  • Larry Hama talks about working on the G.I. Joe comic series at Marvel Comics, how that job came to be, what helped him shape the series, and also how he introduced the file cards to Hasbro (and how every figure after included something similar on the back of their boxes).

Huge fan of his writing to this day. The comics are no different than any other literature, to me. Specific lines of his and character arcs stick with me 35 years later. Thanks, Larry, for putting so much of yourself into these characters over the years. It remains a masterpiece of storytelling; I remember when I first got into Snake-Eyes' 'un-masking' and his emotional connection with Scarlett, and how Stormy gave him a mission as an act of love... I was blown away. Still am.

Super interesting to realize that the initiative towards representing the Joes as diverse and varied as the real US armed forces started with Hasbro but was carried forward by Larry. The spreading out the home towns thing explains why there's as many "White" southern joes as yankees too!

Those file cards are probably the main reason why I love G.I Joe to this day. The character designs were great, the box art was also great but those file cards made all the difference, specially for fans who didn`t live in America and didn`t have access to G.I Joe comics.

It's good to know that "snake eyes" was originally created for money saving

Pretty intriguing, right? Exactly what Snakes wants us all to think, regarding why he wears all black... 😂

I love how Larry deflects with humor that first SJW question about race. The girl was obviously trying to start a discussion about ‘white’ Joes.
