Incredibly happy with how I played this set-- and even happier that my practice prior to Apex paid off. Shoutouts to Hungrybox for letting me have my moment and waiting for the handshake after I popped off
YOU ARE THE MAN!!
dog u my favorite player
what a boss
Kevin Toy Dude was that a jump from the edge at like 1:13?
Say what you will about his playstyle or his popoffs or whatever but Hbox is honestly one of the best sports when he loses
a must-watch for every marth main in the world
Pll
And now Zains run at Shine 2018
Ehh nah this marth is lame.
@@JavierPwns Welp when you're playing against puff that's kinda the smartest way to be, especially for Marth. Imagine constantly approaching a character capable of consistently getting 0-deaths off one mistake in neutral on their opponent's end.
@@ToshiRolls PPU > Zain, easily.
apex 2015 was THE marth tournament
As much as i love Hbox, PPU deserved this win, he played incredibly amazing. He earned that pop off.
Agreed
I'm an HBox lover so a sad day for us PPU played amazing, well deserved indeed.
Woah, what are the chances, the only 2 HBox fans in the world, come together to comment on a video. *Screenshot*
Tylor Maxwell +1
Unreal to watch this all these years later and see the future of this MU being defined real-time while Scar & Toph chronicle it.
When Toph says 'Yo' at 12:21 it syncs up with prog perfectly
+LocksmithMusicUK LOL holy shit u have some good eye sight
He's reading Prog's line from the MIOM script.
12:16 "Careless forward smashes will be WOAHHH HE GETS THAT TIPPERED FORWARD SMASH!!!!!"
Yeah but that wasn't careless that was guarunteed
PewPewU must have trained for days to perfect pivot. That's something I've never seen before.
Right? I had heard of the forward throw into perfect pivot, but down throw?
This young man has given me new hope for marth vs puff as a marth main.
Arashi Kariudo You both need to check the kadano threads. Plenty of marths are doing this.
Kadano threads yo.
Arashi Kariudo THIS MA BABY BENNY 4 BENZEEEEE, BIG SHOUTOUT
Damn it Wendell lol
PPU walked so Zain could run
or PewPewU walked so Kodorin could sprint
God the commentary on this set is so prime
TophScar commentary is back
8:35 "How did he stop?" and then ppu made a video on it
"I did not think there were Marths that really practiced that."
Shoutouts to Arc, been doing this stuff since God knows when lol...
Pewpew did a really good job. Even though I think Hungrybox wasn't playing as good as he usually plays, I think part of it was due to Pewpew's ability to hinder Hbox's ability to crouch into rest or crouch into an up A or grab into rest.
Hbox didn't have as much options as he usually does against most players. M2K could learn a thing or two from Pewpew.
great job to both players.
pewpews movement was amazing to watch.
Cloud Underscore and yet some people will ignore the amazing play by pewpew due to being hbox fanboys. Hbox is my personal favorite since I also main Jig, but I'd be an idiot to discredit pewpews amazing play and counter abilities.
SheepNoNeedForSleep Dang, fair objective analysis. What a sight for sore eyes lol.
No need to john for someone who's regarded a top 5 smash player
Why would you discredit someone who played well by saying such things
Cloud Underscore kevin was good. but other kevin's marth was even better.
its because hbox was sitting.
The set I've been waiting for the most.
Respect to Hbox for playing pretty amazing and for taking his loss like a champ, great to see Kevin succeed at this one.
Never in my life have I seen Marth versus Jigglypuff played so well on Marth's side. Incredibly inspiring to say the least.
lmfao I put the video speed on 0.5 to watch that pivot smash and Toph and Scars commentary turned into the funniest drunk sounding commentary ever
it's crazy that just last year, pivot fsmash was fringe technology and now it's something all the top Marths do. THis game is always getting better.
Those back throws pivot fsmash tippers were UNREAL
D-throw.
Brandon Hatfield
True.
I love this match! Pewpewu's movement is insane! The neutral was great! and Scar and Toph's commentary was gold, one of my favorite matches to watch for sure.
Finally, this video is up
been waiting for this. Those pivots, my god.
The pivot f-smash is so sick. I remember talking to my friend about pivot f-smash out of grab about a month before Apex, wondering why NO Marths use it, and he didn't see the usefulness in practicing it. And then came PewPewU. Inspiration.
Sick set by Kevin Toy! What was Toph about to say about him "kinda" beating Mango?
That was the perfect ending to this set. The set is 1-1, it's all down to Game 3. First kill with the down throw pivot fsmash. Toph and Scar talks about how precise it is to hit as you have to read your opponent's DI to pull it off. PPU stars with a lead, but Hungrybox brings it back and takes the set to last stock. Scar says: "The rest piece is back on the board; the card has appeared. Careless forward smashes will be..." BOOM. DOWN-THROW PIVOT FSMASH. The practiced technical setup to end the set, fulfilling Scar's prophecy. Game!
Such a pleasure watching Ktoy conquer this Match up.
This is secretly the best set ever.
My first upset I watched live, very iconic
12:26 reminds me of the supa hot fire freestyle reaction face lmaooo
Damn PewPewU is hella improving. But it sucks he had to play PPMD at both Apex and Evo leaving him right out of top 8 with 9th place.
He was actually disqualified
Allmywhat umm...no he wasn't he lost to KK in losers and got 9th. You must be referring to teams where he and sfat got DQ'd and as a result had to start from losers bracket where they eventually lost to Leffen and ice after they(pewfat) were up 2-0.
strawhats100 Then where's that video? I was on twitter during the tournament and he said he was disqualified for a miscommunication with the TO's. He went to take a shower and missed his match. He moped for like half an hour over it.
Allmywhat no he lost to KK in losers. That match was on a different stream
Allmywhat Search Thom Zang: PewPewU vs KirbyKaze
I wonder why Sakurai doesn't make a separate game for competitiveness. They could use Melee's engine and add more characters, stages, etc
It would be an expensive undergoing but I would love to see that. Also Sakurai does not like the competitive scene unfortunately
+mewchimew Nintendo tried quite hard to keep Melee from ever becoming an ESport.
+mewchimew From Nintendo's perspective, why would they ever do this?
Melee is a hard game, and the average person finds it to be very frustrating - though these are for the same reasons that it makes a competitive game. As a company with shareholders who care about the bottom line, spending money for a game that is unlikely to sell well is a waste.
But us smashers don't care about that
he would probably ruin it. melee as it is has a unique magic that can never be replicated
those pivot tipper Fsmashes were gawdlike
This tourney was so anime for pewpew
I miss these days
"No di" it was tipper on puff what would di even do
Who else here after shine?
I was tripping really hard watching this and "mike haze" sounded like "my kids" and I thought I was watching a totally different type of video for a minute, really destroyed my omniverse for a moment there
Wtf
Kevin's movement was so beautiful in this set
1 word to describe melee. Opportunity.
Should've watched this before playing Hungrybox on Netplay today xD.
PPU just keeps out-reading H-box, seeing those crouches coming and keeping up the pressure.
That last pivot tipper to get the win was disgusting. #Throwback
So m2k could go marth vs hbox?
Best set of Apex.
his pivots are fucking amazing
What's funny is this highly improbable win had a huge impact on PP winning the tourney. Not sure he would've been able to beat Hbox with how his Falco was playing.
Has Hunbgrybox ever lost to another Marth on stream before? Besides SmashG0d on netplay of course.
if you beat hbox while he's sitting it doesn't count, sorry kevin
Feels good man
the f-smash in 12:17 was a pivot ?
yes
That pound hitbox 1:34
The games don't go to 3?
+Sam Darby Only finals are best of 5. This was best of 3.
back here again after the Zain HBox SSC grands, for the OG
crazy how this set singlehandedly changed the marth puff MU
@@lezzeiit should have but it took years for anyone to repeat this
gano con marth, que dificil...
2:24 short hop down air, what are you doing bro? Cmon PewPewU.
dat empty pivot wavedash jump cancel grab
Thank you Pewpewu for shutting up all Marth mains who cry, and make excuses about Jiggz.
12:26 LMAO
Zain's beta form
people just love to see Juan lose. they always talk about how good the competitor is doing and people are cheer the opposition
not trying to say that pewpewu isnt playing amazingly, just something ive noticed over the years. doesnt make sense to me. its never "wow hbox is playing so good!"
u can make that argument for other sets maybe but wtf u talking about here. Pewpewu came with new incredibly hard tech and beat a god of the game. obv ppl r gonna b excited for him accomplishing that!
If Mew2King sticked to Marth instead of also playing Fox & Shiekh, I bet he could have beaten Mango more in his puff prime, and HungryBox with Marth.
After watching this, I think M2K should just play Marth against Puff from now on. He already did well against Hbox at Smash The Record
YO Kevin is the king of pivot fsmash, C'mon Toph! Lol
that would b Arc, however ktoy validated it's usage against a top level player that has a history of absolutely abusing marths
My impressions of PewPewU were of an ok Marth, nothing special, but he definitely stepped it up this match. I'm looking forward to future matches.
PPU has been the best Marth solo main for a while now, 3rd Marth in the world behind PPMD and M2K
Pandaphilophobe That's the thing, I wasn't really that impressed when guys like PP and m2k are around, but that's bad on my part.
+Borikuaedu3991 PPU is the most technical/flashy Marth, moreso than PP and m2k. His fundamentals are just a step behind.
GO PEWPEWU!
wtf CLEAN pivot
small nitpick...3:15 ppu could've close that stock out with an up OoS
upb*...to punish the pound
PPU is soo good
sicko mode
I feel like hbox would win in a bo5, much easier to play this matchup from the jiggs side compared to the perfect spacing and patience needed from marth.
Bay Area reppin
sets like this make me wonder why m2k (whos probably the best marth) opts for fox against hungrybox. marth has such a great counter to jig's bs hitboxes with his own more bs hitboxes lol.
fox is better against puff. as close as this was, if you look at what is happening nowadays with hbox vs marths, fox has a better shot due to his up throw up air and up smash
it's melee.
technically speaking fox is just simply better. and you know m2k always gotta go for the "best" option even if it might not actually be the best
arguably best marth, but id argue PPMD is better in every mu except vs spacies
the kill setups that pewpewu did are near impossible. two of his kills were pivot f-smashes which are one frame inputs, and it's just simply easier when any one of foxes moves could kill jigglypuff.
Fuck yeah PPU
Idk why everyone is so amazed by pivot fsmashes.
Sooo u can do them too?
marvelakajka Yes..?
TheCookieCrusader It's probably more because PewPewU out spaced the spacing master with tippers almost every time
It's a one frame input
Press 1 if you feel bad for Hungrybox.
Nope, that PewPewU baebee
Hungrybox still outplaced pewpewu and had a great loser's run. I don't feel bad.
Man as much as I love Hungrybox, PewPewU totally deserved this win. He played beautifully.
Press 2 to give props to PPU.
+wizardgeno 2
I'm so glad PewPewU won, the way Hbox plays Jiggly is so lame and frustrating.
Agreed
That's not true though.
I wouldn't say it's lame, but it's definitely boring.
Kempes SFA Drymango I don't know, I have to side with Jim Morrison considering that that's really an opinion. Like, you can't say that's right or wrong really.
I actually find the way he plays puff to be more aggro than people believe. If she didn't get knocked halfway across the stage from a tap and had any sort of fall speed her matches would end way faster the way he plays.
Regardless, it's a different style of melee that I also love seeing now, because I understand what the players are doing. When I didn't I hated Samus, Peach, and Puff. I still don't like Samus besides Plup though.
GATTTTTTTTTTTT DAMMMMMMM
I miss when HBox was the worst of the gods, Melee was actually watchable back then...
8:55 scar and toph talking about how hard pivot tipper is... see zain in 2020 fools :)
This was in 2015..
Pewpew is named Kevin...Kevin is from Germ Gramps...Germ Gramps has 2 million subs...There is only one Kevin...2 plus one is 3...Can you guess?
Illuminati confirmed?
"50/50" is a really inaccurate way of describing anything in Melee just saying.
Well Mew2king has said on stream that a big part of Melee comes down to 50/50.
If you're isolating one specific situation then maybe, but realistically there are always multiple situations in Melee simultaneously. Mew2king lets his personal feelings get in the way of information, who dosen't know this by now, he probably says that to justify his loss.
Yes there are, but when you are going to break it down and explain these situations a lot of them do come down to 50/50's. M2K in no way was trying to justify any loss. It was a random stream of him just trying to teach viewers. Sure his emotions get the best of him, but in a case like this where he is just explaining his understanding of the game, I don't think that's what happened
Limiting any situation in Melee to two possibilities is false lol flat. That implies each player has one option, or one player has two, this is never the case lol. In Sheiks UpB alone she has hundreds of different possible angles for example.
Of course it seems like a 50/50 to a closed mind after all ready examining the outcome.
kids good. but that name, its just gotta go
hbox and most jiggly players are a fuckin gimmick in this high level play they are banking on a broken character that their whole fight strategy is clearly an expertise of an ssbm exploit..........just watch 2 jigglys play and you see the most mundane chicken footsies where patience out weighs skill and talent
Patience is arguably the most valuable skill in this game, they aren't mutually exclusive.
you're right because the same can't be said of fox, falco, peach, sheik, captain falcon, and the ice climbers.
Cough *Shine* Cough. JC shine gimmick cough. There's an absurd amount of mental skill/spacing/talent/reaction involved with Puff or there'd be more than 1 notable puff in the entire world (Mango/M2K aside). It's just a different talent than spacie tech.
patience is a talent in iteself. you sound like scar from 5 years ago.
You would have been the one that called mango a gimmick back in the day too. What a shame you can't even tell what talent is
GTFO HBOX OMG!!!!!!skill vs a character who doesn even need wave dashing or l canceling just a concept of understanding juggles witha crazy hit distance and a fuckin 2 hit KO combo
