, they played, and they left." He later said "You don't need an anvil to fall on your head to know that heroin is a one-way street."

      Kurt was isolated, and almost friendless. He had pals who would buy him guns and ammunition. In many bands they took care of each other. Chris took care of other bands. Does anyone know if Chris ever got to know Kurt?

      I don't agree..nirvana was the best. There's a reason why Kurt was king. His music was simple but deadly..and catchy and in ur face. Nirvana changed the musical landscape compared to the other bands. Just my opinion.

    • @ixishadesixi5101
      @ixishadesixi5101 5 лет назад +7
