One date night, my Dad asked me to check on a cow on my way home (2 am curfew). I did what he asked, saw feet, got the cow in our maternity shed, pulled the calf and went home. Morning milking, and Dad couldn't find the cow. He didn't look in the shed until he heard her move around. I wasn't going to wake him up, and knew he wouldn't see a note. 😂😂
April seems like an appropriate name.
I always checked on my cows when they were about to calve! Even when I was headed to Church, check the cow! One time I was all dressed for Church and went to check a cow, she was calving, off came my coat, rolled up my sleeves, had my good white shirt, then afterwards, woops, sorry about the white shirt Honey!! Every night before i went to bed, go out and check the cows, push up the hay, divide it up and good night!
Indeed in our family Dad, my brother and I would take turns checking out our "mothers to be"
Same way we live here on our farm. Why is old friend of mine told me one time if you're going to have cattle and do it right you're going to live with them
Buttercup since she was yellow at first!
Since Mason done such a good job with that calf's birth, I'd name her "Maison".
It's always amazing how quickly calves are able to get up and mobile if they get their first milk and get off to a good start. Looks like your family has no shortage of job security in the daily routine!!!
Name her Galina. That is my wifes name - author of the book titled Galina's Hope - Beyond the Fire. She lost all ger children on one tragic day. God brought her through and now her story inspires those who have experienced great tragedy and loss! Blessings, you have a great farm!
This is the best. Dr. Mason job well done…..THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE… Congratulations Gieroks 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Nothing better than baby calf’s on the farm
I've always liked the name Fern. This is the time of year that the ferns are really starting to come up in the woodlands. It's a sure sign of Spring. Thank you for sharing your day on the farm. Please stay safe, and God bless.
Miss Daisey!!!
It is nice to see the cat and chickens supervising the moving of the calves. Maybe you could name the new calf, "Springtime" as it is a nice spring day. Blessings to you.
Gee,you guy's are as good as Doc. Pol. Really a nice calf!! Thanks 😊.
It's always nice to see you working with the cows. After all that's what its about! I think Frida would be a good name for the new calf.
Love the cat and chicken co-stars.
Great job Mason.
Dakota, after my daughter in law ( not to say she's a heifer 😂 ) she was born in April as well. Besides she's got the state of Ohio on the forehead 😊 . Great video Aaron, keep em coming.

Beautiful calf and nice heifer that had her. Y'all do a great job with your cattle. Thanks for sharing the video.
Masey!
Name suggestion: Tinker Bell
Well done gentlemen! The name Sally May came to mind. All the best!
I didn't grow up on a farm, but I was in 4H and raised Holstein show calves. I worked on dairy farms right up through high school and through the first few years of college. Then I went on to a career in banking and healthcare, but looking back my best memories are of farming (cattle, crops, etc.). Nothing beats the family farming way of life. Thanks for sharing these videos with us, I can relive some of the happiest days of my life through you guys. God bless you all.
How bout Daisy or with it being spring call her Daffodil, usually one of the first flowers of spring. 🤔😊👍
Tulip?
You should consider making silage bags instead of those piles. It would be a lot faster for use unloading, and a lot nicer to feed out of.
Lucky Lucy seems like a good name
Darlyne i have a granddaughter named Darlyne i think she would love it
Nice video Aaron
I always look at the cows in the night when calving at least once and sometimes twice , as that calf is small then i would say Tiny would be a good name perhaps
I don"t know why, but BlueBell comes to mind for her name.
Spring is a good name
Always love seeing cute calfs sure makes it a great day....
Dr Mason sure wears a lot of hats.
Always love calving. Zoey is always a good heifer name..
That first poop is called myconium, and you are correct that it happens sometimes when the calf is in the birth canal, usually means the birthing process took a while. You often see it on new born lambs who were slow to be born due to coming backwards or being mixed up with another lamb. Good you were there to give the heifer a hand. My Dad always did the night checks here as he was often up in the night anyway. Many a time he took a trip to the barn while the rest of us were blissfully unaware!
Matilda or Beatrice
My 2yr old said Oreo lol she LOVES your videos! She gets SO excited to see the "cow cow" lol
That calf looks like a Gertrude or Gert. Great video

my grandpa and grandma started milkingreg. holsteins in the 1920s and then my dad and two brothers and my self grew the herd to 120 and sold them in 2005. if we did not have those cows we would not be were we are today.
good looking baby calf.
The farm I work on we thaw out colostrum and feed the calf as soon as possible it takes 30 minutes to thaw out 3L for jersey and 4L for Holsteins the total protein score and we feed calves 3 times a day 3L
We like Maddy for the new heifer calf

How bout ""Lulu"" for the name.. Question? I've been watching a couple of other farming channels also. Their cows are also calving , I've noticed that some farmers when they have to help the cows with the birth, use different methods. One guy uses this long poll thing thats fits over the cow and has what looks like a ratchet that has some kind of straps tied around the calf feet that they put under tension as the calf is born. Another guys uses short chains with handles to pull on the calf as it comes out. Looked like you tied some kind rope around your calves legs to pull. My question is,, does that hurt the calves legs, can't you cut off the blood circulation doing that? I mean I suppose its been done that way forever or else you all wouldn't do it, but is there a risk to the calf? at all...
Name her April ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
